Aerotech SteelFiber FC Shafts

I just ordered the 19 Apex Pro with FC 115 stiff. I am coming from the 716 AP2 with i95 stiff. The issue I had with the AP2 with the i95 is the total overall weight was just too light for me. My miss was typically thin. I’ve played them for 2 years and my ball striking was down. They also were too low flight in the long irons. They were very straight and could hit a little draw but struggled to hit a fade.

I have had limited time with the FC 115, but overall the weight is much better, my swing path and the feel of where the club is, is much better. I have only hit the 7 iron so far, but my overall peak height is higher, and about a half of club longer. They do feel slight counter balance as it feels there is more weight under the handle and the tip is softer feeling.

Its another month before I get out on the course here in Michigan. So I will get a better idea how they are then.

Well first of all, weight is generally more important than stiffness. So if the 90's really is a good fit you don't really want the i80's regardless of how close they might be in stiffness. And most reputable sellers would understand the mistake and let you return the shafts as long as they stay untouched, although you'd have to foot the bill for the return shipping.

But I really don't know how the stiffness might compare. I never hit the i80's and don't have the profile data on the fc90's. The i80's are a little bit softer than the i95's but hard to say if it's enough or not for you and your swing.

Metro Detroit here myself. This tennis elbow is taking forever to go away and I'm trying to take it easy. After years of KBS Tour Stiff in Mizuno MP-63 I tried PXG 0211 with Steelfiber i95 Reg flex. It didnt matter which graphite brand I tried, the Stiff flex had too much of a boardy feel. I had to put my fear of switching to Reg flex aside and focus on the feel which improved going with Reg flex. The weight change wasnt a problem and maybe I got lucky but the heads dont feel heavy or anything, surprisingly balanced actually. I'm not getting any younger but I did pick up 12-15 yards per iron with this setup. Dispersion didnt change and the mid irons dont balloon like before but it all starts with feel for me and going to a Reg flex was the answer. I noticed the i95 Reg has a mid kick point vs. mid/high kick with the i95 Stiff, that must be why.

Just want to say this site is awesome and love all the comments and details.

Just ordered a used set of Mp59’s with these FC90CW’s. My fav irons ever were MB2’s with Steelfiber AMi99’s (flighted) from 7-8 years ago.

Then had them in CMB’s and should have never sold them.

While I know the 90’s might be a little light I am very soft in transition so should be perfect, thanks fellas!

will follow up after with results...

- Something that continues to go long off the tee in the fairway
- Something that is a fairway finder when needed and long
- Something that high, consistent and helps with par 5’s
-  Something to help with long par3’s and short par 4’s

-  Something metal, lots of them and go the gaps I need
- Something metal, 2x of them and helps me 120y and in
- Putters - limited rotation because I cannot afford misses

Golf is what you make of it.  Play grateful and accepting. We are all lucky to have it.

Rather than expecting lets all try and appreciate instead.

Did you demo the FC90's before selecting them? The FC series are not the same as the i-series or AMi's you're used to. They are quite a bit softer. Don't get me wrong, I think the FC's are great shafts and love them but if you're hoping to get the feel you had with the AMi's, they might not be what you're expecting.

Hi Stuart I am in NH. Where abouts are you?

I didnot get fitted. I love to tinker and know my specs but probably should get fitted at some point. Maybe use Custom Klubs if you know them.

So I am blown away with these Fc90cw’s. They are very different from PX6.0’s or the AMi Steelfibers. At first I thought way to light and floppy but after range 18 and 9 holes I think I have them figured out.

They fly higher and distance is there too. I hit a 6i from 190 out with some wind and even how hard our greens are I stuck it with a little roll. I also have seen these shafts completely save hooks! I had 180 into the wind and planned to feather a 5i but wound up swinging hard and flipped my hands. A shot I would have lost way left with my Px6.0’s but this evened out and still grabbed the green.

My review of these shafts is they are awesome. They do feel light and I seem to pull them when warming up but once I settle in I am hitting higher and longer shots than ever and with Mp59’s which aren’t known for their length. All my lofts are standard too as they where just checked (46* pw). But what may be my issue is the lies are a bit more upright than what I am used too.

If anyone is thinking about these shafts I highely recommend. I still have my AMi99 Player Spec shafts in a set of Tour Issue MB/MC/CB set. I will have to get those out and give them a try soon. Stuart if you are reading hit me up. Maybe we can get out on the course.

Hi @Ben Berube, Glad you like them and are working out well for you, although with the comment about having to get used to being light, I'm wondering if the fc115's might be a slightly better fit. In my opinion what they really need to make is something in between the 90 and 115, like maybe a 100 or 105 gm version.
I've heard of Kustom Clubs but no experience with them. I'm a bit farther north, roughly half way between Lebanon and New London.

Well said Stuart_G

They definitely need to be a little more options. Unfortunately I gotthe irons off ebay as a set. But if I were to order these new I would go up in weight.

But again very impressed with these FC90CW Steelfiber shafts. They seem to save me on bad shots while help promote higher ball flight and distance is great if not slightly better.

I am usually a low ball hitter and have played PX6.0’s for years. Before that I played KBS Smokes in MB2’s or AMi99 Player Spec Steelfibers which were hands down the best shafts I ever owned.

Thanks again and appreciate everyones insight. Love this site!

Little late on this thread but looking for a little assistance with SteelFiber FC vs i series.  In the past year I have had a CC Trackman fitting putting me in SF i110r. A couple of months ago a Mizuno Shaft Optimizer fitting on demo day and SF i110s was #1.  Still did not pull trigger.  This week went to a highly credentialed club fitter/builder/repairer, 20 year tour van guy for a FlightScope fitting.  Again, Mizuno Shaft Optimizer. Again on the list was SF i110s (but #4). In fact, the top three shafts from the Mizuno day were three of the top four shafts most recently.  My entire list of shafts were right in the 110g range. Fitter had me hit 4 of the top 6 shafts (PXLZ 5.0, KBS Tour R, KBS C Tap Lite S, Modus 120 S) but he did not have SF i110 .  He also added SF i95r and SF fc90s.  Did not like KBS - they never seem to feel good to me.  SF were the longest, PXLZ and Modus straightest.  Both SF's felt great (as the i110 did on Demo day) and fitter felt with the full analysis (distance, spin, height, etc.) the fc90s was the shaft.  I inquired to the difference with i110, which seems to be the prevailing shaft (and weight for me) for me given the CC fitting and two times, months apart, on the shaft optimizer. He thought the fc90s and the i110s would be similar as the fc90 controls flight - higher in long irons, more penetrating in short irons.  But I am thinking the dispersion was better with the 110g shafts due to the weight over 95g shafts.  I load and release early with an aggressive transition, and height and spin are not a problem whether I am in a 95g or 125g shaft.  Anyone have insight how the i110 might compare to the i95 or fc 95.  I think I saw on another tread that the i95 played firmer than the i110, but when I called Aerotech, he told me they are the exact profiles with weight being the only difference.

There is a FC115. It looks like you are between a regular and a stiff. So you could soft-step the FC115 twice and have a shaft that weighs close to 110.

I ordered a sets of Apex Pro 21' in SF i110cw and FC115cw.  I thought I would prefer the i110s over fc115 but found the fc to have a better feel.  The i110 felt dead in some shots and had greater distance dispersion.  The fc short irons were lower flighted than my TT S300 & S400 on my old heads.  Something I wanted.  The FC 5 and 6 irons have great distance and descent and more accurate than my TT.

Recommend SF FC115cw (Stiff).  Definitely less easier on my arms and very accurate.   Very nicely balanced.  Surprised how much I enjoy my Pitching wedge in SF.  Very easy to control.
