MD/DC/VA Golfers - Twelve Monkeys Mental Divergence

....I don't like sitting on bare spots in the rough with long grass surrounding the ball, especially around the greens.

This happened multiple times when we played LB (many many moons ago). It was....frustrating

it's a very difficult shot and one that the pros don't face very often.

i don't know what's funnier. me thinking ceejay is taking me serious, or me thinking ceejay is joking.

preliminary answer: it can be two things.

Woodmore members also get reciprocity at the imaginary golf course in my mind, ceejay.

Domes, after you and I play RTJ, we'll head over to Congressional for more reciprocal play.

The article that the Post did about Steve Marino playing East Potomac is classic, you can just sense his disbelief at all the conditioning stuff that people had to deal with.

This is probably dumb, but you know what I'd like to accomplish next year? Increasing my swing speed 5+ mph.

I'm not getting better, so at least I'll feel like I've accomplished something if I can do that.

I'm in this camp. I would really like to hit 110 on the Trackman, squeeze a few more yards out of the driver. I was looking at some of the numbers last night and I think there is just a little tinkering I can do with the driver.

True story I said maybe two days ago I wasnt going to tinker with my long game at all this winter. Thats 100% not true.

So I had I looked at getting those speed training sticks - whatever they are called - and they got mixed reviews. And the concept behind them always terrified me as someone that gets injured. It basically says, just swing out of your shoes swinging these heavy weight sticks. I could just picture my vertebrae spinning apart.

I hadn't seen that, so I googled it. A great read: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/07/01/AR2007070101221.html?sid=ST2009071701245

Anyone else doing the 9-hole challenge at Woodmore Sunday? Two Person Teams. Every hole set up as a short Par 3. Common folk are allowed to play for $25.

I'm undecided and don't know why I'm waffling about it. I'll have a firm answer by tonight. Might have to join you at 9:20 as well!

I’m considering it.

I think the heavy stick is only slightly heavier than a normal driver. The other two are both lighter than a normal driver. Still, I have the same fear.

The concept seems to have some merit. And it doesn't involve making swing changes.

If nothing else, I know I'd pick up speed just purely out of being more in golf shape if I was swinging those things 3 days a week or so. When I was in good shape, and swinging more, I was ~108 avg on Trackman. Now I'm only like 100 average. The idea of being in golf shape sounds dumb, but I swear it's real. I roll out and play once a week'ish, and that's all the cuts I get.

If Superspeed sticks are too much for my wispy joints, I guess there's always CSPCs.

Doesnt sound dumb to me at all. Its one of the reasons I'm back on the spin bike and back doing yoga. If I cant play or swing much this winter, I know damn sure I'm not going to head into next season in bad shape. My swing may be garbage but I know I can at least get myself in shape.

There's a big thread on the swing sticks and it really seems 50-50 as to whether it helps or not. Which to me is about the same result as you'd get out of any random training idea.

I think getting myself in shape-shape is going to be job one. Reshaft irons, job two. Tinker with driver, job three.

I don't mean overall physical condition. I'm talking about swinging more frequently to condition your body better for swinging a club.

I dont / cant separate the two. If I'm just in average shape, my body isnt getting better conditioned for swinging a club.

But I'm closer to Citys age than anyone so younger guys who heal up quicker probably dont have to worry about stuff like that...

Let's say I play once a week. So I'm averaging 36 cuts/round. Say I take 20 cuts to warm up, which is generous. That's 56 CPWs (cuts per week).

If I did something like superspeed 2-3x/week, I'd be tripling my CPWs on they very low end. I think regardless of whether superspeed itself works, I'd pick up swing speed purely based on massively increasing my CPWs.

Add in CSPCs, and the results increase exponentially. Look out, Hammerin Champ.

Make sure you guys take a picture when you hit your speed on trackman.

I would bet a month's salary that at any given time, people's on-course non-measured swing speed is 4-5 mph slower than it is when they're on a range/simulator knowingly with some sort of device measuring swing speed, especially when their stated intention is to be able to swing a driver faster than they do now.

And dc and Fabb are the two most fragile people here.

hearing about you guys making plans to play in a par 3 challenge that i set up at hivemore when it'll be a high of 36°... this makes me incredibly happy.

top 3 teams win pro shop credit, and based on the weather, we're currently trending towards a total of... (wait for it)... 3 teams. :D

if anyone else wants in, just call the pro shop @ 301-249-0462 to register. you won't need to pre-pay, and you don't need to have an accompanying member to play. open to all. $25 entry fee for non-members includes 2 beverages and 1 app per team.

And how much speed would you pick up if you just did yoga or light dumbbell work or cardio 2-3x a week?

Like I said, I'm not saying it doesnt work, I just bet getting stronger/more flexible would have just as big an effect.
