So, where does Rory's year rank? Based on what I saw, not in the top 15.
Well, there are at least nine greater years on that list, but one must think seriously about some of those one-major seasons. Would Vijay's 2004 trump Rory's year? Or Tiger's 1999?

How many times has anyone won 2 majors in a year?
2 majors > 9 wins in a year> any year with no major imo.

I didn't consider his Aussie win just like I didn't consider Tiger's 2009 Aussie win. To me they are very weak fields.
It may have been a weak field, but Rory beat Adam Scott, who was on fire playing the best golf of his life, coming off like 3 straight wins.

For what it's worth, there have been more two-major seasons than 8+ victory seasons.

Well said.

The idea that winning a major is harder than winning multiple non-majors doesn't make golf sense. Though statistically, winning majors is harder because you only get 4 chances a year.

a bit more than an exhibition....adam scott hasn't forgotten and he's still putting full effort into late season golf tournaments

Scott has one eye on Emirates Australian Open

21 November 2014

He might be chasing glory in Melbourne this week, but Adam Scott already has one eye firmly on Emirates Australian Open revenge.

Scott, seeking the third leg of Australian golf's triple crown last year, led until the 72nd and final hole of the Open at Royal Sydney before being over-run by Rory McIlroy.

Next week at The Australian Golf Club in Sydney, the pair, now ranked No.1 and No.2 in the world, will go head to head again.

And Scott hasn't forgotten how the Northern Irishman prevented him from winning his second national title and becoming just the second player to win the Triple Crown after wins at the Australian Masters and PGA.

"I've still got a thorn in my side about the Australian Open last year. So next week it will be fun to have another crack at that," he said with a grin.

Scott is seeking a third successive gold jacket in Melbourne this week, but he's clearly hoping it fine-tunes his game for his Sydney assault.

"I'll hopefully be in great form next week and have to deal with Rory and Jordan Spieth and all the other guys."

McIlroy, who went on to win two major championships this year, has made no secret of the boost in confidence the Stonehaven Cup game him throughout 2014 after he battled – by his lofty standards -- through much of last year.

And Scott, who himself used his 2012 Australian Masters victory as a springboard to the 2013 US Masters title, stressed the importance of late-season success as a platform from which to build next year.

The Queenslander hadn't won in 2012 untilhis Kingston Heath Masters triumph – and it was just the kick he needed.

"It was down to one of the last few events, and I had played so well that year," he said.

"We all sat there and somewhat joked, I guess, afterwards about winning the gold jacket, and then the green one's next.

"But it's amazing how much confidence you can take from a win anywhere on any circuit in the world and what that can do for you and spur you on to.

"I look at this year as exactly the same. I've played a lot of good golf this year and I think I could have got more out of it.

"But I still can with some good weeks."

Scott, acknowledging the record crowds that flocked to last year's Emirates Australian Open, said they were inspiring.

"I feel like the last four years, three or four years, there's been a lot of momentum with golf in Australia.

"I'm looking forward to playing in Sydney again."

The 2014 Emirates Australian Open will be played at The Australian Golf Club from November 27-30.

The event will be telecast for all four days on Channel 7.

Emirates Australian Open is co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour of Australasia and OneAsia.

Sure but it doesn't necessarily make the event harder.

It should also be pointed out the quality of McIlroy's non-major wins. PGA Championship is the flagship event of the European Tour and is a very strong field and also a WGC. Seconds included Tour Championship and Dubai World Championship of all the best players that season and Abu Dhabi, Dunhill Links and Honda Classic were hardly small events.

A win is a win. Those who bash the field forget that most of the time, the big name players don't win these so called "weak field events".

How many times has anyone won 2 majors in a year?

2 majors > 9 wins in a year> any year with no major imo.
Yup. Kind of like how the Superbowl winner is remembered and perhaps the Buffalo Bills that went 4 years in a row and never won. Who remembers the Bills? How often will Rory's 2014 be discussed vs whoever won 8-9 times.. If you'd ask Rory or Tiger they'd all take the 2 majors over 9 wins. 2 majors in a year - immortality. 9 wins in a year - nice job and pat on the back. Just sayin. :D

That doesn't mean winning 2 majors (in a month) is more difficult a task in terms of golf. A hot month can do it. Historically, 8+ seasons are rare for that very reason.

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Most_PGA_Tour_wins_in_a_year

Since the 70s (which to me is dawn of modern era), take a look at the numbers. It's significantly harder to win 8 times than win 2 majors.
