Brooks Koepka

A little perspective here regarding his final round:

With no other than Tiger Woods breathing down his neck and hearing the return of THE roars, here's what Koepka managed.

-5 on the final 12 holes

He missed two greens, one by MAYBE 6". The other was a bunker shot he almost holed.

His longest par putt on those 12 holes was 3'8"

His 2ND LONGEST par putt was 18" - This was not a guy sawing the wheel like Tiger, making brilliant birdies and even more brilliant par saves. If DJ is the emotionless "Iceman" of 80's movie fame, then Koepka was the Terminator.

The length of his birdie putts reads like a Duval or Singh Shotlink from their days as #1 and flagging it all day long: 10'6", 4'8", 7'3", bunker, 33'8", 7'6", 7'9", 11'5", 10', 6'7", 6'4", 17'1". Yeah, you are reading that right, 9/12 birdie putts from inside of 12' on the last 12 holes of a major on a Sunday.

He "could" have shot quite a bit lower if his putter had gotten even a little hot, lol.

Thanks for the final round stats DD.

Koepka is probably golf’s version of the Terminator. A lot of people aren’t going to cozy up to his version of golf.

I’ll take substance over style all day when watching the best players in the world in the most pressure~packed tournaments.

I used to say the same about a rather emotional kid back in the early 2000s. IMO it's way too early to call this kid "the Terminator". Lets see if he can win 10 or more majors.

I see the subtle(?) nod to Tiger, but he wasn't the Terminator. He was faaaarrrrr from unemotional. He was cursing himself, fist-pumping, half-slamming clubs, etc. Sure, he could dial it into the zone to make a 12' putt, but he wasn't a Terminator. Maybe Darth Vader (from the original trilogy, not the prequels!) with the highest midichlorian ever, but still with pain and emotional outbursts.

But Koepka is very much the Terminator. Much like the character didn't mind killing due to his lack of a soul, he was a robot after all, Koepka doesn't mind being in the pressure cooker of a final round lead in a major, maybe because he doesn't even like golf all that much. Substance over style. Bomb it and putt it.

And winning 10 majors isn't really feasible for anyone right now other than Spieth. He is the only one with multiple majors AND time still on his side. So 10 shouldn't be the benchmark for Koepka. He could easily end up with 6 when it's all said and done and go down as one of the greats.

Maybe he doesnt bring the same intensity to regular events, but maybe this kick starts him to a playoff push then domination in the Ryder Cup?

I got a picture with Brooks at the 2017 Memorial. He then won the US Open a month later. I attribute all of his success to meeting me. :)

Well to be honest doesn't bring intensity to any event. He gets a birdie or bogey and either way acts like he just woke up from a nap. I honestly don't think he feels nerves or emotion. Never gets tired. Never sweats. I think he could've played 36 more holes. He's a robot. When he says he's recovering from some injury he's really just getting an oil change, or recharging his arc reactor.

Did Ben Hogan bring intensity to any event?

Many seem to have forgotten or never realized, how the vast majority of really good golfers carry themselves

Given how many conduct themselves today, this should come as no surprise. ;)

Yes Hogan brought his style of intensity by going into the proverbial "bubble" ....I don't see BK being super lax or loose with his golf game....I think his focus is so keen in bigger events that he doesn't have time to let his emotions get in the way...
