I'm not necessarily saying it's some kind of ideal way to play the shot, BTW. Just something you could try messing around with if it comes up often enough and you haven't found a go-to yet.

What about putting it?

 

From like 10 yards off the green I'm just not good at putting it that far. From a yard or two i putt all day.

 

I bet if you practiced putting from there for 20 minutes, you'd be pretty good at it.

No one putts from that far off the green, especially on surfaces that aren't Augusta national. You don't do that.

 

Also, a lot easier to putt from off the green to far pins rather than near pins.

 

Using high loft vs low loft from off the green depends on many factors. You need to have a lot of shots and recognize which is best. When I was a kid, I chipped with everything from a 5 iron to a sand wedge around the green.

I'd actually say just the opposite for short vs. long pins. On those TV greens where you're coming up a tightly mown slope to a raised green, I think putting to a short-sided pin is a completely legitimate option. For a middle or back pin, I'd rather chip/pitch for sure.

On 6o pin was kinda back middle and left. From the right of the fairway 15 yards off I hit several shots with both SW and 9 iron. The most relevant thing? I didn't get a single one to the hole. Took me a while to realize to recognize the pattern.

If there's one thing I've had enough of. . .it's "uplifting" commercials. What would we do without our multi-billion dollar corporations "serving" us and coming to our aid in our time of need? Who would be there to remind us that the real heroes are the first responders?

 

No one wanted to make a commercial with monkey eating potato chips? The tide ads were funny.

Already during the first quarter you were seeing companies run ads that have been out for months. I dont get that - seems like a giant waste of money. Still haven't seen anyone come close to Terry Tate or the Careerbuilder monkey ads. Those were one of those things that every year you waited for the new one to come out.

The Cloverfield movie ran on Netflix after the game. (unless I'm mistaken).

 

I can't remember if it was pre-game or I'm just remembering the ad during SNL, but there's a movie coming out called Annihilation with Natalie Portman.

 

It's the first book in a trilogy about a "weird anomaly" that we keep sending scientists into to study it. I think I got Rick and C.Free to read it.

 

The thing is. . it's a VERY WEIRD book. It's not obvious when you read the book that it would make a good movie, and they're promoting the movie more like it's like "Aliens" but on Earth, like horror-action.

 

The book actually feels more like a movie Terrence Malick would make. .. it's sort of dreamy, and confusing. I'm intrigued. The writer/director of Ex Machina directed it, so that's actually a good sign.

The Tathata Golf guys would have LOVED a Reavie victory, as Reavie is pretty much the lone Tathata "influenced" player. Apparently Brian Hepler has advised different pros, like Kevin Kisner, but Reavie is the only one who has actually taken full lessons there.

If I could steal one PGA player's putting stroke, it'd be his. I can't understand how he does it. It seems like the putter lifts off the ground first, and then comes straight back and through. I tried it on the putting green and really can't duplicate it.

I dont want to say Gary Woodland has wasted his talent more than most golfers I can think of. But man I was stunned to hear that he hadnt won in 5 years. Only 3 wins in ten years. I guess most guys would kill for a 3 win career but given his size/swing I couldn't believe it.

Agreed. There was a great tweet this weekend from someone that took a picture of his putting stroke at address and at impact and they looked legitimately like carbon copies of each other. Fantastic.

 

It also looked like he altered his Cameron putter - in the cavity the R was blacked out and it looked like he had made the C a G to say Game On. This could also be old news it was just the first time I'd noticed it.

Rickie's putting stroke looks like a blend of being technically perfect and letting him be totally athletic. He's short coming through. He's a little wristy which I like (and sort of because he seems to decel, which I also like). I can't putt with my hands that close together.
