Colorado WRX 2017

Good luck Ryan! It's rough out there with the heat. I walked 18 yesterday in 95 degrees and I was pretty worn out by the end.

Highlight of my weekend: pitching it in from 85 yards, over water, for eagle.

bKvH4V9.jpg

One hop a couple feet in front of the hole, then spun back into it. I think the random group I was paired up with was more excited than I was. Had 2 birdies plus the eagle on my card, and still ended up with a 77 (+5) for the day.

Day 1 of the tournament complete -- unfortunately not as well as he would have liked and one of the worst overall rounds he has shot in a long time! :( -- yikes. Even with decent shots and not horrible ballstriking, just got some nasty breaks and unfortunate shots, and not great putts. It's a tight, tight course -- and the heat was blistering here today. About 100 degrees and 40-50% humidity today. However, on the bright side -- today was the tightest course by far and he can be a little more wayward on tee shots with the other courses.

Will let everyone know how the next days go!

So I'm trying to schedule my first round of match play, and the guy I'm supposed to play isn't available on any of the upcoming weekends, just during the week. It seems pretty ridiculous to sign up for something if you're going to make it increasingly difficult to schedule a match when all of our 18-hole events are on weekends. He suggested splitting our match up after work on weekdays, but I'm not thrilled with this suggestion. It's a nightmare for me to get to the course after work, not to mention being stressed and rushed to get there, which would likely impact my game. And I'd have to do this twice, perhaps more if our typical afternoon storms roll in. Am I out of line for being upset at this?

Not at all. I would be upset as well. What's the time frame for the completion of the match? What's the ruling if the match cant' be played?

We have to have it complete by 8/13. He is gone this weekend, then we have our 2-day club championship the following weekend, and then he leaves town on the 8th through the 16th. And I'm not sure what the ruling is. I have a call into our pro to discuss it.

despite taking 2nd in our match play last year, I also had this issue which is why I decided not to participate this year. It's just too difficult to schedule with some people. I think our decider if it can't be completed in time is a coin flip.

Where was this?

Saddleback Golf Course up in Firestone. It's a real fun course. Has an island par 3 as well. That hole I posted is a drivable par 4, with it being all carry over water. But even from the gold tees, it was only 230 to the front edge of the green. I played safe and laid up in the fairway, and was definitely rewarded.

Not ideal, but you could pair up and play during the club championship. Otherwise, winner is typically determined by coin flip.

I thought about doing it at the club championship. I'm not a huge fan though because I have slightly different approach/strategy to them both. If it comes down to that, then so be it. I don't want to leave fate to a coin flip.

I run our match play and the scheduling is always tough. Then I'm so enthralled with the Ryder cup that I decided to run two match plays this year; individual and four-ball brackets.

Hard to get four guys schedules lined up but we're making it work. So far no forfeits or coin flips; we've had 3 or 4 weeks to get each round completed - that has helped some.

Yeah that's a tough one. I think the idea of splitting it up is terrible.

I can understand both sides as I usually don't have too many weekends without tournaments and work M-F 7-4.

Luckily some plans fell through last weekend and we were able to get it in Saturday morning. Unfortunately I had to give up 5 pops and the guy didn't miss a green or make a bogey and was -2 when the match was over. I didn't play very well either but I also haven't shot under 67 at CO National anyway so I didn't have a chance.

Why is it that a mid-week lunchtime range session always goes so well? You just know I won't hit the ball like that when it counts on Saturday.

Exactly why I don't bother with the range much any more. I've found I manage my rounds a little better when I find out what swing I brought the day of, and just work with what I've got.

Therein is also why I'll never get any better than where I am now.

Yeah I hear ya. But I play early on Saturday and will likely not have time to hit balls.

Really I wanted to try to figure out what putter to use for league....and my answer is sadly going to have to be "both". I was hoping that I could just settle on one but I still can't lag putt worth a damn with my counter balanced putter and I have no confidence on the short ones with my DJ putter....so I am going to just play a round with 2 putters....Yup, I have officially become "that guy" :(

The wife is out of town today through Friday. She headed up to Telluride with two of her girlfriends from school for a fun trip before school starts back up.

So, fellow CO WRXer's, I ask you this. If I just happen to go into the PGA SS, and just happen to demo the new Ping G400, and just by chance order a new driver... she can't be mad. Right? I mean it's only fair...

Mad? She'd only be mad if you DON'T buy the driver.

So we have a brand new member in our men's league playing in my flight that is "that guy." I will tell you one thing though, you're not quite "that guy" unless one of them is left handed....

Yes, believe it.

Hopefully it doesn't turn out the normal way. All the new members in our flight "mysteriously" find their handicap go up to a 5.1. Maybe it's playing from the blacks in ours (7400) vs. the golds in the 2nd (6900).

That's all I got, freakin love it.

My father had gotten the yips so bad he switched to a left handed putter and now he putts great. For me it's simply a lack of distance control with the the heavier CB putter. Anything over 25 feet and I might as well be putting a bowling ball with a sledgehammer.

I've been lurking in this thread all summer but I finally wanted to chime in with a question.

I'd like to get out and play a few more tracks around town. What do you guys think are the best value courses within about an hour of the metro area? Not necessarily the cheapest places to play but the best bang for the buck.

I'm a high handicap so I find it hard to justify expensive greens fees when I'm spraying the ball everywhere but I do like playing nice courses.

Hmm, that's a pretty good question. For me, I'd throw out there:

GVR

Murphy Creek

South Suburban

Fox Hollow

Riverdale Dunes (have yet to play it, but I've heard a ton of good things)

And maybe Todd Creek and Heritage Eagle Bend (I haven't played HEB in awhile, but remember enjoying the course)

Edit: They're all reasonably priced. You can pretty much get on all of those courses for under $70 with a cart. Tomorrow, we're playing Riverdale Dunes at $38 plus cart, I think.

Riverdale is the best bargain near Denver.

Riverdale Dunes is definitely one of the best deals around. I played there for the first time last month and loved it. Great layout and fantastic greens.

Knolls is less money also.

but the Dunes is so much nicer. it's a great place for 36 in a day though.

True, but to a high caper, Knolls is a good course and a better bargain. It seems to be just as busy as the Dunes.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'll put those on the list.

I've played The Dunes once quite a long time ago but I think I was too new to the game to appreciate it.
