Two drives in almost exactly the same spot

Played today with a friend, we play fairly similarly. Lots of our shots are in the same region per hole but one shot today was ridiculous. Uphill par 4, both of us hit driver, both of us hit good drives, when we got to our balls this is what we saw:

I took the pic on a bit of an angle but the balls were literally side by side, we had 130yds in so the drives were 250ish...crazy to see how close these drives wound up to each other.

It happens, most likely, more than one might expect.

 

Good thing you played different balls. I don't see any markings. If they had been identical they'd have likely both been lost (actually been there, done that). LOL

Several years ago my friend and I missed the fairway to the right with several trees and mulch - ours were touching, crazy!

I had something similar while practising last night. My first drive was a low pull fade (an odd shot for me) and as I was on my own and the course was empty I hit another. This was one was straight but too high. The second ball stopped within a yard of the other one.

 

I wasn't happy with either shot as the balls only went about 190 yards. My next shot was better though, a scorching 3h that went 210 yards.

 

Still - it does you good to laugh :)

Today during the Irish Open they showed a ruling for two drives that were physically in contact with each other ... wierd!

Believe it or not, I had the _exact_ same situation today except for it was about 8".

 

Bizarro.

I had that happen once, about the same distance apart.

Another time, myself and the two guys on my team in scramble all hit our 2nd shots on a Par 5 within a four foot circle. Of course, we were short of the green and not on in two. :)

One of the balls was marked (the broadcast didn't show exactly how) and lifted out of the way, the second ball was played as is, and then the marked/lifted ball was replaced as closely as possible to it original position and lie, and played ... all this was done with the help of a rules official.
