Two man scrambles ?

How many like to play two man scrambles?

Two of the guys in my normal group love to play them, although I usually talk them out of it.

 

I don't seem to play good or concentrate. We did get the cash off of them today, so maybe they will cool it for a while.

It's fun for a late afternoon 9 hole round but I'd rather play my own ball if we are going a full 18.

I'm the #1 or 2 in this group usually
My partner is definitely 4

The other team has a an older short game guru, but is short off the tee and drops a few shots per round off the tee.

I think they feel they have a better chance beating us in the scramble format. They are probably 80% winners historically.

We've been giving them hell recently playing four ball.
They talked us into scrambles this morning. The older players plying golds, no strokes.

We won the back/total and 2 skins.
Maybe they'll give it up for a while !

I'm starting to like 2-man better than 4 man. IME, the 2-man is more competitive, and more "golf-like" than the drunk fest which generally accompanies 4-man scrambles.

A top course in my area puts on a 2-man each year, and I've won it with HoganFan924 a couple of times. No cheating, since you're paired with your opponent.

I played a four person charity scramble this year with all kind of continuation of stroke rules and the winning team shot a 28 for 18 holes. Not 28 under, they shot 28.

At my course a member "sponsors" his own tournament. Two man scramble with an A and B player assigned on each team. Must use 3 drives and 3 approaches for each player per nine. A lot of strategy involved. it is one of the scrambles that is the most fun.

Cheating in a 2-man scramble is just as hard as cheating in singles, four ball, alt shot, et cetera. I've never caught someone cheating in a 2-man scramble.

I'm with you on this one Larry, 2-man's are the way to go. Because you can have two seperate teams on each hole, but only four players, you can minimize (greatly) the cheating, and keep the time fairly reasonable.

Just don't let buddy teams play together.

I love 2-man scrambles...you have to stay focused and there is a lot more strategy to it than a 4 man scramble.

I played in my 1st 2 man scramble earlier this year and had a lot of fun. I really don't like 4 man scrambles because of all the cheating, the only thing that is good is that the money goes to a good cause.

The club I am in just had a 2-man scramble. Really enjoyed the format. Each golfer has to use 4 tee shots on each 9. Next month we are doing 2-.man scramble on the front 9 and 2 man best ball on the back.

A lot of the 2-man events I play in are scramble the first day then fourball the 2nd. I'd rather just play fourball both days but I get why they do it.

Played in a 2-man scramble today and have a question ...... a older player in our group on the other 2-man team decided he was going to walk today and he also s a very deliberate type of player. Needless to say we were waiting on him for a good portion of the day and finished 40 minutes behind the groups in front of us.

 

Both teams in the 4some got penalized 2 strokes. Per club secretary it is our job to keep the other team on pace, just as when a PGA group gets put on the clock. We never were put "on the clock" and we did finish in about 4:30. Yeah the older guy really slowed us up, but also the group in fron of us had 4 low single digit players that play fast as well.

 

In your opinion, who if anyone deserves the 2-stroke penalty? This is a pretty casual mens club and if have to police the guys I play with, it is going to take some of the fun out of playing. Thoughts?

I do prefer 2 man scrambles or best balls. A local club holds an 18 hole alternate shot tournament which is a good change of pace.
