I think that is Nicklaus in the Bubba photo, not Johnny Miller. CBS did a comparison of Bubba and Nicklaus a few years ago and I think that is where the photo came from.

Negative, that's Johnny Miller at Oakmont when he shot 63. At least i think, just from looking at those sweet kicks.

You're right. Found the CBS video of Jack and Bubba. Jack is wearing very different clothes and they flipped Jack to lefty instead of Bubba to righty.

I like it when the Tiger lovers come out to support their man. Say anything bad and they jump on your

Tiger might be top 5 golfer if you go by swing speed and wins but as human being he is near the bottom.

Jack is number 1 and will always be number 1.

Tiger will never will another major and I doubt he will ever win another tournament.

Ok, no comments please because I’m not listening. Tiger needs to retire and go back to trying to be a navy seal. Or play video games.

Out.

“Out?”

Did you just try and drop the mic on an internet golf forum in a thread discussing how fast someone’s golf balls go?

Impressive.

You Tiger lovers need to realize that TW might be a top 25 golfer of the last 20 years but as a human, he ranks below

Percy from Green Mile, Ellis from Die Hard

And, yes, even...

Why are people bashing on tiger as a person? Unless he's wronged any of you personally (which is possible), or know him (very possible), why care about him as a person? Just take him as he is, a once in a lifetime talent who had the reach to transcend the sport of golf bringing it into the mainstream. I just feel like the hater-are spewed in direction at today's players is robbing you of the enjoyment of today's talented players.

It's not estimating speed. It's measuring the speed, just the speed of a different part of the clubhead than the face.

I'm really not trying to argue, whether or not he's swinging at 122 or 128 doesn't really matter because either way he's at an elite level and I thought we'd never see that again. Hopefully it translates into some great golf because I miss that from him. I defer to your knowledge and I appreciate your input because I like to learn. My understanding of launch monitors and Doppler radar was different but perhaps the literature I've read has been incorrect or not as thorough.

The radar is tracking both the ball and the club. That graphic is

inaccurate and massively over simplified

Interesting How accurate is the ballspeed when not right behind the player?

Ballspeed is the easiest thing to measure. Any ball not hit dead straight doesn’t have the radar directly behind the player. There is some slight range of error in the measurement but it’s be very small. The clubdata would be much more susceptible to error

Speaking of measuring ball speed... I know GC2's are nothing compared to Trackman's but that's generally all I have access to. I have a tough time breaking 170 (168-171) on ALL GC2's but I CONSISTENTLY hit and break 180 (180-183) the few times I've hit on a Trackman. Anyone else similar?? It's annoying and I'm sick of being told how accurate the GC2's are. Maybe being outside has something to do with the increase on Trackman but not that much...

The GC2 is generally extremely accurate, and the inside/outside effect is very real for some people. I have the same issue (speeds near 170 outdoors vs a struggle to break 160 indoors) but find it's only an issue for driver and occasionally 3w. Something subconscious prevents most people from going all out at a ball when there's a net just a few yards away.

Thanks for your thoughts. Ya, I generally don't like the wall close behind me either.
