MD/DC/VA Golfers - Twelve Monkeys Mental Divergence

I took Rory. I'd like to root for Rory this weekend.

I played the most "city" round of golf ever at Waverly yesterday. . .clubs all all the "regulation" shot into the green. . .

1 : bogey with a wedge

2 : bogey with a wedge

3 : par with a 7 iron

4 : birdie with a hybrid

5 : par (3) with 9 iron

6 : bogey with a wedge

7 : crazy up and down for par

8 : bogey with a wedge

9 : par with a 6 iron from 180 (+3 at this point)

10 : PAR with a wedge!!!!

11 : par (chip)

12 : bogey with a wedge

13 : 180 yard 7 iron to 12 feet (windy)

14 : par with a hybrid

15 : 161 yard 6 iron to 15 feet (windy)

16 : Par with a 7 iron

17 : par with a 4 iron (to 20 feet)

18 : missed green with wedge. tough U/D for par

I played holes 4/9/14/16/17 in 1 under par.

I played the par 3's in even

If you know Waverly, and you do that, that round should be about a 70 at worse, but

of 7 holes where I had a wedge into the green, I made 2 pars and 5 bogeys. 3 of those bogeys were bad 3 putts, but still.

They seem to have rolled the greens there; they're still a little janky, but at least they were a little flatter and faster.

8 can be a bogey sometimes, but you definitely can't be over par on 2-11-18. Those are easy par 5s from any set of tees. And I'd say "It's only March. Golf season hasn't even started yet." but you've been working on the game a lot this winter. So you should definitely be really hard on yourself about those wedge bogs. Go hit 'em on the range until your hands bleed after work today. Snap a rubber band on your wrist every time you thin one.

City - since it seems like some of the bogies I've been making, what was your miss with the wedge? Long or short - or just too far from the pin? Cant wait to get out of here tonight, playing until dark.

Surprised no one took Koepka in the pool. I stuck with him this week, wont see our breakdown till this afternoon.

molinari 4, fleetwood 4, JT 3, rory 3 (including me and city), sergio 3, tiger 2, casey 2, xander 2, fitzpatrick 1 (LOLOLOL), kuchar 1, cabrera-bello 1, webb 1

this is the first time all year i've changed a pick. i had tiger in earlier but switched to rory. form.trumps.all. and i think tiger is going to be too passive off the tee. so he'll probably grind out a T7 while rory MC and i weep

signs you know it's golf season: my friend and at work starting complaining about slow play today. he hasn't played a round yet. he used to be so frustratingly slow and would get offended when i would point it out

The bogeys generally weren't too bad.

I 3-putted 1 down hill from 25 feet. Good wedge

2, I missed the green left from 122. Big pull.

6, I 3-frutted. It was actually a decent shot off a downhill lie into a strong breeze. Very bad read.

8, I 3-putted down hill on a bad read, but the wedge was too deep. Partly the wedges fault. Partly the putter's fault.

12, my tee shot came to rest on a steep hill, below my feet and downhill lie. It was a tough shot, but I dropped another ball and hit it close.

18, just a huge pull (like hole 2). I had like 115 into a strong breeze.

And, fabb, I have been hitting wedges till my hands bleed. Absolutely no indication that these pulls were going to creep up until I got on the course. It's so crazy. I hit 7/8 shots with 7 iron through hybrid that never left the stick. Then I get over a wedge and 10 yard pull from 120.

I took Kuchar as a "placeholder" on Tuesday morning, but I was tossing it over in my head. Then, talking to PQ yesterday, he was like, "they say that place is going to playing a lot longer" and that kind of pushed me over the edge to switch.

I was going to take Adam Scott. Now I wish I had that I see the distribution.

I think those are the first TW picks of the year.

I took Rors. Didn’t get my analytics in place, but he’s been playing real well recently and is the type of guy who plays in streaks. And there were enough thread people (WRX wife) dumping on his putting and closing ability that I figured he won’t be overly popular. He could rinse a bunch and miss the cut too though.

I had a dream last night where I was supposed to play a round with Rory, then I show up and it’s a clinic with a million people. He was with Mindy Kaling for some reason. I was a jerk since I thought I was special and we were going to be alone, then he banned me from the clinic. This is surely a sign that he’s going to win this week.

I've heard of the putting yips, the chipping yips, and the driver yips. Is this the first documented case of the wedge yips? I'm only being like 60% sarcastic here. Do you actually feel any kind of mental angst pulling wedge out of the bag on the course?

I never feel mental angst about anything.

Really, the ones on 2 and 18 were bad. The rest were either actually good shots and bad putts, or 1 really tough lie. The lie I had on 12 was off a steep part of that hill running down to the bottom. Like, in summer, not a chance a ball stops there. The approach shot on 8 came out of the rough which has been "plugged". Not a great lie.

HBD -- I have been playing more of a trap-draw wedge shot. But, it's not appropriate for all pins/lies. I'm not chunking wedges or anything.

I thought about it but completely backed off when he kept talking about his neck pains. I thought maybe that was a smoke screen to bail on playing last week - but now I dont know.

Everyone buys one length iron sets because the long irons are easier to hit, and they deal with longer wedges as a trade off. City could be the first person in recorded history where the opposite is true. Give him a 7 iron length 60.

PQ said, "you need a 12 inch 3 iron instead of a wedge".

Like someone mentioned last week, I always make a "placeholder" pick on Monday and revisit later in the week. Molinari was my placeholder last week, then I switched away after the equipment change announcement. Oops. This week, I stuck with my placeholder pick, Casey. Have Rickie as a lone wolf in my other OAD.

DFS pricing is ridiculously loose this week. I have 3 DK teams built around 8 guys, none of whom are ranked below 32 in the OWGR.

I've watched you talk yourself into topping 4w off the deck before, so I don't buy this.

No you haven't.

You've seen me talk to myself pre-shot.

You've seen me top a 4W.

No koepka, no Dj, no Fowler in our pool. Wow.

No Rose or Bryson either. I actually am surprised no one took Day. Obviously his health is in question but his game sets up so well for this course. And I'm pretty sure he's trolling me. After withdrawing last week he is playing this week and next week at the Valspar. I made sure to throw him in one DK lineup just to be safe.

I was on Tiger all week. I think he's going to get it going on the greens.

I'm not sure if it helps or hurts him that the course is soft. Is it soft enough that he'll feel more comfortable pulling the D, or will he stick with a conservative tee game and be left playing even longer approaches because of the conditions?

I think he will stay conservative off the tee. He knows his irons are the best part of his game.

he's going to play the course from 190 yards while everyone else plays it from 120. and someone will get through the 72 holes without a disaster and the advantage is just too much for him to overcome

pull the D. lol
