Is Stack and Tilt still a thing?

Seems like a modified S&T could be good for many. Don't hear much about it anymore though, Mike Bennett probably made enough to retire and doesn't care much about the negative talk. I have heard he is a great ball striker.

I have decided to go back to S&T. I purchased the book when it first came out and at the time played some of my best golf ever using it. I slowly began to get diminished results and there were no local teachers at the time to help me trouble shoot it so I went back to my old swing. Was clearing out some closets a few weeks back and came a cross the book and re-read it and it just seemed to hit home with me again. This time I was able to find an S&T certified teacher and just took my first lesson last week. I have been pleased with the results after the lesson and 3 more practice sessions. Ballstriking is definitely better and I have some very specific things to work on from the lesson which was missing in my 1st go round. Hoping to get in 1 more practice this week and take it to the course to see how I do.

This does seem to be one of the issues. The irons have minimal loss if done correctly but I too have struggled to see comparable distances with this model. I have read and studied the setup, which by teaching for the driver is more tilt moving the center back and staying behind the ball at least until impact. I like the consistency but have struggled with the distance, which is one of the 3 core fundamentals "have enough power to play the course." I have found this to be the one fundamental that I struggle with in the model. I do think this model helps a lot of golfers.

3 weeks into my return to S&T and I am progressing nicely. Definitely having lessons with a certified S&T instructor has helped me focus in on specific aspects that have gotten results. My shot cone has tightened up (no hooks last round just draws and pushes so I effectively took the left side out of play). The driver has gotten better each round as I get better at sliding/tilting more for the driver. Still not seeing my old distances (15 yards less) with the driver or irons (1/2 club) but I am swinging very easy and focusing on contact and shape. Once I am finally confident I think the speed and distance will come back big time and I will surpass my old numbers. Yesterday I played boring golf for the first time in a long time (1 birdie, 12 pars, 5 bogeys. No penalties or lost balls). Hoping to improve on my boredom and break it up with some more birdie excitement.

I used a self made version of S&T and I've gone from a 14.5 to 8.5 in 1 season. I don't do the weight forward, hands forward at address but I use the hands inwards and hinge upward approach while keeping my head my still, consciously trying to keep my weight forward with a clearing and upthrust of the left hip to completion. Consistent 5-10 yard draw and ball flight on a good day. On a bad day my misses are far less than my previous bad day which was shank it all over the damn place. My bad days it seems I try to trap the ball with stiff arms and no hinge rather than swing through it freely. Get the basics, play around with it, see what works and doesn't work for you and tweak it to some thing that pleases you. Then go from there and work on different ball positions, sequences with the body, hands set up, stance etc.

Instead of worrying so much about weight left and being titled they should of put all the emphasis on straightening the back leg in the backswing which will accomplish those goals without leading to so many exaggerations.

Couldn't agree more. Weight forward at address made me so inconsistent. Once I rid that I was off and running.

As for the distance loss claims I can see where that's coming from. I'm not as long (say 5-7 yards) but I'd rather be much more consistent. I'll sacrifice a little distance for better ball striking and scoring. Plus I'm a high ball hitter. So I strengthened the lofts to make my 5 essentially a 4 iron and added a wedge on the top end while shortening my club lengths based off a 37.5" 5 iron. Viola!!! Distances back to normal for my mental sake.

I never looked into with great detail but from what I have seen it's great from pw to 8 irons if your flexible and hyper strong as it makes you stay left sided indefinitely and hit down through it,however unless you can clear out it's a terrible method for most,or all golfers.

I would look into it a bit more...The swing is actually better for those that are not extremely flexible or strong. I have never been a long hitter regardless of method but I am just as long with my woods using S&T and I am 1 club longer with my irons and way more consistent. You only need 45 degrees of shoulder turn the rest is accomplished through hip turn. The arms swinging inside nature of the swing uses angular momentum to create adequate speed (think soccer style field goal kicker vs. the old toe style kickers) and when you consistently make solid ball first contact in the center of the club and produce a nice push draw then you will have adequate distance. Also clearing out as you call it throws the club outside in the model creating a weak left to right ball flight. S&T focuses on more lateral movement in the downswing. S&T is a solid method to play consistent golf. Here is my advice. Buy the book. Read it several times. Find a good S&T instructor to help you get started and properly diagnose what your doing right and what needs to be tweaked. If you can't find a reputable certified S&T instructor then get a good player to stand behind you after you explain what the proper ball flights are using the book (believe me most folks can't read a proper ball flight on their own) and use what they see to follow the fixes in the book for your ball flight. Most people who tried S&T went wrong because they couldn't properly diagnose their issue and used the wrong fixes(me included). What works in the traditional swing usually does not for S&T. I made this mistake several years ago. I bought the book and tried the method. I played solid golf out of the gate and recorded my best ever round at that time...a 73 just the the third time out using S&T!!! I started really working at it (probably more obsessing) on my own and it went south and I gave up on it. I reopened the book about 6 months ago and after refamiliarizing myself with it (read it 3 times) went to a local instructor who properly diagnosed my issues and got me back on track and I am pretty committed to the method at this point. I am playing very boring golf...now if I could just putt :)

What's the opinion on this video posted on the YouTube channel I linked earlier in the thread.

It's three drills which it appears to me to be quite good?

Interesting that this guy does equipment reviews as he is a PGA Pro who works for American Golf here in the UK.

His striking and control of the ball is actually hard too beat. Certainly doesn't miss a fairway by 20 yards as some reviewers seem to do.

They came to the UK around 5 years back and I did a whole day with them.

As a ball striker, the demo he did that day was unbeatable. A 6 iron that he could hit every time to exactly where he said with a flight pattern as nominated.

I had a great day, but found my left knee that was awaiting surgery couldn't keep up with the demand required.

Nick is a solid S&T instructor and really shows how simple and repeatable the S&T move is when you commit to it and have a good set of eyes guiding you (he learned from Bennett and Plummer). If you pick a method swing (S&T, A-Swing, Rotary Golf, One Plane Swing...etc.) you need to invest some time and money in an instructor certified in that method to assess your move and provide feedback. If you go at it alone your chances of giving up on the method will be high and you will post to forums how the method is not good...yada, yada, yada. I tried S&T alone and gave up on it. I came back to it along with an instructor to get me started and I have had much more success.
