Beater TEI3 Putters

I've a chance to purchase one or two - but they both seem to need a bit of work dinged up toplines, finish stripped, etc. I would send them both for complete overhaul. Assuming that overhaul is about $100 each? what is a fair price to pay for these? Seller (a local acquaintance) has offered them to me for $260 - for both, is $200 unreasonable for an offer? one is a delmar 2 and the other NP2 - both are longneck versions.

Thanks

I think 260 is fair....if they're really, really bad then they might not be worth refinishing (the NP2 has a very thin area between the top line and the top row of dots on the back...a refinish can go sideways pretty quick if it's too beat.) But if they just need a little cleanup then 130 each is acceptable. Maybe see if you could talk him down a little bit that sounds like a good deal to me. You mentioned the top line...how do the inserts look? If they have major dings or scars, that makes a big difference.

By the way, the long necks are my absolute favorites so if they are able to be salvaged, I would be all for it!

I have already sent an offer of $230, I had planned to offer $200 so thought maybe meet in the middle. Refinish with face remilling is around $150 and up, plus shipping etc. So, they won't be cheap. The NP2 appears from the photos I have to be the original style without polymer on the sides. And the top line on it seems to be ok. The Del Mar on the other hand has some dings on the topline, both front and back. The inserts seem to be ok on both. My plan will be to restore and hold them for future son in laws (but I may keep the del mar for myself - if I can get some weights added to the heel and toe.

Thanks for your comment - kind of confirms what I was thinking.

There are 4 screws located under the white dots on the corners. You'd have to remove the elastomer (siliconized caulk) first to check it out. You can remove the caulk dots without affecting the insert though so it's not a huge deal. I'd guess it's more loose epoxy rather than a screw, but I've seen crazier things.

I own many of these older tei3 s. BOS is highly reputable, but I would avoid the original black oxide finish. Go with a durable polymer instead, bos offers 4-5 colors, black, white, teal, etc. Milled face would be nice also, I have that done on few of mine, looks great. Black polymer below, milled face..

Part of the reason is cost - and part is just having one that at least appears to be original. On that note polymers how do they stand up versus say the PVD finish that others offer?

I did send an email to Norcal putters to see what they can do for me. And I assume that I won't lose too much weight if I only have the inserts milled. On that note, is there a shim/spacer that they place between the grout and the insert if one does have the face of the insert milled?

Thanks

Just a heads up. I had emailed Norcal with a few questions regarding the refinishing. While I really wanted one head to be done in PVD the cost was prohibitive (for me at this time). But they honored the weekend sale price for me on the black oxide treatment - which includes milling the face (I want both inserts milled to remove as much 'stuff' as possible). So, I have sent off both heads to them for satin black oxide treatment. The NP2 will return looking like the original (with white and gold paint fill) the Delmar will return with hot pink (I have 2 daughters) paint fill and my initials on it (kind of maybe looking a bit like the TeI3 stamp). I will be keeping this putter for sure - to give one of my daughters. Depending on how the NP2 looks I may keep it or sell it. Bottom line - this all happened because my store was not able to get me a NP T22. They were able to get me a NP2 - but for $600 I was not willing to spend that on a second choice. I have always like the original NP (LN) and the Delmar Long slant, so no issue there). And, if I keep both - post refurb I will all in at about $$460 - $140 less (not including tax and/or shipping) of the T22. If I sell the NP2 - maybe I am around $150ish for a putter that I really like - minus the weight - I may do the tungsten down the shaft - not sure yet.

Will post pics in Nov/Dec when the putters return to me.
