Kids Golf Clubs

All 3 of my kids used US Kids (ultralight, then tour series) until they had club speed to hit with adult heads.  They make a fantastic product and take the trouble and hassle out of shopping for junior golf clubs.

The only thing missing is a thriving used/second-hand market for US Kids clubs, esp for those on a very tight budget.

eBay, Play-it-Again and the USKG Outlet do an OK job of filling the second-hand void

My oldest girl started with US Kids ultralights to Flynn Altos, to US Kids Tour series, and now she is currently using a set of Ping Prodi G irons that’s just sent in to be extended to its max lengths.  The US kids ultralights are fine a starter clubs and a lot better and lighter than the top flite stuff.  The TS3 weren’t bad for the money but the pings are superior in build and quality, not even close, and Ping are very good with letting us reshaft everything include lie and shaft flex adjustments including the putter and a separate driver we even purchased previously.  The US kids heads get beat up pretty easily while the ping heads still look relatively good even after two years.  We’ve been user a Cobra F9 head with flynn shafts from early on.  She still hits it well,  better than the matched Ping driver.  Her next set will be a ladies lightweight set.

I’m seriously considering Ping ProdiG line as the next set. One question I have is its configuration of longer clubs.

TS3 has 5i, 4H and 3W. And ProdiG only has 5H and 5W. I don’t think having one less longer club is an issue, esp. my kid is not trusting hitting some of these longer clubs now.

Nevertheless, in the event of needing another longer club to fit the gap, I guess I’ll have to go OEM route?

I'm also considering the Ping ProdiG as the mid-step transition set of irons from USKG TS3 on the way to adult heads.

It's no fun when the rabbit's got the gun.

I’d call and check the head weights on the ProdiG line. I think they’re fairly light, somewhere between TS3-51 and 54.

Well, my kid turns 11 next month and is 90lbs and 58.5" tall. His 9-iron carry is 85 yards. I think he needs to stay in some light(er) clubs. We'll see as I have him setup for some lessons to get some professional eyeballs on his swing.

If USKG is anything to go by, your kid will be moving on to TS3-60 soon. Those are supposedly only 5% lighter than adult clubs. Anyway, good luck and keep us posted.

My son uses prodi-g and has liked them a lot. He recently shot up a bunch (9yr old, 58"), so planning to send them to ping to get adjusted but we needed something to play with while the clubs are getting fixed, so got a set of TS3 57s. So having used them for a few days, here are my thoughts:

1. Prodi-g's is the gap between FW and Driver (22* to whatever driver you are using) but for the most part that can be filled by having an 18* 5 woods. Ping doesn't have a 60* wedge either.

2. I don't know the static weight of the clubs but the TS3's do feel a touch more heavy as I think the swingweight is likely higher

3. Ping FW and hybrid I think are much better but my son seems to like the TS3 irons a bit more. The one thing is that the TS3's do feel like they have slightly lesser offset, so it took a while to get the face angle square at impact.

4. The pings have been super durable, only had to change the grip out on a couple of wedges but other than that solid. haven't used TS3's long enough.

Does anyone know if the Ping adjustments when you send them in includes increasing clubhead weight as well?

I thought the same initially but found that to be an non-issue. The Hybrid basically is my daughter's default club for any long distances over 150. She had a Ping matching wood that she hit well and that distance wise was a perfect compliment to the 5H, but she cannot hit that now.  We also have a Cobra F9 3W that she has had for several years that we keep reshafting with Flynn Shafts that she has basically grown up with and that she hit very well.

Same dilemma, daughter keeps shooting up in height so that last set of US Kids clubs lasted six months. I ended up just buying her a 6, 7, 9 and PW TS3 54" set which she used as a stop gap until the Ping's worked for her. Now that she is up to the 57" set of the TS3, we looked into TS3 57" but we found the opposite when we stopped by my fitter at Club Champion who was nice enough to do a free "off the book" fitting for my daughter. We found the flex and weight of the TS3  to be less stiff and lighter than the comparable Ping shaft.  The Ping was alot more balanced.  Interestingly because my daughter until recently was always on the shorter side, she is more comfortable now and hits better when using a longer club and choking down. Apparently Brooke Henderson and a few other LPGA golfers do the same. When we took the longest Ping shaft they had paired it with her same current head, she was hitting the ball 10 yards further and 5mph higher ball speed!  Meanwhile her swing coach kept going on about how the Ping clubs were too long and heavy for her.  We sent the clubs in, Ping is awesome- they are adjusting the shaft lengths, lie from 1 degree flat back to standard and is including an older Ping driver and her putter as well even though we didn't purchase them together.

Highly recommend them.  Since you can reshaft twice, they are less expensive overall then the initial cash outlay would lead you to believe but note that the max length they provide before assuming an unlimited length change.  Most kids around 11-12 will already be approaching the max length.  I weighed the Ping 7 iron vs. the TS3 54" set 7 Iron and the Ping was 5-6 grams heavier, so I would guess that the Ping 7 iron (in standard length, we just sent in to get extended 1 1/2") would be very similar to the TS3 57" 7 Iron

For anyone who cares, Ping is out of Prodi G. You need to go to a brick and mortar shop or golf course to order. In other words, you can’t order Prodi G directly via web. I was told wait time is 3 weeks.

Re-shafting them is also a ~4 week turn around.  No bueno.

Jesus. When I called in late Nov, Ping customer service said it'd take 1 week to reshaft excluding shipping time.

Now, I really need to think twice about getting Ping ProdiG.

from Ping this morning:

"once we receive the clubs in our repair department it is about 3-5 days in house and then we will send them back to you.  However, if there is a delay in any of the components it could take longer"

so including shipping on either side, ~ 3 weeks minimum.

Ah okay. Then, it is consistent with what Ping told me in Nov since they did not factor in shipping time. I might have to do overnight or 2-day shipping. Not ideal, but it is what it is.

For whatever its worth, I sent my sons ping prodi-g clubs on 1/6 (Thur), Ping received 1/10 (Monday), They shipped back 1/14 (Friday), received 1/17. So under 2 weeks including shipping. the clubs come back looking almost brand new, overall cleaned up very well, painted the line in the bottom of the face etc. Overall, much faster than I anticipated.
