Cobra Tour Length Driver Ordered!

klbcec

Recommended Posts

Just ordered the Cobra Tour Length Driver. Currently carry a Fly Z+ driver with Oban Revenge Shaft 6 in stiff flex. Love the idea of a slightly shorter driver. I am a Cobra fanboy as I have had the Bio Cell and the Fly Z+ as my last two drivers. Supposed to be here Friday.

I'll give you guys a review on Monday since I don't think many have reviewed it.

I think you're going to be impressed. I bought my Tour Length first of the season, and even cut it down another 1/2" to play close to 44". Had to add a piece of lead tape to get the swing weight back and it has been a great change from the 915 D3 that it kicked out of the bag.

What was your experience as far as distance and accuracy?

I think people should need to get a permit from a professional fitter to buy anything longer than 44.5”.

Ultra long drivers are the scourge of the golf industry. Very few amateurs should use a driver longer than 44”.

I played this weekend with a guy that had a “custom” 47” inch ping with a Fuji XLR8 shaft. Before we teed off he said how much he loved it and how he just hits it so long and it is just incredible...

Dude was ready to break it over his knee by the back 9. Pathetic.. Hitting little 100-150 yard worm burner toe shots and heel shots nearly every time. Couldn’t find the face to save his life. Surprise, surprise.

I didn’t say a word about it and just kept blasting 300+ yard bombs with my 43.5” Cobra LTD. Hit one 366 yards on a par 5. It was very firm and it was downwind, but I hit that ball REALLY hard.

I’ve been playing my driver at 43.5” for 25 years. Never going longer.

Welcome to GolfWrx, where everyone hits it 350 yards and looks down on anyone that doesn't. Sigh.

I'm not totally convinced of this. Do you really think cutting a bit off the shaft is going to help a guy who is hitting 150 yard worm burners? No, its not.

The biggest issue (IMO) is people trying to do things their bodies simply can't do. Go watch Martin Kaymer wind up his driver backswing. His body barely moves at all. I can hit it a bit, and feel like I'm at address at impact. Most guys who bomb it stay tucked in their spine angle from start to finish, especially the left hip to left thigh after impact (the hardest part to hold).

Most guys, however, want to hit it 270 but have the squat muscles and flexibility to hit it 235. So they have to do all sorts of contortions to hit it as far as they "should", with the telltale sign - the right heel flying off the ground well before the driver comes near the ball.

I'd be willing to bet that if you added an inch to your driver and they cut an inch off theirs the results would be identical. In my experience most guys want to hit it a long way but simply don't have the physical tools to do so without some insane spine wind up stand up thing, and that makes it really hard to get the clubface back to the ball.

47" is long, but I can hit a 4 iron that's 40" (its called a hybrid) when stock is 38. You don't go from in control to completely incompetent because of a half inch of shaft. Most guys can't hit driver because they think they should hit it 290 but they have the body to hit it 230. So they jerk and stand up and go way over the line etc... etc.. trying to get yardage their physical fitness just can't give them.

Hitting the gym > cutting driver down.

I wish they made more 44.5-45" drivers because i hate how much weight i have to add to get my drivers remotely normal feeling.

That's the only thing that's stopped me from cutting mine down. I'm afraid of messing with the swing weights.

It would be a alot easier if i wasn't so cheap,

then i could pay someone to do it :swoon:

I got the Tour Length a few weeks ago. Even though I've only played a couple rounds with it, I already love it. I'm still getting used to it, but I feel like I can dial this one in better than my previous drivers. My terrible misses are still terrible, but my good drives are REALLY good. Hopefully it stays solid, cause I'm tired of spending money. LOL

I made a 41" driver out of a g400 lst and a kuro kage 5 wood shaft. Had to add 24 grams to the head to get it feeling right... But omg I hit the sweet spot every single time with it. Just silly easy to find a fairway. Sure I can only hit it 255, but it has totally eliminated the garbage drive.

I am going to try a setup at 43" and see if I can get 20 yards back and still hit the middle, but if not, then screw it I will play the 41" mini driver forever.
