Gents,

Did you guys go through a company to book your Pinehurst trip? Looking at going in April and would love any info you could provide! Looking at playing Tobacco, Dormie, Mid Pines and Pineneedles.

 

We've used Maples Golf the last three years and they've been great to work with. The biggest reason to use a company is they get discount tee times - if you book directly with the courses you'll pay rack.

 

drew, PM misplacedtexan83. he's got a great contact at maples. plus, it'll be a nice way of us thanking her for setting up next week's trip with a referral.

 

I'll save you from having to do that. You're welcome. I used her/maples for four years. She got me on #2 without having to deal with waiting 24 hours before as well.

It's because my driver is four years old. I obviously need to keep impulse buying new drivers until I can hit my drives over 240.

Previously was using a Taylormade R11 for a few years.

 

All of my issues are operator error.

Just a heads up, the discounts for Mid Pines and Pine Needles are like $5 off their rack rates. You get better deals with other courses. I think Longleaf (The East Potomac of Pinehurst) was something like $35. Longleaf was also designed by Dan Maples (all kinds of relation).

 

But it's still worth booking through them for lodging purposes. You certainly will never pay more than if you did it yourself.

It's possible, but I think the reason she got me on #2 was because Dan Maples had (maybe still has) a membership there, and from what I understood they can book singles as "unaccompanied guests". Maybe they'll do it for two golfers. Maybe they only did it for me since I had booked three previous trips with them. Not sure. Worth asking.

There's a guy in the NIH golf league who plays an actual wood driver. Says he loves the feel, although he's certainly giving up a lot of distance. He's not that old either, maybe my age. He's a very good golfer and has been playing that driver since high school. I think.

 

He's got Tommy Armour 845 irons, and says those are his "new" clubs. Clearly not a GolfWRX club-ho.

I think Boogs list would be more entertaining, but he does seem to have been ho'ing drivers a bit less as of late.

I basically played all of 2015 with the G30 LS, all of 2016 with the King LTD, and all of 2017 with the Epic SZ.

 

I cycle rapidly until I find something, then it lasts about a year before my ADD kicks in. Also, the less I play, the more I buy and sell crap.

 

I never thought that statement would ever be said, but 'tis true.

 

Now if we go back from since the beginning, then my driver count would be over 80+ including repeat purchases...smh.

Awesome! I don't mind traveling to play. Just haven't played much in Murrrland at all. Actually when thinking about it, I believe I've only played Lake Presidential in MD.

I picked up a Mizuno JPX 900 for a decent price on the BST a couple of weeks ago. I am a sucker for blue clubs. Haven't hit it yet and don't know if it'll come to Pinehurst with me or not. No issues with the GBB last year, just that winter was long and the JPX was so dang purdy
