Grip weight - why don't all grip manufacturers and resellers state it?

So frustrating.

I'm not a club fitter, just a hobbyist that sometimes builds and regrips clubs, like many on here.

I want to know what the grip weight is of what grips that I buy (amongst other specs). Not much to ask and surely just what should be expected for every grip manufacturer to outline their specs. I wish to experiment with different grips and the lack of weight info from some manufacturers makes this difficult - to their sales detriment. Do I have to waste money buying grips to find out they aren't suitable for what I want?

Some companies state them (Golf Pride, Lamkin, thank you, nice and professional from the market leaders), others don't for all their grips (Tacki-Mac, I'm looking at you but you're not alone).

Thoughtless, rude, time-wasting. Would take a single employee just a few hours to put this info on a company's website and save dudes like me lots of hours.

Does anyone have links to some of the secondary company's grip specs?

Rant over - apologies.

  • Rapidcat changed the title to Grip weight - why don't all grip manufacturers and resellers state it?

i agree, weight is a important spec for grips as it is for all other club components, but what do you really look for?

If its lower priced option than Golfpride and Lamkin, but still good grips with weight specs?

AVON is rather low priced vs the 2 mentioned, their grip options is limited, but still good.
As example the PRO DX2 model "looks like" Golf Pride New Decade Multicompound, and you find it with and without cord on the upper half.

But what are you really looking for? size and weight wanted

One thing that I've learnt from you Howard and some of the other skilled fitters on here is to not try and trick the swingweight scale, I'm focusing on feel.

But to be more expansive, I am using my Covid lockdown to experiment with different SIZE grips to see what impact they will have on my swing (somewhat Bryson inspired, also I will create a thread about my experiences in a few months) but want to understand each individual grip's weight before purchase, install and play. I don't want to install a bunch of extra weight at the grip end if I go above standard grip size so need to know grip weights. I don't think that I should have to buy grips to find out they are outside the weight I am wanting.

It is very simple - if a buy a grip, I want to know the weight and surely every grip manufacturer and reseller should publish the grip's weight but they all don't.

I don't want to post on here seeking an individual grip's weight (or buy one and waste my $), just Mr. Manufacturer/Reseller, detail the grip's weights so I can select as I want to. How long have your websites been in existence - surely 20 years is enough time to get it right?

I don't understand why a grip manufacturer doesn't reveal their grip weights, it's either slack or purposely evasive. It's simply not good enough.

I don’t know what other brands you may be referring to but every Tacki Mac model listed on Golfworks has the weight listed. I looked at a few other brands, Gripmaster, Avon, and they all have weights listed

Callaway Rogue ST Max 10.5°/Xcaliber SL 45 a flex,Callaway Rogue ST Max Heavenwood/Xcaliber FW a flex, Maltby KE4 ST-H 3h/Rapid Taper a flex, Maltby KE4 ST-H 4h/Rapid Taper a flex, Maltby KE4 Tour TC 5h/Rapid Taper a flex, Maltby KE4 Tour+ 6-G/Xcaliber Rapid Taper a flex, Maltby Max Milled 54° & 58°/Xcaliber Wedge 85 r flex, Mizuno Bettinardi C06

Thanks everyone for your input.

Being in Australia, I have focused on local to me suppliers plus the grip manufacturers (I have have looked at maybe 30 websites) but on now looking at Golfworks after the suggestion here I can see grip weight information is listed, which is what I am after. Wish I had looked at them before now, don't know why I didn't.

Looks like I will check out Golfworks for supply of some items in the future, notwithstanding the covid related extended international shipping times we are living with 'Down Under'.

Don't know if they ship to Australia however but all the info you need should be there.  Good luck.  My experience is most all grips of comparable size are within a couple grams of each other so tend to have minimal impact on swingweight and playability.  So for me the weight is secondary to the size and feel of the grip.

I got a 13 pack of Golf Pride MCC with a spec weight of 46 grams.

9 of 13 weighed in at that 46g spec.

2 weighed 47

1 weighed 49

1 weighed in a 50g

QC on "made in China" is dubious, as expected.
