The answer is "all over the place" Monthly dues for Low end clubs might be in the $400 range and upper-end clubs in the $1000 range and up.

Our dues did not go up this year because of the significant construction and course rebuilding. I expect them to go up 10% next year.

My club is open year-round, it went up like 3-4% i think. I dont mind, there has NEVER been an assessment and everything is top notch.

The fee schedule is on the website if anyone cares to look.

To be clear the chap from England was stating annual dues and you are mentioning monthly dues.

That is expensive! The courses in Scotland, especially, are great value for money, notably the top links courses. A yearly ticket for play at 7 of the Links in St Andrews (including Old Course) varies from £260 for residents of St Andrews to £985 for non-residents. Royal Dornoch is only £525 a year. Theses are world top 10 courses. Not everywhere is like that, however. Golf membership is on the decline in UK (that's for another thread).

Apologies for going off topic...

To be honest it's not even worth comparing golf club memberships in the U.K and U.S. The membership models are completely different. Apples to oranges.

Perhaps it was a subconscious salt rubbing in wounds without realising!

I agree with that for sure. Here in Arizona a big big big part of the budget is the water bill. My dues WOULD have gone up about the normal 5% this year. Luckily I was able to purchase a lifetime membership 2 1/2 years ago. Paid about 6 1/2 to 7 years worth of dues up front and do not have to pay them again-ever. Includes locker fees and bag storage as well so pretty darn good deal for a US course.

A big difference is the cost of land. A lot of UK courses have been in place for 100 years or more so there is no cost to buy land. And since they were built 100 years ago, there is no longer any capital investment.

In the US, most courses have been built in the last 40 years and land purchases are quite expensive. Then add the cost to build the course and clubhouse at current rates.
