I don't have one (yet) but I'm going to get a fitting in march for a new set of irons and a hybrid/utility iron and so far my feeling is saying that it will be the Wilson Utility Iron. It's just drop dead gorgeous, and from what i have seen and heard it's as good as it's gorgeous also.

Hopefully it will get paired with a set of Wilson D7 Forged irons also

Hit a few shots with it today. Took a handful of shots at the range to get it dialled in, but then started hitting some decent shots with it. Not as easy to hit as my G410 5I by any means.

I then played a round and hit 3 shots with it, one from the tee which went 180y into a very strong headwind, but straight and a higher flight than I was expecting.

Also hit two from the fairway, into the strong wind again and they were both pretty decent without being perfect.

You have to drive through the ball to make it work, but overall I hit it hugely better than a P790 UDI that I gave up on after one range session. I think with a bit of practice it could become a useful club, it doesn’t carry as far as my 21* hybrid, but it rolls out significantly more.

I should add that conditions today were atrocious, the course is almost underwater after 3 months of solid rain, it was also two to three clubs windy today, one 7I I hit well into the wind went about 110y, usually 160y.

  • 2 weeks later...

I’ve been using this iron relatively sparingly as I’ve been having ‘left’ issues for the past couple of weeks. For some reason I’ve been hitting all my clubs nicely, but way left of where I’m aiming, especially with the short irons which is odd.

Anyway, I played today and I think I’ve worked out why this was happening, so I got the Model out on a number of occasions. Helped by the fact that after two holes I was 4 over par so I decided to use it as a practice round. Finished 10 over which included two 3-putts as well as the first two holes’ double-bogeys.

However, on the six occasions I used this club today, 5 off the tee and one off an extremely wet fairway from about 200y out. All of the tee shots went perfectly, in fact I took two shots off the tee on one hole, both ended up within about an 8y radius of each other. Very happy. The fairway shot was somewhat less impressive, just didn’t get hold of it at all. Above my feet, sodding wet and into wind. Made a mess of it.

So, based on about 25 range shots and about 20 on-course shots over the past couple of weeks, I’m pleased with this club. Needed to dial it in and I’ve found it works best when I set up with the ball a little nearer the heel of the club, the sweet-spot appears to be a bit closer to the heel than the toe than on my G410 irons. The other thing I’ve noticed, which I suspect is related to all driving irons, is that you really need to commit to the swing, if you don’t then it simply doesn’t work. With my other irons I can sometimes get away with that, with the Wilson I’m pretty sure I can’t. The fairway shot today was an example of that, didn’t feel comfortable and should really have used my hybrid on this occasion.

The only other thing of note so far is that it goes higher than I was anticipating, but then I’m quite a high hitter generally with all my clubs.

Overall, very pleased.

Just got one off rock bottom for 100 bucks. Everything stock kbs hybrid shaft x stiff.
was producing 160-165 ball speeds with it yesterday which is faster than most driving irons I have hit. Only done the range session with it so I will be curious how it works on course and if it’s only a tee shot/perfect lie club or if it gets through some of the thicker nastier lies.

I'd be interested to see how this compares to the Srixon ZX or Titleist U/T200 lineups.

I’ve never hit a Srixon, so no help there. I have a Cobra Utility 2I turned down to 16*. They feel similar, which I really like. The cobra has a hzrdus black shaft which I think I prefer to the stock Wilson.  I also have a Titleist u500 4I with the same Hzrdus black shaft - love that club.
I’ve only hit the Wilson outside a few times and it was 40 degrees. It did feel slightly less soft than the Cobra, but could have been the cold. I’ve also hit it in my garage on a Skytrak and have gotten 144-146mph ball speed out of it. So when you hit it well, it goes and feels great.
Take my opinions with a grain of salt, as I haven’t played a ton of different clubs and probably not describing them the best.
