Solo Vacation Spot - What Say You?

poops

Recommended Posts

The wife has given permission for me to leave her and the 8 y.o. boy home so I can have some me-time to go on vacation by myself. She knows I've been working my @$$ off the last couple of years and deserve some time alone.

I don't vacation much. Our traveling mostly involves visiting family around the US, which from my perspective is actually more tasking than anything else. So, I'm struggling with a destination.

I'm definitely looking for a warm locale, at least 70* during the day and nothing below 50* in the evenings. I obviously like to play golf. However, playing golf is not a priority nor a necessity on this trip. I'm mainly seeking a slow, sunny locale with great food, lovely outdoor spaces with quiet, peaceful, tranquility.

I'm planning for the April 13th - 18th. Any Suggestions?

H*ll... I might just get a room at a local hotel for a few days and watch tv and veg the entire time...

Local hotel and veggie time works. You and no worries and totally relaxation. Just make sure there is a pool. Gotta float. And good local delivery.

Chucktown is a big winner on the food. Too many really, really good places. Have had a townhouse there since 2012 and still keep finding great places. Beaches aren't crowded now either and April is great weather. Lots to see too, Fort Sumter, Angel Tree (almost as cool as the Banyon Tree in Lahaina), Plantations, Ghost tours, the dungeon, Bill Murray sightings (he lives on Sullivan Island and is part owner of the River Dogs and some restaurants), head out to caw caw and spot some gators, just walking downtown, shop the market and get your wife a sweetgrass basket or go out to mt pleasant and buy one off of route 17 - then stop at Cosmic dogs, .... And as I've said many times, if I was single and in my 20s I couldn't think of a better place to be.

Golf is an option too but if you want to eat then I'd try:

Swig and Swine for bbq - brisket and pork belly are great and they have single serve pies and that to die for

HomeTeam BBQ - best wings I've ever had , location in West Ashley is the best (Lewis bbq opened and is hot - guy used to work with Franklin bbq in Austin - the brisket looks killer but have yet to try it)

She crab soup - really good at Crave (mt pleasant) and have to have their mac and cheese - food coma better than Kuma's

Tattooed Moose for the duck confit club and duck fat fries.

Shrimp and grits, Poogan's Porch, eli's, hominy grill, .....

shrimp tacos at Fuel or maybe the chorizo burger

Steak with service better than any other place - Hall's Chophouse.

Husk for the fried chicken.

so many more ...

Great place to take the family too.

Sealed with a curse as sharp as a knife.  Doomed is your soul and damned is your life.
Enjoy every sandwich

Do yourself a favor. Go away for one day and play 36 holes. Then come home and tell her how much you missed them.

The brownie points alone are worth it as equity for your future screw ups.

This is the right answer. I've found that when I go on trips, either business or pleasure, I find myself missing my family after a short time.

One suggestion: go to Orlando, stay at a Marriott property near their golf institute (used to be affiliated with Nick Faldo, not sure anymore). Take a day or two and work on the game but have them down there. Let them do the park thing.

A golf school is an excellent idea. I spent a week down in HHI by myself two weeks ago for the first time in ....forever. It was kind of weird. I had a really good time but a golf school would have been a good play. A little camaraderie doesn't hurt.

The PGA is in Hilton Head that week. A little golf for you, a little PGA action and maybe some beach time. Add in a few good cigars and life is pretty good.

and at least two good fresh seafood feasts.

Vegas Vegas Vegas.

You can get a lesson at the Harmon school of golf, hang at the rhino and bet on the Cubs to repeat...

You'll be winning like Charlie Sheen

I just got back from HHI. If you're looking to truly golf and veg, that wouldn't be a bad spot at all.

It's a little difficult to get to from Chicago. Chicago-Charlotte-HHI on American or Direct into Charleston or Savannah and drive. It's probably a bigger journey than a weekend.

Very beautiful spot, great golf and good weather. Go enjoy yourself.

You can get a non-stop to Savannah from Chicago on United. It's a 45 min drive from there. You will be out of the airport inside of 30 min. You would be hard pressed to find a easier flight to any golf destination.

The drawback to that is the flights are a little pricey. They used to offer more flights but now gouge on the few they offer. Everybody offers a non stop to Orlando or Vegas. If there is a hell in the afterlife, it will look just like Orlando!!

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
