Did anyone change the stock true temper s 200 to a kbs 610? Im considering the 610 ot something in the 110-115 gram to follow the weight of my iron shaft. How did it change the ball flight?

Just changed from DGs200's to 115 modus wedge shafts in my 54-S and 58-M. (Play the 105s in my irons). Could not be happier with the performance of this shaft.

First round with my 58.10 S w/ CTaper 120.

Didn't have many full shots, but noticed I was catching the ball high on the face. Just need some work with it!

I need a new 54 degree wedge and am torn with what grind to get.

I know on full shots the S is supposed to be better while the M is better around the greens. In your opinion, what would be the problem with using the M on full shots and likewise, what would I be giving up by using the S around the greens?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I've been playing 120g 610s for the past year. They lowered ball flight by around 10-12 feet on average compared to the KBS Tour shafts I had been using. It's not an earth shattering amount, but it's a nice tweak. Spin was cut a small amount, too.

I am with you on the M grind. It was fine for me on 1/2 swing and more... But I couldn't do anything with it while chipping and pitching. It just doesn't fit my game apparently.

I didn't find a difference. I was still hitting the wedges the distances I wanted, just with a slightly improved ball flight.

I was surprised to read in Martin Hopley's (Golfalot.com) interview with Bob Vokey that the man himself recommended:

- F on Sand Wedges

- K on Lob Wedges

I would've thought conventional wisdom was:

- S on Sand

- L or M on Lob

Based on this interview, "many tour guys" play those higher ones, even though they're playing higher effective bounce off of extremely tight lies. When you look in the second-hand market, the F and K combos on those wedges are hard to find.

According to the Vokey web site, here are the grinds used by some of the Titleist tour players:

Adam Scott: F, S, K

Dufner: F, F, K

Spieth: F, F, S, L

Walker: F, M, L

Hoffman: F, F, F, K

Justin Thomas: F, F, F, K

Haas: S, S

DeLaet: F, M, K

Poulter: F, F, M

Jaidee: F, S, M

Streb: F, M, V

Malnati: F, F, K

Of course most of those sets start out "F, F" with the pitching and gap wedges which are typically only available (at retail at least) in F grind. But plenty of the M, S and K with only a few L.

I am with you on the M grind. It was fine for me on 1/2 swing and more... But I couldn't do anything with it while chipping and pitching. It just doesn't fit my game apparently.

So then what's the best grind for you around the greens?

I have a L grind on my 58* which I use mostly for shorter chips/pitches or pitches which need to carry further/higher. Really easy for me to open the face on and I really like the grind paired with low bounce for those delicate shots off firm turf (which we have an abundance of in Phoenix).

I have an F grind in my 54* with high bounce. I like this grind for pitching. It's great on those 1/2 swings or 1/4 swing pitch shots. I also use this wedge in the bunker, unless I have little room to work with. I like the way it kind of 'bounces' off of the sand. I rarely open the face on the 54*, although I have messed around with it on the short range and ultimately had no issues doing it. But I use the 54* for more or less square face chips and pitches where I don't have to worry about controlling trajectory (i.e. I have room for a shot to roll out, or take a hard bounce and spin, depending on the shot I want to play).

My 50* gap wedge is an F grind. This wedge is used mostly for full swing or 3/4 or more swing. With an occasional pitch if I need to keep something lower or want it to roll more.

The M Grind I just always struggled with on delicate shots. For whatever reason, for me, I would 'flub' a lot of delicate shots with the M grind wedges. I always felt like I had to be overly aggressive with the swing to avoid chunking it. whenever I would try to do anything delicate with it, I felt like I had to nip the ball perfect or the ground would just break away and the ball would go nowhere. I also hated the way the club felt with an open face. I found myself digging the heel of the club into the ground and ultimately either blading it or having it come off the turf like a normal trajectory pitch. With that said, I did think the M grind was the most consistent out of the sand.

during my fitting I also used the K and S grind. I believe I liked the K grind as well but can't remember all of the details. I think the S grind didn't really work for me. The L was the grind I picked up and it was like a magic stick for me. I was going after pitch shots aggressive, I was going really delicate, hitting flops hard and soft, far and short, started messing with it out of the bunker and it was really performing well for me. I will stipulate, good wedge play for me is a bit of a relative term. It was good for me... that's not saying a lot. I may be the worst wedge player from inside 40 yards whom holds a 4-5 index on this earth.

one of the things i have noticed with my 60 K grind (12) is the better control i have on very short pitch shots around the green. the ball just pops up and sits down soft.

one of the problems i always noticed with my old M grind and the L grind was what was mentioned by SilverBulletts above. Hard to control - more noticeably on shorter shots. I too felt i had to swing aggressively to avoid stabbing it - and frequently hit it too hard.

this is why i want to change my 56 m grind. Im just not consistent with it either full or in the sand. I prefer the s grind. What i would like is a 54 or a 56 in a kgrind. Is there a lot of difference between the f and the k?

If you know how to use the bounce properly, it's almost like cheating. The club just slides along the ground. With the K-grind and medium to firm conditions you can hit as much as two inches behind the ball and still come out with a decent result. The ball won't spin as much or carry as far but it runs out more so the result is similar to one struck perfectly. You can't hit it in the teeth and get a good result but then that is the case with any wedge no matter the grind or the bounce. The K-grind is also excellent out of deep green side rough.

C-rad; The M grind is a versatile grind - but the effect of the grind and its multiple areas of relief is to reduce bounce. I went from a 54 degree M grind to a 54 degree S grind and have been overall much happier. I have the 54 degree bent to 55.

skraly; i definitely agree. i have played golf for a long time and never tried high bounce wedges. honestly i am loving my K grind with 12 more and more every day. what i can't believe is just how slow you can swing and the ball just pops up and sits down easy.

i have two option at the moment. I must keep my 52.12 and 58.10s and try to make a setup with it. So i could buy a wedge of 48. After i would have my pw at 46, a 48 to 49, 52 to 53 and my 58. Or my pw46, then the 52 to 51, my 58 to 57, and add a 60 k grind. Thoughts?

I LOVE my 52* Square Engage w/ CTaper 120S. Just perfect.

I hated my 58* Square/Toe/Dual Engages...just couldn't do anything. I had started playing different shots with my 52* and was doing magic.

I only have one round under the belt with the 58S Vokey, however I like it so far. I'll probably pick up a high bounce K Grind as well.

Did anyone change the stock true temper s 200 to a kbs 610? Im considering the 610 ot something in the 110-115 gram to follow the weight of my iron shaft. How did it change the ball flight?

I gamed the 610 S+ in my MD3's last year. They work as advertised, flighted and slightly lower spin throughout, especially on full swings. Great shafts if you see yourself hitting a lot of 3/4 or close to full wedges. Touch shots were ok, but they shined from >60y

I only have one round under the belt with the 58S Vokey, however I like it so far. I'll probably pick up a high bounce K Grind as well.

so you will play a 58s and a 60k?

No, I'll probably pick up a 58K.12 and see which one is better. I have not had the opportunity to play a high bounce K anywhere on green grass, so I had to make a judgement call since I had played an S in-hand for a full round.

Did anyone bought a k grind and add sole grind. Made some research and vokey release a kgrind "dufner" edition and the sole has some trailing edge and heel relief. Would love to try something like this. Looks to be the perfect grind.
