I cant stand the USGA but at this spoint I think he just comes off as whiny. He's *on* the Players Advisory Board, or whatever its called. I'm sure to some extent they've been consulted about these changes. But if I had to guess he probably ignored a lot of that kind of stuff as it came down and figured either it wasnt worth his time or he would worry about it later.

 

I think the new rules are mostly fine. And at this point I dont know if his complaint is with the rule itself or the consistency of the rulings. Sure some of these rulings have been terrible - the Schenck one is probably the worst. And they really start to look bad on tv.

 

But at some point, I dont know, suck it up and get over it I guess. Like I said, I have done my share of hating on the USGA in the past. But I dont want to tune in every weekend and hear more stories about players whining about the new rules.

JT's use of twitter to engage fans is awesome but when he uses that vehicle to further his agenda it can't just be a one way street, no matter how much he'd want it to be.

Hello everyone...I'm recently new to the DMV area and live near Waldorf. Would love the opportunity to play with anyone this spring, as I don't know many folks outside of work.

 

Additionally, wanted to know if anyone is interested in joining me for the Defense Intelligence Agency Golf Tournament on April 26th at Fort Belvoir, VA? Format is Captain's Choice (Best Ball) with check-in at 0715 and shotgun start at 0800. It's $85 for CAC holders (civilian, military, contractor) and $95 for civilians. Price includes range balls, cart and greens fees, lunch, and pays for the prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams, as well as long drive and closest to the pin.

 

As of right now, it's just me, but I'd love to put a competitive team out there and win. Let me know if you're interested and we can work out the details.

JT comes off as a whiny little s***. Then he says he was "hurt" by the USGA PR tweet calling him out. GFY. It's like the tour players have all decided they can use the USGA as their whipping boy whenever they want to show they have some personality or care about the game and people will just go along. It's tiresome.

 

Listen, I'm not sold on all the rules changes and especially how they are being applied (NLU had a good discussion about this on the post-Honda podcast -- maybe they ought to start enforcing the anchoring ban and pace of play rules first). But I think on the whole, they are a net positive. And the PGA Tour players sh**ting on them (literally, Rickie) isn't a good look.

The USGA had some fake moral highground before the new rules. Whenever there was a rules issue, you'd have jokers defending it as "the rules are the rules, deal with it!" And that was enough to stop the conversation. Now that they've revamped the rules, I think they are more open to public criticism. Clearly some of the rules ARE bad, or else they wouldn't have changed so many this year. So let's call them out in public until they get changed for the better. And I think the superstars of the game have an obligation to do that because no one is going to listen to the Adam Schenks or Denny McCarthys of the world.

 

I think the intent of the rule is good, in that they don't want caddies lining everything up for the player. The application has been horrid so far.

Ironically, this rules change was like 98% targeted at the LPGA, and they haven't had a single issue that I am aware of.

Yeah our mens assoc kickoff tourney is this Saturday. Windchills in the 20s = nope.

 

I'm always bummed too that A team is this early in the year. Not sure why its not in the Fall, after the main tourney season is over but people have been playing for 6 months or so. Its like they are cramming it in to two weekends to get it over with as fast as possible.
