New Bernhard Langer WITB

So I've read a few posts asking for an updated WITB on Bernhard Langer. I found this information on a German website. No pictures, but oh well. It's dated September 25, 2017.

  • Driver: Adams SpeedLine Fast 12 LS (8,5 Degree)
  • 3 Wood: Callaway Great Big Bertha Epic (15 Degree)
  • Hybrids: Adams Idea Pro (18 and 22 Degree)
  • Irons (4 and 5): Ben Hogan Apex Forged
  • Irons (6 thru 8): Adams Idea Pro Black MB
  • Irons (9 and Pitching Wedge): TaylorMade RSi Forged
  • Wedges: TaylorMade Milled Grind (56, 60 Degree)
  • Putter: Odyssey White Hot 2-Ball (Long)
  • Ball: Titleist Pro V1

Looks like he's updated a couple of things. Enjoy.

No equipment contract that I can tell. Heck he probably likes it that way so he can game what he wants to. It's certainly paying off for him.

I know for a fact he has carried those old Hogan Apex forged 4 and 5 irons for a long long time. Those are 1999 Apex irons I think. I know I won a bet in the grill room one day on that.

On the champions tour he has always played what he wanted to even when he was on the Adams staff. Now as far as his regular PGA and European days I do not know

Lehman played one for many many years as well. Not sure what his current WITB is.

And yes, Big Stu you've got it exactly right, 1999 Hogan Apexes, which he's been playing since he was a Hogan staffer, which was three owners of the Hogan company ago. Fascinating if brief read on the design from the man who designed them: http://www.jeffsheetsgolf.com/hogan--past-projects

If I had to guess those Hogan irons are getting hard to come by. Same for the Adams irons he's gaming. He's playing irons that are close to 20 years old...

So true. That is the thing I always tell myself when I see new, shiny clubs that catch my eye.

I would think because Langer is so meticulous that he hardly ever changes clubs. It would mess with his precision and feel.

The Tom Lehman thread is an awesome read too.

I own a wood bros persimmon driver he gamed in the very late 1980s as well as a custom set of Wilson Staff tour blades 1984 model made for Langer. Will post pics later

I was going to bring that up but I could not remember who had those

Yes, new equipment looks great and all that, but I now know there are no game changers out there and what I have is just fine.

Gotta agree with you after much experimenting over the last year I am convinced and my signature bag is what is on the front line. Now of course I still play one of my numerous vintage sets at times but when the money is on the line the signature set is in play. I guess most of it could be considered antique by most WRX standards though but the wedges are 2017 models.

I went through the same thing....Earlier this year I convinced myself that I had to have a new driver and FW woods, only to find out that the grass wasn't so green with the new stuff....went right back to the ol' tried and true Adams Speedlines....

He was definitely gaming a Ping G or G400 driver this past weekend. The Turbulators and Dragonfly crown gave it away :)

Langer doesn’t change clubs often your right , but he is often testing and trying things. I had a chance 2 years ago at the constellation to tell him that I owned the driver he gamed in 1988 thru 1991, a Wood Bros 10 def Texan persimmon. At first I barely caught his attention then I described in detail and he turned his head around and looked directly at me at all how did you get that .. he was really cool to talk to especially about how much he liked the Wood Bros clubs. Eventually became the last player to win a major championship using a wooden driver a wood Bros at the 93 Masters. He tried the driver that I owned at the Los Angeles open and early 1988 he was on the driving range testing drivers and Dave wood had his toward demo which Bernhard tried ; his caddy was out in that range field and he and his caddie were exchanging sophisticated hand signals after each shot. Bernhard like the club so much he told Dave that he wanted to keep it what he did . In the late 1990s Langer caddy gave Dave the club back . Dave said it’s the best block he ever made.
