@Popeye64 Is it true that the tugboat captains actually leave their tug, board the ships they're pulling, and actually take control from the captain?

When a foreign ship enters the river from the Gulf it has to have a US Captain/Pilot onboard. Google how a ship pilot boards a ship 😳.... its eye opening for sure, for those!!

Just read the Wikipedia page on "maritime pilot."  Climbing a 40 foot ladder from the tug to the deck of a large freighter?  I wouldn't do it on a calm day, much less rough seas.  No thank you.

That would be a docking pilot. And yes for years that was standard practice. Now they will have a dedicated captain and mate that run the tug boat. A pilot who may be under federal or state license will board the ship and dock it. On the Mississippi its such a long run there will be several pilot stations up and down the river. They run an assigned section.

In Houston a pilot will board out at the sea buoy and ride the ship all the way to the dock.

In this picture an assist tug is about to attach a line on my barges bow and we are going to transit a very tight and narrow river. We do our own work without a pilot.

I think FedEx lost my 7 iron in shipping with all the weather, it went from expected delivery to no updates in several days with it's last known whereabouts being the middle of no-where in Indiana. Hopefully it shows up in one piece someday... In the meantime played a round reminding me that my improvement comes from lessons and practice and not buying gear, so I may hold off on building a full set, hopefully they don't discontinue the clubs on me!

Anybody have any experience with Maltby TSW wedges? These won't be available until April or May but they look amazing:

My only concern is the varying offset and bounce as well as the micro grooves instead of normal grooves.

There's a few comments here about the TSW wedges in this thread.

Here's an example:

Wish they had an option for specialty wedges in the 46-48 degree area. Wishon doesn't seem to make any either.

Any other component makers make wedge heads at this loft? I know Haywood Golf has a 48* and will sell you just a head for $90 (CAD) a pop.

Sub70 would be an option.

Edit, I see you want component.  Diamond Tour Golf (same company as Sub70) would have some ... Inazone line.

I’m in the process of building a set of TS1 irons and have some recoil 780 F4 shafts on the way but all the praise for the Xcailber rapid taper has me second guessing.  How do these 2 shafts compare and what’s the best place to buy the xcaliber if I go that route?  I don’t see them on GW.

my driver swing speed is 97 and my 7iron is 82. I was thinking the 85g stiff, sound about right?

I build my irons longer than standard, my 7 iron is +1/2” at 37.5”.  From what I read swingweight should be around D5?

I have all the Xcaliber shafts available. With your driver ss you should be better with an R flex maybe hard stepped.

Later this week, next week at the latest, if I can find Sim time I will do some comparison of the Rapid Tapers and some Steel fibers. I will also throw in a KBS shaft and a Dynamic gold. I don't think I have a Recoil with that adapter.  All with the same head swapping the shafts with adapters.

Thank you! I was hoping to get some more direct responses from people that play the TSW's. Their groove design is significantly different than all other OEMS and I just wondered how they performed for low handicap/scratch golfers. Specifically - are they easy to flight down or is the COG not high enough? Can you get enough spin with the groove design to nip it clean and stop the ball inside 15-20 yards?

Popeye what do the Rapid Tapers run? Looking at putting some in a set of 5-PW MMB Blacks or DBMs

The micro grooves have been on Maltby irons for quite some time now. They work as good as any groove setup.

Hitting that 2 skip and stop chip is easy with the TSW wedges. Any shot you can think of works.

I have played the chrome version of the tsw wedge since last year. Great feel and I love the grind. The new finish is interesting. I’ll pick one up to compare. Go ahead and get the chrome version. Great wedge

Has anyone else had this topic "disappear" from "content I follow" and "content I posted in" lists?  Very strange...

edit:  My act of posting triggered these back into the above content lists.

Might as well stay on topic:  I'm looking at shafting up some TS1 irons.  I originally got a set of Pro Modus3 105 stiff for these.  But, I was recently fit into Steelfiber i95 stiff.

I've read two accounts that state the two are similar (albeit different materials with slightly different weights.)  Anyone with experience with both have an opinion?

Has there been any definitive testing on the micro grooves vs. standard grooves? I'm guessing the micro grooves spin more from the fairway with no moisture and less from the rough or with moisture but I'd be interested in seeing some data.

That would be very tough to nail down on definitive data from course conditions.

You would have to camp out on a hole and hit from the fairway and the rough.. enough shots to come to a conclusion. Then you have to figure in specific head designs. Was it the design or the grooves that contributed more.

I have seen the Maltby clubs spin marginally more than similar OEM designs when I tested heads with identical shafts. But again, was it head design or the grooves.

What I do know is spin wise the Maltbys never fall short. The only Maltby head I have ever seen lose spin was an MG Tour that was 4 years old. A 56° that was used everywhere. I had adapted my game around its losing spin. Didn't realize the spin numbers I lost till I was on a simulator.

Long story short the Micro Grooves had proven themselves.

All:  What are your thoughts on Maltby fairways?  Currently thinking TC 4 wood versus Stf 3 wood.

I prefer the Stf look from site pix.  I like Adams flat-ish soles and overall low profile look at address.

Face height of the TC2 4-wood is reported as slightly lower.  But the pic (which I think is the 14*,  not the 16*)  just looks "round" to me.

I’ve gamed the TC 4 16* with a Tensei CK Blue 70 stiff for the last year. I put a 10g weight in the head and I’m a big fan. It wants a smooth swing and when I honor that, I’m rewarded with a consistent mid-high flight and soft landing that’ll hold on par 5 approaches. I also use it for a controlled 250y fade off the tee when driver isn’t prudent. If I get too aggressive it gives me sky high blocks. I like how it pretty much never gets left hooky.

Thanks!  The Mizuno shaft analyzer has the CK Blue 60 stiff as my third choice.  I might go with that, or with the Maltby stock regular shaft, which plays like many stiff shafts I've swung.

Everything you’re wondering about you can do with these heads. I can flight these down and I can pick it clean for a quick stop.

My preference is the TC tour. I like the flatter sole. The STW has a bit more roll on the sole to it.

I have not.

Depending on what happens with my friends project I might try one out. I have the KE4 TC 5w for my fw this season and I can probably set up the 890 5w to the same specs as the G400 7w I played the last couple of years
