Is Stack and Tilt still a thing?

Just wondering as it's not really talked about much now.

I tried to dabble years ago but because I've never had access to coach using this system I could not continue using just the book and dvds.

I did hit some really nice shots using the method that I've not been able to hit any other time but as already said I just couldn't get the coaching I needed.

I'm Auckland, New Zealand fir reference.

I'd love to hear from any points view regarding this but not really interested in people wishing to troll.

Really seems to have died out. I think a lot of pros have moved on.

I don't think its that they moved on, its that they are no longer on Tour anymore.

Walter: Tell me Bobby, why do you play this game?
Bobby: I play because I love it.
Walter: Well I play for the money. I have to win. That is why every time we face each other I will always beat you.

To be honest I'm still quite interested in this.

If there was a coach in Auckland, NZ I would be there.

It is intriguing how little is now mentioned as I've not really been golfing much over last few years (family and money etc) so not been looking for info.

However I did find a guy on YouTube who is still uploading if anyone is interested https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCoskRiKxy06HM5kXxhNiQ1w

I'd recommend finding something less extreme. The method uses extreme shallowing methods to compensate for extreme steepness of the strike. It's packaged and advertised in a way that makes it seem like it gets rid of compensation and promotes consistent contact, but it's simply not. Seems logical that a forward body position will encourage ball first contact, right? Except for most, it encourages dumping the angle early to hit it fat.

If you like the idea of stack and tilt, work on a backswing that has less shift and more turn, not tilt toward the target. That tilt move is the devil.

Do you have any recommendations of the type of swing/method you mention. You are correct in one of the things with S+T I liked is remaining over the ball rather than the randomness of moving away.

I have the SnT DVD, and it's quite good at outlining the swing. Must be lots of used copies out there somewhere :)

The person who benefits the most from an approach like this is the person who sways laterally in their backswing.

The SnT motion is educational for your golf knowledge but is a bit on the extreme end of things ... probably not worth taking up unless you find a great instructor to help you alot.

However I did find a guy on YouTube who is still uploading if anyone is interested https://m.youtube.co...y06HM5kXxhNiQ1w

I was watching the video ... and he was talking about the "left shoulder down".

I get the feeling the better way to address "left shoulder down" is "right hip back and up".

Certainly the hips control the swing more than the shoulders .... why ? They have advantage of being closer to the ground. The swing happens from the ground up *ON MANY LEVELS*.

gWRXers who hear people talking about "shoulder this" / "shoulder that" should think first about how some key hip movements could accomplish what they want ... not the shoulders per se.

Hope that makes sense.

I think when the hips are moving correctly ... the shoulders are easy to fix after that. or that proper hip motion will correct shoulder faults in many cases.

The shoulders don't control the hips. The hips (the pelvis .... and the torso) control the shoulders. Realistically the shoulders are just passive things perched on top of the hips, torso machine that dictates the show.

Boom.

Thanks for this alternate description and it does make sense.

Did you check the website?

You could also go to the public Stack and Tilt page on Facebook.

Off hand I don't know of any instructors in New Zealand...

Most USA and Europe right now...

I will check but I think my reason for failure is because of not having a one on one lesson which appears not possible here.

And on a side note I have also been disappointed with the lessons I have tried to take independently from NZ coaches , all three were quick to tell me of back injuries that can be caused by s&t method which I'm quite sure is wrong.

The slander is never ending...

It appears so, as I've said I like the info they've given out and it makes sense but can't get any coaching for it which is disappointing.

Makes me wish I still lived in UK and at least I could still get the coaching I want.

Ironically one of the coaches (from the leading golf school here) was trying to get me to make a move I just couldn't do and informed I would need extensive physio to get the mobility required. I could hit the positions I needed in s&t without the physio work.......

I'll move to NZ....and teach you any swing you need to play better.

Lol, just seen this.

I appreciate all replies so far and different options provided.

From my perspective for learning from a written/video format you can only go so far and you do still really need a one on one with a coach which unfortunately I will not get here in NZ as from my experience s&t is dismissed as a genuine coaching option.

As I've said Im only really just starting to get back into golf on hopefully a more regular basis after basically playing a couple of times in last few years. And for me the information s&t have out there is the easiest to pick up and if you need more detail that is there also.
