Time to go for a driver fitting

I recently went and did my first professional fitting to purchase a set of irons. During that process I learned that I have a much faster swing speed than I thought which put some thoughts into my mind that I may be missing out on some distance with my current driver, a 915 D2 with the Rogue Silver stiff. Today I was bored and went into golf galaxy to check out the used rack, nothing caught my eye and I was really wanting to try something with en xstiff. As I was about to leave I saw a few demo clubs they had for sale. Only 1 had an x stiff, it was a 9* M5 tour with a Tensei 60 x stiff, unfortunately I didn't take note of the color. I figured the head was a bit out of my league but I'd give it a try anyways.

I hit about 5 or 6 balls and was crushing it. Carry distance averaging 281 with 116mph club head speed, and pretty straight. I didn't really care for the feel of the head but the numbers looked good, too good in fact. So I went out to my truck and grabbed my driver to see if the launch monitor was juiced. Hit 4 balls and carry average with 265. So I ask if I can print the numbers to compare, associate tells me not on the monitor I am on. I will have to move to a different monitor and repeat the test. So we do and of course I proceed to hit awful shot, one after another. We disabled the ones that were absolute mishits and here are what numbers I could salvage. While I don't know that I can take much from this info I do feel confident in 2 things. 1. I need to get fit for driver as I am for sure leaving yards on the table. 2. The tour head probably isn't for me but I'd like to see what results

GWB8EC67K825.jpga properly fit M5 could produce.

I am not sure. On my first go around I was hitting very good shots, center contact with straight to slight draw movement. When I moved over to the other hitting bay I think my swing fell apart as I was hitting hooks and slices, my swing flaw is a tendency to yank the handle down. So I wonder if I lost some speed from an inefficient swing? Honestly the most logical answer is the other monitor was juiced, I have never felt that i am a 117mph club head guy. I always thought myself to be around 100 mph, so the mid 100s you see in the picture seems more logical to me. Again, I know it looks dumb to say one thing and show another.

Those are good points. I will say that when I was hitting well that the dispersion was tighter with the M5. I realize this thread is kinda worthless based on the data shown. I just got excited about the data from prior to my swing metl down and was looking to discuss. Maybe I can get back this weekend or early next week to give it another go.

Your real SS is fine, no prob there but yes the M5 tour is too low spin. You can benefit from the regular M5 or M6 /SIM SIM Max whatever, 915 was a very slow driver. I know titleist fanboys will holler but their drivers spin a ton and have NO POP. TM Cally, Cobra usually will have the best ball speed and spin reduction attributes.

Well I am not brand loyal and to be honest the main reason i game the 915 D2 is because a friend gave it to me for free. What I have decided to do is schedule a fitting with the shop that did my irons, main reason I went to galaxy was I can just step into the bay and hit clubs freely.

I will update the thread with some real numbers afterwards.

I don't think GC Quad measures actual swing speed. If you see in the screenshot, it assumes a Smash factor of 1.45 for driver, so it then calculates clubhead speed based on ballspeed and assumed smash factor. So if you make poor contact with one, then it will show a lower clubhead speed. That is my understanding.

As someone said above the club head speed is not being measured on that launch monitor. Based on the numbers in that screenshot the first monitor you were on had VERY juiced numbers.

Looks like your average ball speed is in the low to mid 150s which means you are swinging somewhere around 105mph.

With optimal launch you should expect to carry it 250-260 with that swing speed. Do NOT expect 280 carry like the first monitor claimed.

The numbers you posted are not “better” with the m5. You were massively offline with it and, as another post mentioned, spun waaaay to little.

GCQuad definitely measures clubhead speed if you have that markers on the face.
