A couple of pick em factoids for the masses.

P3P started his first fantasy season 0-6. It looked pretty grim. This weekend he is facing off against the commish in the quarterfinals after riding a 7 game win streak.

P3P and his infinitely better half also won this weeks pick em contest to earn back the entry fee and find ourselves in 2nd place. P3P picks the easy games and she does the studying.

Shouldnt be long before the odds catch him. Last year at seasons end in the pick em we were #1 and ended up out of the money as the playoffs progressed.

Zsa Zsa Gabor was a looker back in the day and I can remember her thick Hungarian accent saying "No, no darling" She called everyone darling because she could never remember anyones names. They were not paying her to be a politician or a top notch restaurant manager. My point being is that Thursday Night game is the reason why I quit gambling. It's fun to make picks, but when you put money on those picks it becomes a battle of the mind. Your logical mind that says..."Trubisky sucks", "the Cowboys on paper look so much better than the Bears who are basically done, stick a fork in them". " The Cowboys are still playing for the division title". "Little reds job is on the line." Doesn't Jason Garrett remind you of that little kid on Family Guy? The Son? LoL. I am learning this as I go. Making picks when there is nothing to lose except a little bragging rights or pride is much different than putting your hard earned money on it unless you are confident about your process and you do it all the time. Your mind is conditioned and trained to go through a proverbial checklist of criteria and then watch as the lines fluctuate. I do not have the patience to do all of that but I like to watch some of the talk shows about what the teams are doing and the injuries that might affect the game, the basic things most people do that play pools, or do some recreational gaming. But to do this full time is another animal. You have to be a numbers guy, know which hunches usually pan out, and what trends are relevant, and pay attention to the minutia leading up to the game. And also know how to bet based on a formula. My brain has been to corrupted over the years of drugs and alcohol to deal with such precise living! I am happy to say I do not rely on such things present day though.

 

I am not trying to brag or anything like that. Because I did not make the Bears my pick here. Nor did I pick the Cowboys. I will tell you I did pick the Bears straight up in my pool I happened to win last week. Only because it makes my point about not having anything to lose a little more relevant. I wanted to take the Cowboys at first based on some of the reasons I previously stated. But when I thought about the struggles of the Cowboys lately, one thing became a little clearer, the defense has not played up to expectations, and their offensive line is struggling and relying on Prescott to find receiver not named Cooper or Cobb, Trubisky is playing better as of late, and they have one of the most underrated receivers in football, Allen Robinson. Look how he saved Blake Bortles career while he was healthy, and then got hurt and so went Bortles. I think the same might be true with Trubisky. Trubisky can be less than accurate when throwing in tight spaces with Robinson, because he can muscle his way to the ball. In December it's hard to bet against cold weather teams playing at home. So why not take a chance on the home dogs? No brainer right? But when you think about Elliott pounding the ball, Jerry Jones rallying his troops, and Prescott finding the sleeping Amari Cooper in the end zone you go I like Dallas by 7...but then I heard it..."No, no, darling"...she couldn't remember my name. And I can never remember all of those statistics and formulas. Analytics Ha! No wonder I can never win on those daily fantasy websites LoL. The first thing that popped out to me looking at those lines is Detroit is getting 14 points in a division game? Who is the QB for Detroit now? I honestly do not know. 14pts in a divisional game???

This is very tempting What the hell give me Detroit and 14. I like Cousins just like any Redskins fan who misses watching us win the easy ones and always coming up one Cousins mistake in a 4th qaurter comeback to lose against the good teams. But what the heck Detroit + 14 Merry Christmas Touch that pick is for you. I will be the Christmas Turkey for this but what the heck!

How about those Ravens! Lamar Jackson is a game change, the Micheal Jordan of the NFL. IS there anything this guy can not do? Not to mention the Ravens are the number one rushing team in the NFL.

The game is in Buffalo, it will be chilly and windy, but it is like that in Baltimore as well, not much of an advantage other than the fans are rabid up in the northern section of New York. Buffalo has been playing well lately but they have not had to deal with a very well coached all around dynamic team like the Ravens. The Bills are #5 rushing team and both QB's will take off and run with it. I can see this being more points than one might think. 15 -25mph winds should not scare the Ravens kicker so field goals may not be contested as much as one might think.

Again a little contrarian here. I will take the over 43.5 and see what happens, this could be close and points will be sporadic but in the end I think a field goal will seal the over at 44-46 points something like that. Both defenses can create short fields and both offenses can create chunk plays, my only fear is that the Ravens keep chewing clock with Ingram and Edwards, and Jackson running the ball until the Bills make them throw it.

Well what the heck give me the Bills +5.5 contrarian play again but I have learned when the media starts hyping things up the lines can get a little inflated so let's see. I love the Ravens though I think they have a real shot at the Super Bowl regardless of the outcome of this game.

Captain Kirk is just fine. Let's forget his bonehead 4th quarter disappointments back with the Skins and celebrate his success this year in purple. See he started the year as one of the headline makers. Receivers calling him out. Talking heads saying he is so far falling short of his high salary. The boy tells his whole team he will do better, and then finds the game manager qb mindset and the confidence to improve. He also has thrown ( as we knew him often to do in D.C.) a bunch of deep balls right on the hands of his talented set of WR's to extend drives.

I am happy for his turnaround and happy for him because he escaped Snyder Hell. The man was so silent and never out of place during the RG ME time, nor during his twice tagged seasons knowing the Redskins were not with him long term.
