also, after last week, i seriously cannot believe we didn't get one mention of how city hit his hybrid during the recap. 100% ridiculous.

Played two rounds with it so far.

 

Timbers at Troy.

T3: hit a hooky dive bomb over the slop and had 7 iron in. FW

T6: hit a decent shot down the middle. 9 iron to 20 feet.

T9: hit it off the deck after hitting the hazard right, hit that one into the hazard. Threw one down in the middle of the fairway and nutted it up near the green

 

UMD:

3 : Nice tee shot. FW. GW in.

7: Nice tee shot. FW.

9: Second shot. Nutted it.

11: Tee shot from 210. poor contact. Got up and down for par.

13: Nutted second shot right in front.

14: 205. Uphill. Upwind. Domes says, "this is a 3 wood shot. you can't get that there." I pounded it. Pin high, but didn't draw an inch. Fell into the right bunker.

15: Tee shot. Well placed. Fairway.

16. Second shot: Nutted right in front.

17. Tee shot: Missed fairway right. PW to 10 feet.

 

At some point during the round we started talking about how good the pros are from 200.

 

So, I hit a crap drive on 18. Had 196 in. Hit the hybo from the rough to about 30 feet. Very nice shot.

 

I told Q at some point, "I probably put more work into that club over the last two weeks than most guys will all year". I've held it more than my D lately. I actually think it was valuable to hit a ton of putts with it at home in order to start understanding the face.

 

I actually found a pretty interesting article written on this site from Rich Hunt about what pros carry at the top of their bag. . .made me start thinking I should replace my 4 iron, too.

In general, yes, except there's almost nowhere at TV where I want a 4W. I would go rounds without hitting it and the 3 Iron can be trusty in some spots out there. But, I still might do it.

I just think that after some more time with the hybrid, you'll find it capable of everything you ask out of your 3i, and more. Then it won't matter so much that you feel like you're keeping the 4w in the bag for only occasional use.

It's probably gone, but there was one of these in Dicks Sporting Goods in Columbia last time I was in there. Marked down, with an extra % off sticker on it. I almost bought it just because it would've been so cheap, but thought better of it.

TW is still getting by with smoke and mirrors. 8 fairways, and 7 GIRs aren't going to cut it. It's a good sign he's scoring his ball so well with where he's hitting it, but he's got to figure something out with the long game.

But, he's never been an accurate driver of the ball, and his irons and short game have always been ridiculously good. Problem is, they are just ridiculously good now, when those facets used to be quite literally the best ever.
