Top 3 Golf Swings on Tour Now?

Schley

Recommended Posts

Best Visually: Oosthuizen, Scott, Baads

Best Technically: DJ, Rahm, Fleetwood

Honourable Mention: Bubba, Julian Suri, Stenson

DJ and Rahm technically? Really? maybe most athletic, but there are some funky positions in those swings. Not that they don't work....just an odd choice for technically the best. My guess is DJ;s swing will break down as he ages. You have to be a super freak athlete to swing like that. Stenson is a nice pick in my opinion.

Yes sir, I believe DJ and Rahm have the best technical actions because they both superb at impact and especially through it. I think both have swings that function welll week in and week out. We haven’t heard of DJ getting any injuries yet and I can’t see him getting injured with his swing. The same goes for Rahm. Both will eventually have to maintain mobility as they age, but I can see the swings as very durable.

Well, there was that time he hurt his back lifting a jet ski...

Those three are. Nobody in their right mind would teach a golfer to copy Peete, Lietzke or Brewer.

Impact impact impact-and ball flight. Don't need pretty but this is not ugly. Perhaps you just don't like faders of the ball?

I have no issue with a fade. I would never teach somebody to copy his swing that produces a huge slice. They guy had talent! But just like Furyk, nobody would teach that swing.

It was, in a legendary way, probably the most maintenance free swing to ever play on tour at a high level.

He literally took 5-6 months off every year and showed up and nothing changed. Who wouldnt want that?

Almost everyone would like to be born with his talent.

I have separate lists for this (Not in any particular order):

Top 3 most underrated swings in golf

Charles Howell III

Luke List

Patrick Reed (People often overlook his swing, I think its very technically sound)

Swings that look weird, but just flat out work:

Jon Rahm

Ryan Moore

Jordan Spieth

Best looking swings:

Adam Scott

Louis Oosthuizen/Charl Schwartzel

Rory

Actual Top 3 swings right now (As in the ones that get the job done week to week):

Justin Thomas

Tiger Woods (Minus the driver)

Rickie Fowler

I like to look at swings from a few different perspectives:

Longevity: tend to have very good rhythm, bigger swings with more lower body engagement. They look more built to last (or has proven so in Phil's case).

Phil M

Louis O

Patrick R

Brute: As name implies, impact always has a little more oomph on these sorts of swings. Tend to be stable and relatively compact for being relatively taller/bigger, not always pretty but have a lot of consistency.

Dustin J

Jon R

Henrik S

Aesthetics: Looks pretty, usually watching them makes my own back spasm though. They are the adonis type motions and swing points that bad cookie cutter teachers post-Tiger era try to drill into students.

Rory M

Si Woo K

Hideki M

Dustin Johnson has one of the biggest shoulder turns I’ve seen, he’s got a really long swing. John r is opposite and compact

Tiger Woods (Minus the driver)

Your definition of "getting the job done week to week" is quite different from mine.

TW hasn't won in five years. In my book, that's more like "never getting the job done".

As in never getting the job done 79 times? Yes he’s been hurt, yes he hasn’t won yet since coming back(6 events in), and yes he has changed his swing a few times, and yes I kind of get what you are saying but there is no arguing 79 wins with a what 28-30% win % (exact numbers are fuzzy). You CANT and I mean CANT win 79 times with a bad swing.

Adam Scott takes top honors. I’d kill to have his swing. Just kidding.....but seriously. If you know someone that can make this happen.....

Freddy Couples is my deuce spot because it’s Freddy Couples and he’s the man! Dude has probably pulled more strange than a good majority of tour combined.

My last slot goes to a PGA, just not a tour player. Peter Finch. There’s something just beautiful and smooth about his swing.

No, "never getting the job done" as in no wins for almost five years. The thread title is about swings on tour today, not 5 - 10 years ago.

The Tiger today and the Tiger who won 79 times are different golfers.

And BTW, his career win rate is 23.9%. That's spectacular, but in the past.

he'll win again; don't doubt the BIG CAT!!!!!!!!

as far as a swing most amateurs can model after, I think brandon grace swing is as good as it gets. A simple motion most of us can practice and try to mimic.
