dont know about terrible picks but I'm definitely picking guys who are putting new equipment into play...much to my surprise. Reed is playing a new Srixon ball this week for the first time. made 4 or 5 birdies today though and is T15 - I'll take that after round one.

 

Yeah. I made a quick pivot off Molinari this week for this very reason.

lots of water = unpredictable. driving distance not important = unpredictable. players is both. in 5? years i don't think i've ever had a pick in contention on a sunday during the players. i had rickie one year he was like -4 through 8 and MC. I had spieth one year when he turded it. my first year ben crane was 5 under after the first day and then had a MC. i'm 100% scar tissue at this event.

After playing the course a few weeks ago, the one area that stood out to me was driving accuracy followed by proximity to the hole. But what do I know, I’m in 26th place in the pool.....just hoping to make a top 5 pick this weeek! Haha

JT is my first lean this week but I've been tempted to take Rory too. Problem is every time I came back to the coverage yesterday he was hitting a completely mediocre shot around the green and its not like those are going to get easier at Sawgrass.

Got out early yesterday for my first post-able round since late September (!). Man, probably as wet a course as I have ever played (to be expected). Was generally pleased with my play. Only one drive worse than C (only hit like 5 fairways, but all the misses but 1 were just in the first cut, more than playable). Iron play was up and down, had a couple wedges I'd like to have back, but also smoked some long irons. Been working on really turning though the ball and getting my left hip back on the downswing and it's leading to really solid contact and a much squarer face at impact. But I struggled at times keeping my shoulders level, which led to some flares high and right. Short game was tidy and I didn't really pay much attention to my putting results given how slow, wet and bumpy the greens were. Posted a 40/40 with an ESC double (OB drive). Hit driver a lot more than usual, owing to both the wet conditions and wanting to see how the swing was coming along, but still had 1 or 2 clubs more into about half the greens than I usually do.

 

More than anything else, it got me excited to play more. I did not realize that I hadn't posted a round in more than 4 months. Not sure the last time that has happened.

Got on at RTJ yesterday. Place was soaked as to be expected. Tried to document it on IG for all the round documentation all stars amongst us. Played VERY well for my standards, 80 with 37 putts, which were essentially 39 putts if you count two eminently puttable frutts. Prez O was two groups behind us. Secret Service swarming. I screamed in agony after lipping out a par putt on 15 and he definitely heard me from across the water. Oops! Sorry mister president, I’m trying to break 80 over here!

I just found out this weekend that my really good friend from college is planning to get married next September in Monterey. His fiancee grew up there. I mean since I am already going to be in the area I may as well plan to play Pebble while I am there. That just makes sense. Right? RIGHT?

- alternate broadcast of pgatour events, with a specific tilt towards his weekly picks

- hour long diatribes about inefficiencies in his workflow, his underlings and the horrors of salesforce

- weekly musical selections

- the bestest vape setup and why

- people watching in downtown dc (must have accompanying video)

- sounds and reactions to golf shots from himself and his playing partners*

- reading popular children's books and rating them

18th hole, hivemore, late 2018. for those that don't know, it's a par 5. lake woodmore is left of the fairway, and all the way up to and past the green. pretty sure we are a 5some: HBD, me, tex, CJ and buttery. i actually hit a pretty good drive down the fairway, almost as far as HBD. pull 3w from 230 and hit a linedrive at the green. smoked. ball hits in the throat and bounces up and onto the green.

 

HBD standing right next to me and he goes, "that was SEXUAL."

 

i need to hear more comments like that in my life.

ahoop and I headed to EPP for a range session yesterday afternoon. 2 things:

 

1) I have never seen it as crowded as it was. There was a line to get golf balls out of the machine. Every stall was occupied and there were almost as many people waiting for others to be done.

 

2) They must have 60,000 golf balls there. The range itself was covered, and I bet they were selling 150 per minute all afternoon.

 

We were switching off before we got a second stall, and I hit some of the nicest shanks of my golfing career for my first 30 swings.

 

But, by the end of the session I was really hitting it well. Looking forward to Saturday.

Driving range stalls give me fits. It always feels like I’m about to clank my driver on something. It also makes me feel cramped so I also become more hosel adjacent than usual.

I was also at the range at EPP yesterday afternoon with the roommate. Some old guy was trying to teach his not-quite-as-old significant other? It sounded like they were on a date or something. I think she was getting annoyed with all of his nonsense and metaphors. He said something about how a golf swing is like flying an airplane, and you wouldn't try to land an airplane from 35,000 feet.

 

Anyway, the roommate got a compliment from said old man on her golf swing, which is cool I guess.

 

I wanted to play the red course, so I didn't bring anything bigger than an 8i with me. But Pinehurst showed me I either need to work on my wedge play, or just buy new wedges, so it worked out.

There looked to be a fair number of less than enthusiastic roommates at the EPP range yesterday.

 

The guy who took ahoop's stall when he was finished said "way to smash it. That's something to aspire to". Just some info for handicapping purposes on Saturday.

I've never understood the desire to bring one's roommate to the range/course. If mine was genuinely interested in the game for herself, sure. She's not, so I'll go by myself thank you very much.

 

Much like my man Tommy Fleetwood, Hoop is a flusher. How could he not be, with an impact like this.
