Good course near Fairhaven, MA?

So my son and I are headed down to Titleist's Manchester Lane facility in a few weeks. It will be an AM appointment so was thinking we could try and play somewhere local in the afternoon. Note it's a Monday so assuming most privates are closed.

 

Any recommendations?

Agree Poquoy is the best choice.

 

A little out of your way, but Atlantic CC is another favorite down in that general area.

Nope. But they do have a tent out back! :lol:

 

Poquoy Brook & ACR are your better "local" bets. And as others said, if you're up for a drive, head out to either Crosswinds or either of the Pinehills courses.

Allendale CC would be my recommendation in the area and it is in outstanding condition right now. However, Acushnet River Valley is less than two miles up the road from Manchester Lane so it would make more sense to go there.

Allendale CC would be my recommendation in the area and it is in outstanding condition right now. However, Acushnet River Valley is less than two miles up the road from Manchester Lane so it would make more sense to go there.

 

I like Allendale a lot but my son has already played it a few times in tourneys - trying to find him somewhere new to play. Shame it's a Monday as I would have liked to get him on Bay Club or LeBaronHills

 

Right now I think it's a toss up between ARV or Pinehills Nicklaus. Will see what tee times are available...

Not sure if you've played either Pinehills course? Although I score better on Nicklaus I feel Jones is superior course

Yeah he has already played Jones so will likely do Nicklaus - I do agree that Pinehills Jones is a much better course than the Nicklaus. I also think that Waverly Oaks is better than both of them but always seem to be in the minority on that :)

I would say Pinehills for quality and condition and ARV for convenience.

Thanks to all who responded with recommendations and comments.

 

For some reason Pinehills and ARV on-line systems were not showing tee-times today and I could not get a response on the phone. So booked Poquoy Brook. It's super convenient to get back on 495 or 24 afterwards and from what I remember it's a solid course (apart from the tee shot on 2 ugh).

 

I'll post back here after we play and let you know how the fitting and the round at PB went.

Monday's at pinehills almost always has tournaments and charity outings. Last Monday was one and this Monday is the andruzzi charity outing.

So played Porquoy today. It was only $75 for me AND my son with a cart so I guess it's really, really good value and the round was fast - 3:45 despite getting a bit bogged down on the back 9. And the weather was great.... but...I in absolute terms less than impressed with layout and the condition was iffy. The greens were healthy, smooth and cut but ran about 8.0 to 8.5 tops. On many holes just off the fairway the "rough" was basically dry mud/dirt.

 

Yeah I know - spoiled private club, half glass empty guy here :)

 

I'll post separately on my son's Titleist fitting at Manchester Lane, That was an awesome experience...

Well yes...thought that my post did kind of suggest I was being a little spoilt and overly critical..but I'd wager that there has not been any grass in many of these areas for quite some time, mild winter or not. The fairways and greens were veey healthy. Played on the Cape the day before and saw no sign of drought or dry conditions there.

The cape on average gets "more" water (they retain a higher average). Fog, rain, humidity, etc... and is currently average for rain. Inland, as soon as you get off the cape, as tmfool said, we're down a few inches from average right now.

A few inches is being generous. My lawn says otherwise - at this point it's more like 6 or 7 inches below
