He didn't quite stand up to Herbert in the end. Played a great game but came up short. Herbert is a special QB and I am glad I picked him up in fantasy, I dumped Wentz and now have Herbert, D Watson.  The nice thing for Mariota is that Gruden is working with him to make better decisions and that could lead to a fat contract soon if he keeps maturing as a Pro Qb

When I picked it was only because the line moved and it would have hit I almost sure if Mariota didn't come in and move and run so much creating extended production even with that, the regulation score was under and a field goal would have kept it under. That said I needed that last touchdown by Herbert and those rushing yards in OT from Brandon Jacobs to win some bets and prop my team up against a guy who was playing Darren Waller who went off again for massive point production

I think if Rodgers wins out he can do it. His connection to D Adams is cosmic! And he uses all of his receivers without the stud pass catching tight ends that Mahomes and Brady have had the luxury of having

I am so tired of QBs winning the MVP.  It is a sign of a declining league that few others get consideration.  Maybe they get nominated, but it is just a show football is the "ultimate" team game.

The rules so favor the QBs the all-time greats are seeing three seasons of passing stats passed in a season or season and a half.  Bring back the days when defense was considered.  I am plugging my vote for someone who runs into someone else as hard as they can for a living.  Since I don't watch football, I don't have any names, but I just like the idea of it.

Nothing exemplifies the sport like lining some guy up with the hopes of running through them, and the QB doesn't do that.  QBs and PKs should be exempt for consideration.  Though, QBs do often have a guy trying to run through them and there is no way heck I would want to be standing still and have a 300 pound guy inflict the violence upon me that these guy endure... though they do get paid handsomely.

If he gets one or two more 200 yards rushing games I think Derrick Henry has to be in the mix with Rodgers and Mahomes. 

He isn't on the defensive side of the ball but he fits P3P's description above

I am all for an MVP candidate on the defensive side of the ball. Oh and P3P. PK for MVP? The penalty kill unit always deserves the Conn Smythe not that terrible plug defensemen in New Jersey. 😂

.............as I said earlier that something in last night's telecast of the Raiders brought back a very fond memory from my Vegas days.

 

So as a few of you know I worked on the Strip in Vegas in a high end restaurant. I was there over a decade from the opening day. That establishment was surrounded by a brand new mega casino. Heck this corner gambling metropolis even had it's own roller coaster.

Anyway I took care of numerous famous people. 

Ordinary fall Friday Night. Front section by the live lobster tank. One of the small booths was getting seated with two males. One was mid twenties and the other 60 ish. The glamour girl in "the looK" little dress handed me the guest name slip. Oh I didn't need that little paper name slip one bit. Nope, as soon as I got close enough to see the two gentlemen's faces I knew it was him. I was filled with a joyous rush. I had liked the older guy on tv since way back to middle school. ( as you can tell by my work on these threads I'm a big mouth, an extrovert, and semi professional comedian 😁 ) I had to deliver a wowzer opening line,  that was a must. I stepped back and pondered what I was to begin with. It came to me rather quickly. Yes it was his opening line as the NFL TODAY came on the air on CBS. I walked up to his and his sons booth and layed on them this with a firm, clear, and loud delivery.

What a pleasure Mr. Musburger it is to have you. I have been enjoying your NFL work on television forever. Gents Brent was an outgoing warm welcoming guy. He was a solid golf geek, he was an avid sports bettor, and overall pleasant man. He came to Vegas with his son a few times a year to golf all day and hit the sportsbooks for drinks and wager on football and other sports at night. We had many enjoyable conversations during his visits. He loved to talk about how is it best to play (course management) the numerous courses in Vegas. I can talk golf with ease. lol  I was fortunate to play all the nice tracks frequently so could comment. I wanted him to flash back to the NFL Today part of his career. I told him to introduce Phyllis , Irv, and Jimmy the Greek to me. I wanted to talk about all the old cement donut stadiums from the 70's NFL. I asked many questions about my St. Louis NFL Cardinals team. He had seen it all. I was a fan early in life and was now even more so after gabbing in person 30 + years later. He just loved to gamble on and watch football. Mr. Musburger told me that when he retired in a few years he was going to move to Vegas and open a sports betting service. He has indeed done just that. And at age 81 he is also the radio voice of the Las Vegas Raiders. See last night Joe Buck was saying there is the great Brent Musburger as the camera showed the man behind his microphone. It is that image that gave me a big warm smile and then thought maybe a few of the knuckleheads on our thread might like my story? Yup, Mr. Musburger was one of my favorite semi regulars.

 

81 years old and still calling some games.

Changing my pick.

No mo New Orleans for commish. 

I learned today that Michael Thomas has been ruled out for the Saints. I am not having any of that.

So..........I see a let down spot for the Bills this week. They have won some big games of late. It is Josh Allen's first trip to Mile High land. Broncos defense is top 10 in passing td's allowed, top 10 in passing yds per game allowed, and sacks. Drew Luck the last couple of weeks has somewhat calmed down. I think the Bills do get the win but fail to cover the abundant 6 1/2 point line. 

I also liked the Dolphins this week and the WFT. I backed off the WFT pick when it was announced yesterday that Haskins would be the starting qb.

So I change my 3rd pick of the week to 

 

                                     Denver + 6 1/2 

 

 

Kick up them boots girl and get those Broncos to snag me the winning pick
