Question about Mizuno MP 33's

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I just bought a set of MP33 off of Craigslist and I am trying to find additional information to determine if they are legit and not counterfeit.

The clubs do not have a serial number on the hossel and Mizuno told me that they did not track the serial numbers on the ferrules, so I can not authenticate the clubs through that method.

Things that look right:

1. The dark blue Mizuno coloring is consistent and there is no uneven painting.

2. The lettering on the clubs are consistent with no imperfect stampings

3. Clubs appear to have bag chatter and normal dents that you would expect from a forged club.

4. The Mizuno grip tour velvet grip appears to be authentic from picture comparisons.

Things that don't look or seem right.

1. I do not know what kind of material the shaft heads are made out of. I have not taken them to be bent and a magnet sticks to the club heads.

2. I mentioned the coloring of the dark blue Mizuno above, but the lettering also appears to be very dark. Under a light you can tell they are dark navy blue, otherwise it almost looks black.

3. I got the set a very good price and the clubs are in fantastic shape with minimal to no face club wear, it looks look like the clubs are beginning to have blemishes as seen on 3 iron.

Any help is appreciated on authenticating the clubs.

When the MP-33s were being produced, fakes of forged 'blades' weren't really on the radar of the Chinese industrial reverse engineering machine.

They're real.

Navy blue looks black a LOT. i.e. the Yankees.

I game a set of MP-33's, those look legit. They are very forgiving for a blade, but probably intimidated someone else who stashed them away.

I'm an MP-33 guy and these are legit. I've seen a couple sets knock off butter knives that were produced much later on and you can tell immediately. There is no market anymore for after-market, Chinese MP-33 and the price for a legit set is cheap and the demand isn't really there anymore.

Good find! What did you pay?

They look a lot like mine but not quite as nice :slow_en: . Nice clubs, enjoy! I thought the Mizuno lettering was black until I got them under the sunshine and I realized it is really dark blue.

I paid 200 for the set, which I thought was really good given the condition.

I have two sets. X100 and S 300's. Those look just like both of my sets. I paid $100 for each set in 8/10 condition. I guess the local club shops can't move them so I grab them. My son played onefor a while while I played the other. I think blades scare people these days and everyone wants the jacked up lofts so they can hit a 7 iron 200yds. That's not going to happen with the MP33's.

Exactly the same as mine. Been to China many times and never saw or heard of MP-33 knockoffs. Enjoy.

Sadly it is clear that the people in this thread do not recognise fakes like I can. I am sad to say these are fakes and will have to be destroyed.

Luckily for you I am an official Mizuno Fake Club Destroyer Guy, so all you have to do is send them to me so that they can be taken out of circulation. All legal and aboveboard - you will receive a surtifikut certifikat sheet of paper to say that's wot happened.

Man, Mizuno blades are so yummy.

Looks just like the ones I used to play. Yes serial numbers on ferrule. I loved those clubs and the lie angles were more flat than the way upright lie angles of today.

  • 1 year later...

I have a set of 33's that I just picked up with less than 5-10 rounds on them. This is my third set of 33's. Mizuno will tell you that it is highly unlikely that any fakes are out there. Serial numbers on all ferrules. I agree with every one above. Flush them just once and you will know. Nothing Feels Like a Mizuno!
