Is anyone that has compared this driver (L4V) against Cobra X-Speed? I have this driver...old but longer than modern drivers like RFX and R1? It's a true bomber!!

If you consider COR is maxed, the L4 should be on par with anything else in the present and future. What makes the L4 stand out is that you can put your full force behind the head and shots will only be so bad. It just frees you up off the tee. DriverWedge might have a comparison between the two Cobra drivers for you. Certainly ROBO would.

I had an old F-Speed. The F-Speed was on par with the L4V in terms of distance (maybe only slightly longer?), but the L4V is significantly more forgiving. You can swing out of your shoes and the ball is still playable (unlike the F-Speed). A fantastic driver. I'm still gaming mine...

Yep. I've had both. A 9* L4X and still have both a 7.5* and 8.5* X Speed (7.5* is my favorite of the two by far). I found the X Speed to be a longer club for one reason- much lower spin. That's about it. The L4 is miles more accurate, as you'd expect for being maxed for MOI where the X Speed isn't really close to the limit. Both have that "love it or hate it" sound to them. Both are awesome if you've got the right shaft (for you) in them.

In tribute to Robopti....

OK so I bought an L4V a few years ago BECAUSE OF THIS THREAD :taunt: and really liked it but at the time the stock shaft was spinning a bit much. Back then I didn't know much about swapping shafts and such so I gave up on it. Recently I've been struggling with the driver, just no confidence at all, I ended up leaving it out of the bag alltogether most of the Summer. :russian_roulette:

So I got to thinking, "What would be the most forgiveness / enjoyment / distance for the minimum outlay?" And of all the drivers I've owned (and there's been a few) 2 stood out. The Mizuno mp600 :miz: and the Cobra L4V :idhitit: (with the Cobra obviously having the edge forgiveness wise) :beruo::beruo:

So I set up a favourite search for the same set up I had previously - 10.5 L4V F stiff. :read: It took a while but then one popped up with minimal bidding and I grabbed it for £34 :D:D When it turned up it had a regular shaft in it (but no matter - I was probably going to swap it anyway for a Matrix Ozik Stiff I have laying around - and so I did.

Well I took it out on the course today and let's just say I had this song in my head the whole way round :rap::rap::heart::heart::wub::wub:

Pete,

Gotta Love it....

I bought one for peanuts--- 10* and looking for another shaft. The VTLT tipped in the 9* is Medium flight AT BEST.... but works well for TX winds and CONCRETE fairways... Maybe a Project X Black 6.5????

Can someone recommend a cheap shaft/head/loft combo for me for an L4V? I currently swing a PING i15, 9.5, axivcore red 69 stiff, 45.75 length. I am carrying about 240 with a SS of around 100. Launch is 11 deg-ish, spin is 2800-2900. I was thinking the L4V X 9 degree with a Proforce V2. (Prefer UST shafts with the lower torque, but need a mid or mid/high launch)

Cheapest to highest ... Prob all good wink.gif

I recommend the Aldilas ... That V2 would be good though wink.gif

Hmmmm. I ordered an Aldila RIP Beta 70S and a Axivcore Tour Black 69S to reshaft the old L4V-X. Torn on which to go with.

What do you guys think is the better fit?

I'm an Aldila fan, but not the RIP so much. No feel. I'm also a UST fan and love the Axiv series. The black launches higher than I like but feels great (subjective, I know). For a heavy head, I'd go with the heavier shaft- the RIP by 6g or so (68g vs. 74g) and lower launch per each manufacturer's sites. I've got a Pype 70s in a 427 beta ti I can pull if you'd like to have it. I think it'd be a better fit than either of those unless you need a bit of help getting the ball up. I've got an 80x in my L4Vx and it's just about perfect (44" rock-crusher).

I'm a fairly high ball hitter, but since moving to FL where you get no roll no matter what I am terrified of the low launch, low spin shafts.

Guess I'll give the Beta a whirl and see what shakes out.

Thanks for the help!!

It may be a little light. Just play it shorter or tip it a bit. Remember, it's a heavy head! Good luck!

The trouble with pairing a heavy shaft with this head is you'll have to play it extremely short to find a decent SW. This is why tip stiff lighter shafts like the WB63 and Pype 60 finessed to play stiff enough were advised many times in the thread.

I had the Pype 60-X in mine for a while and it worked out really, really well. I actually pulled the shaft and went back to the one that came in it, Aldila DVS 60-S tipped an inch. The Pype is what I'm actually playing most often in the G25 head I have as well. With a head this heavy, a stiffer tip shaft is something that will benefit this the most.

I just put a PL Red Axis in X into a 9* "F" model. I had read that this is a very soft-to-flex shaft and I would agree, but it does seem to be limiting initial launch height very well for me. It sort of looks like the launch I got with a RIP Alpha 60 s, but with quite a bit more feel in the loading and unloading department. So far I would dare say it plays softer than the Alpha 60 S did.

Edit; Very unseasonable weather here today had temps close to 50* so I hit a few at the field next to my house. Flight was soaring, slightly rising, and took forever to land. I'm surprised how close this flight looks to the Alpha 60 S. Dispersion was perfectly fine, as one might imagine...

The Axis is a little less stout than the straight up PL Red. Still a good shaft. If you an put a PL Red in your F, you'll have a good time.
