Can anyone tell me why Goat Hill Park is so beloved? I've seen a few videos on the course and it just looks like a rundown executive course? What am I missing?

as for why it gets the mainstream coverage i think Mikeki nailed it for the most part. being local i play it quite a bit and for me personally its just a very different vibe than really anywhere else ive ever played. Its an interesting layout and for the price the conditions are appropriate. it genuinely just feels casual and a place to just have fun without a lot of the kind of "snobbery" for lack of a better word that it can feel like at times at a lot of courses. And for how much it is like that i think a lot of purists would argue that the result would be a complete lack of order and decorum but for the most part everyone self regulates and even thoguh you get a lot of newcomers to the game and surfer-bro/younger demographic golfer i havent run into any real issues, at the very least no more than you would get at any course. Its the only course where my girlfriend who very casually dabbles in golf will actually ask me to go play there because she just feels comfortable and we get to bring our dog who loves to walk 9 holes with us. I completely understand and acknowledge it isnt going to be everyones cup of tea and as much as i like going i wouldnt want it to be my regular every weekend course but it just breaks the mold of a contemporary golf course.

It is fun, interesting, blue-collar, and loved by Tour pros like Dean Wilson, Charley Hoffman, and Geoff Ogilvy. It sits on a valuable piece of ocean view property that was undoubtably destined for some commercial development that would obliterate yet another accessible golf course until it was saved by Ashworth with help from Hoffman, Wilson, Bill Murray, and Kelly Slater. It has history, tradition, a burgeoning caddie training program, and the Mandatory Golf Friday skins game. It is inexpensive and amazing. And the greens don’t suck.

It is literally a farm with greens, and it has quirky elevations. My son had a junior tournament there, and it's the first time I've ever... ever, considered turning around and going home.

It's basically the dive bar of golf courses.

It’s the vibe. Very laid back, no snobbery as the previous poster mentioned. The conditions are rough, but the greens are respectable. But you know that going in because your green fees match your expectations. What you get, though, is a great golf experience. So many options off the tee. That’s the beauty of it. Crazy elevation changes and for a short course, the greens are difficult to hit. They don’t call it Goats Hill by accident. Hard to describe but all skill levels can find something promising playing here.

Because it’s so laid back, you just feel welcome here. Everyone. Anyone. Anytime. Their dress code is come as you are, as long as you don’t show up naked, you can play. Seriously it’s wear whatever you want. Completely opposite of the private club experience, which is quite refreshing. Don’t get me wrong though. I do love me some high prick...er.. private golf, but when I want to slum it, I love slummin it at Goat Hill. You will too. OSide ?

Played it last month for the first time. Gotta hit the right shots or else you're screwed. Great little golf course with some crazy elevation changes. Come for the golf and stay for the vibe. It's a great place that could easily get more folks into the game if other courses took on a similar, more relaxed approach to golf.
