I don't use a 60 or a 62 for anything but a 40-50 yard... have to go straight up and down shot. So any sort of gapping is of no consequence.

Looks like no more club paks available and can't even buy the Score Lt shafts anymore?  I guess I will have to hold out for new wedge options

Got a notification that grips are going up $.50 because shipping is going to be air freight for a while. Supply chain is a complete mess.

I got that notification too. Hopefully, having the grips shipped by air gets the supply chain back in order, even at the increased price.

I made up my stash of PTM Blacks. I wanted to do something different with these and the Xcaliber Avalon i8 and i9 got the call.  i9 in the 9-GW and i8 4-8i.

If an iron could be called breathtaking this might be it. In the sun these are simply gorgeous. The Avalon i8/i9 shafts are the continuations of the TourX, Pro X shafts. (Which have been my go to shafts for years). They have a translucent red that fades to black. The metal weave is clearly visible but subtle. I paired them with the Lamkin Genesis Corded grip that has specs of red mixed with black. Combine these two with the black PTMs and its my favorite build yet.

For specs on the build I tipped the S flex shafts an extra 1/2". Making these play a bit stiffer has me hitting these shafts straighter than I ever had.

Being a steel/graphite blend they don't have that feel, or load and release feeling the Rapid Tapers do.. its more like a traditional steel shaft. But all the dampening of graphite.. exactly why these have been my favorites.

I build a test 6 iron and hit it all over the course. Like an old girlfriend who was even hotter this time around. The PTMs have always spoken for themselves with no nonsense performance but this combo just seemed to get to another level.

I can't wait to get the full set in play in a few weeks after my next tug hitch. It will be interesting putting these head to head with the Rapid Taper set. Early results are the Rapid Tapers are easier to play with half or 3/4 swings. Distance loss of the Avalon 6 iron to RT 6 iron was minimal but there.

I had my first outdoor round with these and I gotta say they were awesome. Played an elite course called Saucan Valley. Greens were lightning fast and rock hard. So unfortunately some perfectly struck shots had no chance of stopping where they should have. I was barely leaving a ballpark on the greens.

Accurate, easy to play and distance control was great. I've played the TourX and Pro X before these soits a shaft I know well. I had a blast today. Shot an 80 but the Score wasn't an indication of how well I played. Greens have yet to be plugged this year. Really want another shot at this course.

The PTMs are a great head and it's a shame they got pulled.

Speaking of elite greens... I finally had a chance to put a new putter setup in play.

These greens today were super fast. Some of them were brutal.

I put a Spin Wedge 100g shaft into a Maltby IX Tour. I used a Traxion Tour weighted grip. Final length was 35"  the shaft has just enough flex in it to really give a ton of feedback. My touch on these greens was pretty surprising. It took a good 3 or 4 greens before I got the speed but the putter did fantastic. I had heard a few customers were doing this setup so I had to try it out. I sank a whole lot of putts today.

Its most definitely staying in the bag!!!

I talked to Pete Callaway at golfworks the other day about putter hosel adapters. He’s supposed to be working on 2 new adapters. I told him I’d love to see a little slant neck adapter like on the TM spider putters.

Setting the neck up just right isn't easy by any means. But done right you can get the putter to sit perfectly for you.

Next I want to try the new Paderson Zero TQ putter shaft. I have another IX head so I'll compare the two builds.

I read a little bit about that shaft and I’m not sure I’d bite on that one...

All right, need some help on next steps in the bag with irons.  The TS2s need reshafting.  But, I have a set of TS1 heads, too.

I've been REALLY pleased with the TS2.

I'm thinking I'll just reshaft the TS2, and maybe move the TS1 in later.

Or, should I just go with a mixed set, TS1 in 7-GW, and TS2 4-5-6 (which is the way the loft profiles seem to work best for gapping).

Now, shafts.  Choice is AMT White S300 OR Tri-Gold S300.

The Tri-Gold were made back in 2000, and were ascending mass AND flighted.

Weight specs found online for Tri-Gold R300 are the SAME as R300 AMT White (circa 2015)!  (I presume same will hold true for S300.)

The Tri-Gold look in good shape.  Any reason not to use them?

Or, in 15 years did shaft manufacturing improve to the point where the AMT would be better?

(I think the Tri-Gold structurally are fine.)

What do we think, Maltby aficianados?

Because the shafts get lighter as they get longer, some have had issues with that but as far as the difference between them, unless you are really sensitive to feel, you probably won’t play any different one vs the other.

Just bought a pak of the STi2. I went with the 5-GW and was swapping the GW for a 4 Iron. Well on the phone he said all the parts where in. Had to order it online to use my PayPal credit. Now it says the Grips are out of stock until July

Give them a call. Grip supply chain is a disaster. They will swap in another grip for you though. The Dicks SG by me has had a nice steady supply of grips so far and they have bailed me out a few times already.

If any fellow WRXers/Maltby aficionados are looking to offload a set of TS1s, I’d love to take them off your hands! My custom order from GW has been delayed again and is currently a month out to get any back in stock. If interested, please shoot me a PM.

What’s out ? The heads?

Yep, the TS1 heads (5-GW) are all on back order now. When I placed my initial order, only the 6 and 7 irons were out. They were supposed to be in last week per my conversation GolfWorks Customer Service, but after a follow up, they’re forecasting the heads coming back in stock by the end of May. With a couple of pushed dates already, my confidence in getting them early season is dwindling.

I’ve got a message out to them for an update. I saw the same in stock designation and updates on the site. Hopefully, that means they’ll be fulfilling orders soon.

Your better of calling. I put in an order on Monday with a note for custom built clubs. No response on my email right after. Finally got through yesterday and my clubs where already being built with out my approval and to the wrong specs and grips

Yikes. That’s not instilling a lot of confidence. I ordered my set of TS-1s on 4/16 and provided the custom assembly approval the next day. Been corresponding through phone and email ever since, but have not been told the order is being built. Maybe another phone call is in order. @TallGuy90 did you order TS-1s?

No I am not skilled like that lol. STi2. Grips where out of stock and was also subbing the GW out for a 4 iron.
