My Game Improvement Experiment is starting!!

I guess maybe gapping for slower swings are different... my eight iron is 38 degrees and I hit it 170ish... having my pitching wedge go that far would lead to some not fun problems.

obviously, titliest has some sort of plan doing this, just not the right fit for me.

Those are the T400 clubs, and you don't want to go there. They come with very light shafts, and are designed for high launch. Basically a club for an old man who is height and distance challenged.

I'm a long time AP1 (712) player and am toying with the idea of trying the T300. What worries me is that the T300 7-iron has the same loft as my AP1 6-iron. I generally play a blended set with some AP2 short irons. It would be more difficult to blend T300 with the AP2's.

I see this as a move in the right direction LOL. Eventually the 'pitching wedge' will be 22 degrees or so and all of the clubs will have lofts stamped on them which would be a better system imho. Instead of saying I hit a wedge there you would say I hit my 22.

Of course the current system of selling separate sets of wedges and irons is rather lucrative for the OEMs so clubs named by loft may never happen. It does seem that the end of the loft jacking has to be in sight which would make it more difficult for OEMs to sell 'a seven iron that goes as far as your current 5 iron'. Don't know where this will end...

When the day comes for me to replace my I3's, I will probably just go with PING's again because I can get them in "retro loft". My regular group still can't wrap their heads around why I blow it past them 30 yards off the tee, but they take less club into a par 3. I just always tell them something like "I hit the 8 iron, but I use old clubs".

I really like the look of the T100, but the need for 2 "gap" wedges is throwing me off.

To the OP, there is no shame in trying some game improvement stuff. Give it a try. I hope you find your answer.

It's no better or worse than your G400 setup where the "6-iron" is 26.5 degrees. A 6-iron was 31 degrees or higher not too long ago. Tiger's 5-iron and Adam Scott's 680 5-iron have more loft than that. The idea that "it's acceptable to play a set where lofts are jacked 1 - 1.5 clubs" whereas anything more than that is equivalent to "a sin" is just dump. Pretend the W2 = old PW, W = old 9-iron, PW = old 8-iron, and keep going until you have the lowest lofted iron you need (which will be 24-30 degrees for most mortals).

If someone wants to complain about the loft gaps in some of these sets (5-6 degrees in the shorter clubs and < 3 degrees in the lower lofted clubs) I will agree with that. But bickering about the club label is stupid, especially when a G400/G410 is jacked up too (and these sets, especially the G410, are deemed as great clubs).

The 38* "pitching wedge" is still stronger than the 9 iron in the G400s while the PW in the G400s is more than a quarter club weaker than the "W" in the Titleist set. Frankly, it doesn't matter to me as I'll never play them, but I still believe that to call something a pitching wedge and have it be closer to an 8 iron is, in fact, ridiculous...

My 6 iron (26.5* @ 37 7/8") is a 5 iron and I know that just like the 50* UW (@ 35.5") is the same as my EYE2 PW from 1982. A 38* pitching wedge isn't a wedge at all. That's false advertising. Now, this is the last I'll comment on this as I don't really care enough to continue bantering about it. I stand by my original statement...

These are what I would consider 'correct' lofts and I think pretty close to Bobby Jones original lofts for numbered irons:

Sand wedge 56'

Pitching wedge 52'

9 iron 48'

8 iron 44'

7 iron 40'

6 iron 36'

5 iron 32'

4 iron 28'

3 iron 24'

2 iron 20'

1 iron 17'

My first set of irons were at about these lofts with the longest club being the 3 iron. Anything stronger is 'loft jacked'. Those lofts make perfect sense do they not? LOL of course with such a set I would no longer be flying my 7 iron 155 yards...

i no longer tell anyone what number of club I play because it’s not about me hitting a higher number club by them. It’s about the yardage and gapping. So I say my 155 club or whatever. Too many people get hung up on the club numbers and hitting it a 8 instead of a 7 . We ought to be about the gaps between clubs . 10 to 15 yards or whatever range floats your personal boat. My preference 10 to 12.

This rant not aimed at anyone just the rambling of a no talent lefty.

"I'm not very good at golf I'll admit it. I don't practice ever. Life is very busy. Got down to a 3 HC but hover around 4-5. Shoot mostly mid to high 70s"

You are very good at golf, you're just not great or professional grade. Just enjoy it and strive for improvement. Golf is hard.

Correct lofts??? Not sure there is such a thing anymore. It’s golf not the 10 commandments.

I have a set of hickory shaft irons with those lofts - Tad Moore Victors. They are just about 2 clubs weaker than what i consider standard modern lofts:

PW 46*

9-iron 42*

8-iron 38*

7-iron 34*

6-iron 30*

5-iron 27*

4-iron 24*

Or basically your recent AP2 - T100 lofts.
