Ugh. One of the smallest purses of the year. Only 2 hours of coverage on Friday through Sunday. 'Not a lot to get excited about.

 

There's going to be a lot of pressure on Brooke to threepeat. I'm going to go with In Gee, with So Yeon a close 2nd.

This is one of those events where players will be looking to improve their standings because many of the "names" probably won't be there. That said, So Yeon will probably win it. And probably look good while doing it. HEY-O! :)

The turn out surprises me because a lot of the players say they love Portland and it's a nice course. I'll be there tomorrow but have to work Thursday. I think this tourney suffers from it's scheduling. Seems to suffer from scheduling at the end of a stretch of tourneys the girls like.

How does the scheduling effect it? The majority of the players didn't participate in the Solheim Cup, so they had 3 weeks between the British Open and the Canadian Open. The Indy event is new next week, so perhaps some players decided to give it a go, and skip Portland?

 

IMHO, the tiny purse is the biggest factor. They played for $2.25 million last week, and almost a million less this week. Indy has a $2 million purse, so if one needed a week off before heading out on the long Asian swing, it would be an easy call to skip Portland.

More opportunity for some of the struggling players. I'm a softie--I want them all to do well. Plus, Juli Inkster and Natalie Gulbis are both in the field.

Nice start by In Gee. Moriya is right on her heels. It's only a matter of time before the elder Jutanugarn snags her first win. She's been playing some seriously good golf this season.

Yani could be fighting for her tour card here. She would have lost it last year if not for her "all time T20" money status. I am not sure if she can use it again this year. Currently she is 93 on the money list.

 

Pretty unbelievable considering she is "only" 28.

I was just thinking about it being at the beginning of a long couple weeks of travel with a small purse. Still has a pretty good turnout though.

 

For those that have been to a couple LPGA events, have you noticed the Henderson sisters being kind of aloof? Not in a bad way but they just seemed to hang out together and have a good time. Not to worried about the cool girls club or anything. They were just kinda off doing their own thing and giggling and having fun.

Hey mallrat I was there today maybe I'll see you tomorrow? The stand at the 2nd green has one of the best Burgers I've ever had. And the two chicks selling beer next to them are funny as hell.

 

I'll have on new balance with green shoe laces and probably no hat. North of 200lbs.

Lexi was great. So fun to watch. Cheyenne Woods, I'm sure she got some TV time, she was super duper today.

 

Portland is a fantastic city. I'm sitting in a pub on Alberta St right now. There was this huge street fair a block from my place when I got back from the tournament. Listening to a fantastic guitar player singer who also is a comedian.

 

Some great golf out there today and the temperature was perfect. Supposed to heat up though. Ryu was not at her best but tomorrow is another day.

 

Had a nice conversation with Aditi Ashok Mum. Aditi had a great day. Jesus, Belen's brother, is on her bag. Dori Carter sighting. Na Yeon sighting. Birdie on 18th to get to -1. Na was so happy to come in one under.

 

Oh and Jason Hamilton NYC's former caddie is back in Yani's bag. Lydia fired Jason last year.

 

Never been a fan of Stacy or Gerina but they were fun to watch today and Jodi made it a fantastic group.

Brooke took a picture with a couple of three year old twin girls yesterday, can we say cutest thing ever? Yes we can.

 

Stacy was two over after three then she was -3 after 6. Wow. I love how intense she is. Of course her looking at her club for a defect after bad shot is annoying.

What got into Hee Young Park today? A nice -4 68 to put her in a tie for 10th and she'll be playing the weekend, which she hasn't done much of this year.

Hubby and I flew across the country two years ago to attend this tournament (and to see old friends from his days working for Nike in Portland). Really enjoyed it, although the traffic leaving the course was horrendous. If we decide to return to PDX, we'll definitely schedule around this event.

I'm hugely impressed by Stacy donating her winnings to Houston. Won't ever forget that. And of course it'd be a huge relief for her to get a win finally. That's another too-often mentioned anchor I'd like to see disappear.

But I really want Ai to have a great and fun last season, so a win would be awesome too.

 

On a different front, thank heavens, a made cut and good spot even for Hee Young! For the past months, every tournament she's in, I'm just hoping and begging she'll make it to the weekend. Kind of afraid to mention it and jinx it before the cut. Worried about her.

Lots of good scores out there, but Brooke, In Gee, Ai, and Jodi are off to slow starts in the opening holes. They better get it in gear, or catching the leaders on Sunday will be difficult.
