Ping i59

Thanks for the 8 iron pics. They look very similar.

The soles are the primary difference. A little bit in blade length.

a hair more offset in the 525…. But from a top down look, could easily play any these and don’t think anyone would have an issue.

there are notable bounce spec differences on paper.

Instill think the Mizuno Pro 225 are some of the best all around distance irons ever made, but from a compete line perspective - I think this is what most OEMs aspire too….. ping killed it.

I just got my i59 combo set….. I have to tell you….. they are really nice. A little louder than I am used to, but the feel reminds me a little of my PF2 irons. they feel very solid instead of mushy soft. Not a bad feeling, just different.

Everyone comments about how tiny these things are….. they were actually big next to my apex TCB.

i have been thinking about the i230, but am going to need to hold off…. If the soles are much wider than the i59….. don’t know if I will be ok….

just chipped around with some half shots today. Can’t wait to get them out.

I also noticed the comments about the i59 being small.  I assume those folks are coming from jumbo players distance irons.  I found the i59 to be larger than my TCB’s and they seem larger than almost all my past sets including all blades, and the 716 CB.  Pretty similar size wise to the S55, which was one of my favorite gamers.

The only side by side compare I did was to my TCB’s.  I59’s have a longer blade and wider sole.  The i59 is is more forgiving for me in the 4,5,6 irons.  Short irons forgiveness same as TCB.  Lofts similar.  Distance with no wind about the same.  Into the wind, i59 are a bit shorter, I assume higher spinning for me than TCB.  Feel is where the TCB was significantly better, but to me, that is the case comparing to any other hollow irons also.  Lofts are what I am used to.  Never played a 7i stronger than 34 degrees.  At $999 these would have been competitive for PING and a lot more would have been sold.

The i59 has broke my heart

I fell in love with it when I first saw pictures and a over year later I finally bought a set to try out

shape wise, it’s everything I ever dreamed of in an iron, the short blade length, the top line, the sleekness of it all. It makes me want to cry how beautiful it is

performance wise very good too, and it’s about as forgiving of a club for that size as you can find. I’ve never seen a 4 iron that  size, to launch so well and be so easy to hit

But the feel of this iron as absolute TRASH!

Nothing even close to blueprint.  And as to anyone wondering why no one plays it on tour, I’m convinced it’s directly related to the feel

It is nothing like a forged club, don’t get me wrong I didn’t expect it to feel fully forged, because it is not, but I also didn’t expect it to feel as crappy as it did.

it feels like a springy plastic toy when you make contact. That’s honestly the best way I can describe it. I sold them immediately after that one range session. It was that bad

I’m honestly mind blown at how people say this iron feels good to them

i am beyond disappointed… I guess you really can’t have the perfect iron

I had a set. Like you said. Sleek amazing look but bigger then blueprint. Just basically looked like a bit bigger blueprint which was perfect. Feel and sound was ok but odd since it was my first ping set ever. Performance was good and the right amount of forgiveness for the size. Had my first back to back birdies with the i59 and almost 3 in a row. I changed the grips and i swear the iron became like hitting rocks and i dont know why? So i sold. Its a shame though i felt they could have been all timers possibly.

They were so damn close. I’m just hoping the next version ( if they even make cause this one flopped) fixes the feel and sounds

Regarding the sound /feel thing.  Indoors is worse, you might find it tolerable out doors.  Shaft does make a difference.  A lot of these came with the Project X LS which added to the clunky feeling.  DG 120s are fairly soft feeling shafts which change the sound /fee for the better.  Solid strikes feel ok, mishits sound “different”, but fly ok, so you might think it was a good strike that sounded like trash.  Misshit performance is pretty great for anyone who is a bit steep.  The sole / turf interaction is great.  Given they can be had cheap now, anyone looking for a good looking, forgiving head with traditional lofts and narrow soles, should give these a whirl.  (Outdoors and on turf of course). For the right player, these will work.

I had a set with Recoil SmacWraps and I really liked them.  Personally I thought they were a great feeling iron and on par with any of the many forged blades that I've played over the years.

But since my i210's I'd been going back and forth between the i59's and a couple of sets of i230's with different shafts and a friend had hit the i59's a few times and made me an offer that I couldn't refuse.

Especially since the new Blueprint S has been introduced and no way I'm not gonna have a set of those!

Nonetheless the i59 is an excellent iron that checked pretty much all the boxes in my world and is extremely forgiving.

In fact, I saw no difference in forgiveness between the i59, i210 or the i230.

To me it's just a matter of which you prefer to look at behind the ball.
