I would be happy with some Avocado Toast on whole grain fresh baked bread! 

But in the old days when my liver and arteries ran pure like an Arcadian Spring, I would opt for the Crab Benedict or the traditional Eggs Benedict before the trek to DC to see the Redskins play at their Mecca, RFK Stadium. When the BP/Cholesterol go up and you get the hypertension and prediabetes designation before you hit 60, I had to tweak the diet. Working in the restaurant biz certainly contributed to that.  

No more dairy, no more runny egg yolks...i miss that.  But not really, you get used to not eating rich animal protein laden foods if you become committed to getting healthier so you are not in and out of doctors offices as you age.  Much rather be picking football games than suffering through a regimen of cardiologists prescriptions and stent procedures

I still plan on taking some cash out of the Commish's pocket on the links someday soon.  I get two strokes on the par 5's LoL 

 

When we made wings at one of the restaurants I worked for, the chef was from Buffalo and it was always Franks hot sauce with little shards of butter in the metal mixing bowl with a pool of franks hot sauce, as the hot wings hit the bowl they were tossed and the butter would help glaze them to a nice orangish-red sheen. Homemade blue cheese dressing and celery were the garnish.  No breading, before they hit the fryer, and meaty drums and wings were the making of a classic Buffalo wing with no better version.  

I loved some sriracha wings but still can't match the classic.

I was real close to taking the Rams tonight. I checked the line and it fell from my Tuesday line of -6 to currently - 4 1/2.

I got gun shy . I do feel though L.A. will win by 7 or more. I was asked to hit happy hour for a pop by a very good friend. We got to breaking down tonight's game over some Cadillac Margarita's ( Cointreau of course). Wearing masks and staying 15 feet away from the few other patrons in a downtown Asheville bar. I listened and my smart NFL betting friend told me of the play. UNDR.  Cam will be able to do very little and probably account for only 13-14 points.

It too is Sean McVay's payback chance against the GOAT coach that kept him from winning the Lombardi trophy he added. What weapons does Cam have to assist him in snagging td's?

Will Cam rise up for the bright lights of Prime Time in L.A.? It too is possible that he has more than one turnover. That Rams defense will force Cam to make mistakes I think. The Rams have enough offense to score against any team, even a Bill B. coached one. This is a solid test to see how good the Patriots can be.

 I see the defenses making it very hard for the offenses to have numerous sustained "move the chains" drives. Field goal kickers will be heavily counted on.

 I am feeling pretty good about my pick.

Lately, I have noticed some new trends. 

1. Defense stille reigns supreme in the NFL. Combine that with savvy veteran play at QB and respect for the running game and you can win on any Sunday.

The WFT proved that theory by going on a little mini winning streak pummeling Dallas on Thanksgiving and pounding the Steelers in the second half of the first game on Monday night Football.  

2 The stud QB's Mahomes, Jackson, Watson, even Aaron Rodgers would be sporting even more ring bling if they had better coaching on defense. I am going out on a limb and say Mahomes will not be in the Super Bowl this year.  I think the hottest healthiest team will be in there at the end.  This season is going to wear down those that have no depth. LeVeon Bell is a shell of his former self and I don't know if the rookie is enough to sustain them in the cold weather when Mahomes will have to be flushed out and throw on the run. He did it last year, but can he do it again when the best defenses in the AFC will convene in a Super Heroes Hall and discuss the fiendish escape artist and try and develop a plan to stop this crazy super villain. Will Andy Reid have enough soldiers on defense to stop Big Ben and his arsenal of weapons including a healthier James Conner. Or the cunning New England defense as they make a dash for a wild card spot? Maybe those Browns who suddenly became a force on the defensive and offensive lines as Chubb and Hunt become a menacing run arsenal. Don't discount the Brownies as my horrible picks record against them show, I discounted them often and got burned.  This could be the year of coaches, running backs, and defensive and offensive lines.  

Stay tuned I think the playoff might yield some unexpected results. But then again maybe not.  LoL

3. "DoctorO why don't you put your money where your mouth is?" Wellllll.. Ok  I am going to go against the my own prediction and I changed the pick on my pool to New England from Rams, and I will also take the 6 points. I don't like betting against Belichick and his improving defense even if the Rams also have a stout defense. I think there will be three turnovers in this game but the one in the 4th quarter will be a game changer and that will be a Goff interception. Cam will fumble but early in the game. He's been pretty good lately with the ball. Like the old saying goes "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger."  Pats+6 and the Under 44.5  Unprecedented on a Thursday!  "the Good Doctor just wrote two prescriptions!"  "Pass the whiskey and a couple of Jaeger Bombs"

I am looking at the lines now. I am going to select my 3rd pick here shortly. I have been liking / analyzing 5 games in particular and need to narrow it down to The One. Of the Qqq selections one I feel is an excellent choice. I hope if I do select that one it brings us both a W.   The hot picks train in ready to fire it's weekly third pick.

Ok here is what I got. 

Miami +7 1/2  The Dolphins have the best against the spread record in the NFL. 9-3 of late. That is red hot. I think KC pulls out the win but fails to cover. I won't take the Fins though.

 

NY Giants + 2 1/2    This was my first solid pick of the week. Now everyone is on the Giants big time. I lead not follow. 😄  I see the G Men winning this outright. No cred again for the Red. I am not picking it now though due to the popularity.

 

Cleveland +1   For no other reason than I feel the Browns' magic continues. It will be easier because they are home in the Pound.

 

The Steelers opened as an one and half point favorite. The line in this game has swung a great distance in the other direction this week and is currently as high as Bills - 2 1/2 in some places tonight in Vegas. This is the most popular pick of the week with the betting public. I like the Buffalo Bills a great deal and have for years. I was a big fan of Jim Kelly, Bruce Smith, and Andre Reed. Josh Allen has proven already he is a NFL stud qb. I surely don't see Pittsburgh getting their running game whole in one weeks time. They will again have to rely too heavily on Big Ben. Buffalo wins this one by 3.  It too though is not my pick.

 

I believe that solid teams that get humiliated badly one week do bounce back soundly the next. Just that happened to the Titans last week. My lord that was a bloody gag. As Q said in his pick's post, and I am in agreement, it won't happen this week. Tennessee like Buffalo and the Rams are tuning up for the playoffs. The Jaguars have the worst defense in the NFL. So let me get this right, King Henry against the league's worst defense? oh ok.   Titans easily win by 10 or more. So that is my 3rd pick for week 14.

The fire extinguisher didn't work. Commish is still on fire after walking out of the stats office. After making his way out of the office the commish has now created separation from everyone. Now boarding a train to Jacksonville, comish looks to go 3-0 with the Titans as the gravy train departs Los Angeles for another W. But what commish doesn't know is that someone is always looking to dethrone the king. So who will be the turkey that boards the gravy train? Who will make the epic chase down for the crown? Why not the greenemachine? Well here are 3 picks that will shut down a teen clothing store and close the GAP. 

 

On the way back from Los Angeles the gravy train stops in Chi-town where we find the Houston Texans taking on the Chicago Bears. It has been a very weird season for the Houston Texans. Seeing their best receiver traded before the season even began, firing their General Manager and Head Coach Bill O'Brien, all while playing some respectable football. Sure the defense has some problems and the offensive line still can't block but that's why you have Deshaun Watson. Right? Well yes and no. Yes because the dude is a freakish athlete who is intelligent enough to read coverages to not solely depend on his legs and move the sticks. No. When he does have the right play called and the right read on the defense who else will make the play when the defense is giving him more attention than a fifteen year old Mexican girl at her quinceanera? It was Will Fuller but Roger Goodell has sidelined him for the rest of the year with a 6 game ban for substance abuse. So then who, if not Fuller? Good question. So far no one has entered the batters box because no one has yet to step up to the plate in Fullers absence. Brandin Cooks would be the likely option but even he has looked like Mother Goose dropping a goose egg in the touchdown column . The yards for the most part have been there for Cooks but you won't win many games with just yards and no touchdowns , especially considering the Texans receiving core.The Texans wideout room looks like it went on a diet over the offseason because the are slim at the position. With only four other unproven receivers in their first or second year, Deshaun Watson has very few weapons on the outside.  Keke Coutee will continue to step up providing Watson with a viable second option on the outside, lessing the sole focus on just Watson. On the mirroring sideline is another enigma in the Chicago Bears. Starting out winning five of six, Chicago looked to recapture some 2018 magic. Instead they, like the Steelers wideouts last week, have dropped six straight. The quarterback play for the Bears has been a revolving door of disappointment. Starting with Mitchell Trubisky to begin the season only to get bench to Mr. Backup  Nick Foles in a poor performance against the Falcons. Foles who looked good the next 2 games, dropped a competitive one to the Colts, followed by a strong win against the Tompa Bay Buccaneers. An injury and poor play has allowed Trubisky to regain control of the quarterback position. Giving credit where credit is due the Bears have been in all but a couple of their games in their six game losing streak but just like bears on Wall Street the Chicago Bears are headed in the wrong direction. The inconsistent play on offense has been an achilles heel ever since the Trubisky's magic of ' 18 wore off. This further burdened an already middle of the road defense is an old family recipe for L's. Coupled that with the fact that Deshaun Watson has a 110.0 passer rating this season is the highest by a QB with a sub .500 record sees the Texans boarding the gravy train back to H-Town. 

 

Chicago like their hotdogs is just short of something and just like that something they will never be able to ketchup to the Texans.

 

Houston -2

 

 

After dropping the Texans off, the next destination for the gravy train is a game being played in the City of Brotherly Love. The Philadelphia Cry Baby Shegals match up against the New Orleans Saints. Having not lost since September the New Orleans Saints are Tabasco sauce hot. Nine straight wins, 3 of them without their future hall of fame quarterback Drew Brees, has the Saints marching into the playoffs. Taysom Hill has done a sufficient job filling in for Brees, finding the endzone with both legs and arm, to the surprise of many. Sean Payton more than enough deserves credit for not only believing in but also developing Taysom Hill from a gadget player to a manageable quarterback, further insuring the Saints win streak stays in tact while Brees is sidelined. Even with the offense looking different with Hill under center they really haven't missed a beat. Alvin Kamara needs to be in the MVP conversation if he isn't already. The man is putting up ridiculous numbers both on the ground and in the passing game providing a nice constant for the offense. Michael Thomas has also not missed a beat in the absence of Drew Brees, in fact Hill has targeted Thomas the most since making the start. But the real story of the Saints success is their defense. Entering Sunday they bost the best overall defense in the league limiting opposing offenses to under 100 yards on the ground and under 17 points in five straight games. The Shegals being the complete opposite to the Saints, have lost four straight and benched their "franchise quarterback" Carson Wentz to poor performance. Having posted the lowest QBR this season Wentz and the Eagles look lost on the dance  floor, showing no rhythm on offense or defense. But what about Jalen Hurts he was able to score and put up some numbers against the Packers? Sure, but how does a 66.2 QBR with 8 hurries, 4 sacks and 1 interception against a mediocre defense sound? Hurts is not the answer in Philly. Rebuilding the offensive line is the answer. Wentz was pressured and sacked the most thus far in the season because of 3 main factors. 1. The offensive line looks like the new kid in the school lunch line letting everyone through allowing all defenses to beat and bruise your "franchise QB". This causes Wentz to try and overcompensate for the lack of O-line he has. Hanging onto the ball way longer than he needs to, missing open reads and ultimately taking the sack even when time was given to pass. 2. The mind games being played on Wentz because he has taken more shots then the town drunk on a bender has caused him to force things that don't need to be forced. Instead of checking it down, he will throw a pick or take a sack. Instead of throwing the ball away to play another down or to stay within field goal range. He will try to force it to the endzone into tight coverage or take a sack outside of field goal range . Instead of going through his reads he will birdog a receiver resulting in a pick, an incompletion, missed open receiver , or a fumble by trying to do too much with his legs. 3. Everyone has been hurt. This is not an excuse but merely some insight to reality for the young QB. Quarterbacks and receivers have a certain amount of chemistry they accrue through years of practice working together. This doesn't happen when one or the other and sometimes both are hurt. This  however has happened for Wentz who hasn't had a stable receiving core since entering the league. Matters are not better for Hurts who is going to be under derest from the ball hungry New Orleans defense. Rookie quarterbacks are 3-16 all time when pitted against New Orleans D. A wise man once said "defense wins championships" and Philly surely doesn't have one. Saints board the gravy train back to the Big Easy.

 

When the Saints go marching in, Philadelphia Wentz and it Hurts. Cry Eagles Cry.
