First shot with the F8+:

 

 

A+ drive for me. High, beautiful flight. Maybe a 5 yard fade on it. Damn near shed a tear. Sound was a muted THWACK. Perfect. Biggest shocker: Didn’t miss ONE SINGLE DRIVE LEFT. No snap hookers either.

 

Didn’t change loft (9.5) or weights (12g forward). Hzrdus Black feels like I can just go all out at it without overpowering the shaft.

Yes, that is 5 separate ball impacts. :D I know it’s just the driving range. I know that. I know it’s the honeymoon period. I know. Damn if it didn’t feel good to FEEL GOOD tho.

 

Took the M1 out for a couple test hits to see if it was my new and improved setup... 2 good ones, one flare, and a snapping dive bomber. Trading it in ASAP. Thing is dead to me now.

 

Anyway, when you go test hit drivers this year, don’t forget about the F8+. Best blind purchase by me in years.

Anyway, it was a very instructive range sesh.

 

Three setup changes:

1. Stand taller at address

2. Choke up 1/2”

3. One swing thought: SMASH

 

I don’t do too well with the analytic side of the golf swing. Self-taught to a fault. I was having trouble conceptualizing the golf swing earlier this week because... I’ve never really known how it works. Watched a couple YouTubes, experiemented with the feel, reviewed my Monte lesson from 3 years ago, and then just tried to adjust my swing feels for a couple days. Tried the “hosel on the ball” at setup on the irons, and guess what? Not a single hosel. In fact, I was pretty close to center contact. Is this a long term fix? Who knows. Again, it felt good just to feel good.

 

We’ll see how it goes tomorrow. Gotta build up my back-to-back-to-back ball hitting stamina before next week’s Pinehurst Hive Trip.

TW is still getting by with smoke and mirrors. 8 fairways, and 7 GIRs aren't going to cut it. It's a good sign he's scoring his ball so well with where he's hitting it, but he's got to figure something out with the long game.

 

I don't know, that is how he's played like for, I don't know, ever. I agree to a point. He's gotta get a one way miss going. But, he's never been an accurate driver of the ball, and his irons and short game have always been ridiculously good. Problem is, they are just ridiculously good now, when those facets used to be quite literally the best ever.

 

I wish I had a Callaway shoe to post.

What is the deadline to register for St Paddy’s day event? I’ve gotta see how my hip feels. Got a nasty case of bursitis in it right now but hopeful to be healthy enough to take the Clic Gear out that day rather than cart. Equipment question now, how many putters is too many when you only play 10-15 times a year? I have an itch to reshaft a White Ice 6 that I’m not sure what happened to the original shaft. Could have been a rage monster, but I’m not sure.

My buddy and I got tickets in the lottery to the Monday practice round at Augusta. Pretty pumped about that. So in addition, we’re going to hit up Pinehurst for 54 holes on Easter weekend. Already have a tee time at Tobacco Road for Easter morning. Gonna call down to Pinehurst 5 days ahead of time to get tee times for our other 36 and inquire about trying to get on #2. I know that’s a 24 hour in advance thing, but there might be a decent chance since it’s usually quieter down there on Easter weekends. Fingers crossed.

Love the f8+, but the nv2kxv blue and I did not get along at all. Fortunately i had a aldila rogue silver laying around from my old fly z and that's much better, so right now it's a shootout between the m2 and the f8+.

I know another guy flying the net out there today, with his 3 wood at the tower (was downwind pretty good today). Notsohumble brag. Rogue my Word not allowed. Saw my guy, Estes. Not for a lesson, but he stopped by and said my swing is still too long and showed me where he wants me. I said I'm trying. Eventually I'll get there, but it'll be because I'm old and inflexible.

I think I've really come to like how Cobra clubs sit at the ball. Liked the looks of Domes' 3W. Like the Hyenas. I fiddled with Dome's F7 but never hit it.

 

I started talking about the Cobra driver the other day and PQ almost got mad. He was like, "Never hit a different driver than what you're hitting now". or something. He's right.

 

Or to put it in terms kids understand.

the additional beauty of cobra is that if you wait half a season, the prices floor out. F7+s (which were great - not as good as F8+ but still awesome) are moving for $110-150 right now.

 

Fly z - which i think is the most similar to the 16 m2, can be had for sub $50.

Rather than pull a FAbb and impulse buy a driver, I impulse bought a Zepp2. May even get out to the range this afternoon to try it. Heard mixed things, but mostly consistent that plane, tempo, and backswing data is okay, which is what I care about.

 

Can't recall ever reading anyone here posting about Zepp or the other similar gadgets, so we'll see
