Beer on the course just to enjoy the day?

I had this in mind for a while. There may be an obvious answer to this, but I thought to ask since I know some who would rather not drink on the course.

 

Since I used to play quite a few tourneys in the past, I didn't drink on the course. But since I'm basically done with that (due to trying to finish up school the past couple years, and will be done by late July- early August depending on the online courses), I don't really care much about and will drink on a fun day on the course. I'm not talking about downing a six or twelve pack in a single round, I'm simply just talking about drinking a beer or two just to relax and enjoy the day.

 

Like I said, possible obvious answer, but what's your take?

I drink a 12 pack or so on the golf course per round.

I rarely drink on the course but I'm not opposed to it. Met an older guy carrying his bag on the first tee last year. By old I mean about 65-70 years old. He played ok. We get to the 12th tee and he asks me if I want a beer. Ok, I say. He grabs a couple beers out of his bag. I ask if they're cold. He's like, yeah! and pulls out a bag of ice from his bag. I'm shocked. You carried that the whole front 9?! Good times!

Same boat as you, I'm pretty much done with tournament golf, so I play to enjoy the game, not grind non stop. Couple beers and a few dollars on the line is perfect for me now.

Why do people talk about a six pack on the course like its a big deal? If you get drunk off 6 beers in 4 hours of being active in the sun, I think you may be allergic to alcohol. Yes I drink on the course. Beer and whiskey

When I play I always hope to get better but I play to have fun as well. Beer is fun. Golf with beer and friends is really fun. For those who say you dont need beer to have fun.... your right.... but it helps! That being said, I have a tremendous respect for those who don't drink for whatever reason.

This is now retired and is at my desk at work. When I first started, golf and drinking were one in the same pretty much. Once I started to realize that I had some potential to get a little better at the game, I stopped drinking like that. I stopped drinking and playing all together for quite a while up until league nights this year. The rounds are slow, we walk, and it's getting hot so I'll generally have one a side with no effect on my game. Honestly helps me when the game is shaky and I'm frustrated in match play when I'm playing poorly.

 

Honestly, I don't really get any extra enjoyment out of it, outside of the fact that I just like beer. Playing drunk is a thing of the past for the most part. Besides our company tournament. All the drinks are free all day and we all have a pretty dang good time.

I'm not playing competitive or tournament golf, so it's not that I'm taking the game seriously. Instead, it's because my meager game deserts me completely if I drink when I play.

2-3 beers is certified aiming fluid.

 

But if I go to 4+ on a hot day it sometimes starts to hurt my game. Have to also drink water and snack.

I drink the higher abv stuff usually, so one to a side is enough for me. I'm new and still shoot around 95-100 so it's hard to tell if it screwed up my game...

Saturday early morning round is followed by a cocktail at the clubhouse. Weekend or off day round with the buddies, couple of drinks on the course.

 

Drinking on the course is the same rule as anywhere else, drink as much as you would like without turning into an a-hole.
