SM8s, thoughts?

I got a set of 3 new ones to try to kick my SM7s and ended up only transitioning to a new 60 because grooves were worn. Something about the SM7 felt a little better to me in the 52/56. Maybe just used to them. I will continue to get fresh 60 degrees in the SM8 probably but going to ride this SM7 wave for the lower lofts as long as I can

I have no digging issues with the D grind, plenty of bounce and has been automatic out of bunkers for me thus far. D grind has been a huge upgrade for me in the 60 degree spot.

Sorry I meant M grind, i got the 58/08M and its digging more than my callaway but all around less spin

That makes sense, the m grind for me is great off firm turf and sand, but much less forgiveness on the soft stuff. The D grind for me offers the versatility of the M grind with significant added forgiveness due to the higher bounce

I have the SM8 58M and I'm very very impressed. I think it's my favorite wedge I've ever played. I had an M grind a few years back and never really got along with it (tended to dig a bit too much) but this one has almost a preworn leading edge and then the rest of the normal M grind. It's very subtle but I find it helps a ton.

 

I'd also say that the launch has come down and spin is very easy to control for me. I like it so much that I'm thinking about replacing my 50 and 54 SM7s with the 8s.

In case anyone was curious, I ordered SM8 52F08 and 58D12 last Thursday from my titleist Thursday fitting. I got a shipment notification saying estimated delivery Friday this week.

Standard shaft, no stamping, only change was different golf pride grips. Seems that they’re working through backlog pretty quick if you don’t have many customizations.

Ok 2 rounds in 52F 58/8M

It took me 1 session around green to dial in shot heights an open face shots, still less spin than my MD5 but the grind is so good you can open and hit any shot. Full shots are much better flight and ability to flight, super nice consistency for yardages. My only complaint really versus the Calloways is the lack of spin around the green vs my MD5s.

Ordered 5/18, expected delivery on 6/15, 3 SM8’s with custom stamping and paint, they must be running through orders pretty quick
