From what I gather a lot depends on weather you got the X or F model. I have found the F is more suited to my swing and I've had the best results with lighter, tip-stiff shafts and under 45" playing lengths (RIP Alpha, YSQst, V2 was pretty good, I have an Aura Red now, but haven't hit it yet due to some seriously cold rain here). I also prefer to cottonball this head and that's the main reason I like lighter shafts. I'll step aside now and let the bombers suggest what to play in an X model.

I have a 9 X with a Pype 60 X shaft and it works great with the heavy head.

What about the fubuki that comes in a Fast 12 LS? I hit that thing great and I was planning on picking up a second one to refinish the silver head black...which means I'd have a spare shaft

I put a proforce v2 counterbalance X flex, tipped 1" in this head once...it was a monster. a heavy heavy heavy monster.

I recently witnessed someone getting 2 brand new 8* L4V tour issue heads. Oh they were glorious and I believe the MOI is like 5900 lol. We actually shafted one up and it was a missile launcher.

I like mine shorter and heavier. I've had a 9*x with a WB73s tipped 2" and it was fine. The results another 9*x (current) with a Pype 80x @ 44" are serious. I should have cotton-balled the head though.

What head did you get?

It is a 9*X head. I usually play a Stiff in my driver. The S in the stock Fubuki in my Fast 12 LS feels great...but I don't know much about shafts and never veered far from what comes in the driver when I get one...but I haven't ever hit a driver as good as the Fast 12 I'm playing now(paired with a 3 days lesson so I can actually hit a driver properly now). Only reason I grabbed the L4VX was the cult following must mean something so I had to try for such short money. I play a c-taper S in my irons with a 7i swingspeed of 90 verified on Flightscope...unfortunately don't know my driver swingspeed.

If you get along with the Fubuki and have an extra, give it a shot! The L4 is a heavy head so you may want to play it shorter or tip it a little to keep it playing within flex. Good luck!

It's strange that this club is 7 years old and I've yet to find a replacement that is as long and as forgiving? I've found a few that are a little longer, but were not as forgiving.

I'm curious to hear what those of you are using, if you are no longer using this driver.

When I hit mine side by side with my 913D2, sometimes the L4V is longer, and sometimes the 913 is longer. I feel a little more comfortable with the L4V, but my 913 is not very old. I really like them both.

When I am not swinging well due to lack of practice or poor machanics, there is no more forgiving driver that I have found yet for me anyway. Pulls and pushes replace hooks or slices I would see from other drivers.

Mine carries farther, but still shares time with a ProD that runs for miles when it's not wet out.

Well I tried it and the short story is my L4VX is now on eBay. It was straight, but I think my Fast 12 LS was just as straight and longer. I never got past the stock shaft but the sound wasn't for me either...that Adams club just works for me.

Anyone tried an Aldila Rogue Silver in this head yet? I've got an X speed head laying around and I'm thinking about trying that head/shaft combo.

I agree, it's a great head. Absolute all around performer. I'm just trying to find a newer model shaft that pairs well. Something on the light side with a stiffer tip. This was the first club that made me ok with seeing a nice 5-10 yard fade, time and time again. Almost unfair. And we all know what happens when a wrx`er gets bored..or maybe I'm just catching up on too much Mad Men on my Christmas break.

The AxivCore Tour Green 75x is what Holmes was using to ruin the tee boxes back when he was a Cobra staffer. Highly recommend that combo.

Nope. This head very much likes shorter builds with heavier shafts. I tried the Tour Green (actually 85x) briefly before going to a ProtoPype 80x in that head. I think the JB Holmes setup was 44.75 inches, tipped .75. ROBO told me that. Mine wasn't tipped, though. Honestly, the Pype was a great setup too. 70 or 80 gram Pype with this head at 44.5 is awesome.

I just took mine out and will play it again this week. One of the greatest drivers ever. It deserves another shot at the bag.

Mine is shafted with a PM 702 Prototype S @ 44 1/4 Swingweight D4.

FYI at last years Zurch Cobra Pimp gaves these to Robo and yes hes still using them to this day. These were literally the last new heads they had that were Tour issued. The day after he got these we played an oh my god were they a blast to hit.

Someone had two of those on the BST lately. I don't know whether they were TI or not, but ROBO told me guys on the tour were often using the off the rack head (Holmes being one). Seems that this was the only head that Cobra sold every one of. There was no remaining inventory at one point. I don't know the ins and outs of the industry, but I am guessing that is rare.

Yep I was there when Cobra Pimp was telling us that same information. Insane and no I don't believe that's been done before or since.

I'm necro'ing this thread just to say how much of a joke this club is. :rofl: It is still sooooo good. I have tried countless head/shaft combos from every ping g whatever to titleist 9something or other. This is just as good as everyone of those if not better.

 

Here's a little list of just some of the drivers I have bagged since my first L4V:

 

- Ping g25 with an AD Dj 8s, a rip phenom 60, and pro force v2.

- g30 ls tec with an oban kiyoshi, an AD DI 6, oban devotion 6 04

- 910 D3/913 D2 with project x 7c3 and whiteboard 83s

- Cobra LTD Rogue black Stiff.

- Cobra Bio cell with a white tie

 

 

Those are just the head/shaft combos I can think of off the top of my head that I have bought and put in the bag for an extended period of time. I have hit pretty much every driver that has been released over the past 6 or so years (I was a little late to the L4V party). Every time I change I eventually go back to the L4V like a bad drug.

 

 

Played in a scramble over the weekend. Guess what driver won the long drive competition. Not the G LS tec or the M1 or even the F6 pro. It was a Cobra L4V X from 2007/08. It was long and dead nut straight all day. :superman: I paired it with a Fujikure Motore Speeder 7.2 VC Tour Spec shaft. Not sure if anyone has tried this combo, but it is seriously unreal. It was just a beast all day even after almost a decade. To top it off, someone must have hotmelted this before I got it because it doesn't even sound like an obnoxious garbage can lid like my other L4V.

 

 

If anyone has any of these laying around collecting dust in their garage and they want to get rid of it let me know. I am done trying to hide it, I might as well just start buying backups so I can play this club until I am too old to swing. Why try to fight it any more, so frustrating.

I have an F speed 9.0 that is paired with Speeder 660TR that is still pretty impressive. Still in my backup back that is at my brother's house in another state. Beat the bejezzus out of it. The sound is awful though...
