Any new $2-3k simulator coming in 2021?

@From_Parts_Unknown do you have any source for that info?  I tried searching and couldn't find anything anywhere.

For what it’s worth, I’ve heard something similar. I didn’t hear the quad comparison but was told it’s a much better version of skytrak. You won’t find anything online about it because distributors and retailers are still under NDA. I guess time will tell.

From Full Swing (quoting from the other forum):

ball speed, club head speed, club path, club face, face to target, ball direction, apex, smash factor, launch angle, attack angle, carry distance, total distance, side total, side carry, spin, spin axis

Club data for that price would be huge.

I can tell you Garmin is definitely looking into a camera based system similar to SkyTrak as well.  Instead of using an expensive high speed camera.  Their system would use two much less expensive "low speed" cameras timed to take sequential photos to replicate a high speed system.

Interesting.  I read through the patent. It looks like they're going to use machine learning to "watch" the swing and the precisely time when the low speed cameras will take pictures. It also looks like they are going to try and use a microphone to help the system as well.

Looks like the patent also is looking at adding a third camera to capture the ball on the club face...

When I read this it seems like a whoooole lot of software development to get away with cheap hardware. My interpretation is that the system will measure very little and extrapolate very much.

It’s looks as though Garmin could go either way based on their patent. A system with 2 low speed cameras and timed by a microphone would be cheap and ball data could be just as accurate as skytrak’s or a GC2.  Or they could go 5 cameras with radar timing and club analysis.

Trying to be optimistic, the best thing going for a Garmin product is they don’t  have a flagship product they would want to protect.

Flightscope’s Mevo+ is probably the best value for money technology wise.  It’s just unfortunate it’s full potential is locked as to protect the X3.  Full Swings Kit may force them to unlock club data though.

For an optical solution, I don't see anything being much cheaper than the Skytrak, if it was cheaper. Reading through the Garmin patent, they claim the need for 1000fps, which is probably a safe number. 150mph ball is ~220 ft/s, 200mph ball is ~293 ft/s, and 12,000 rpm spin is 200 rev/s. You'll probably want more than 2 captures to give quite a bit of wiggle room - you won't get the exact, exact moment of impact with those numbers - and you'll want to measure more than the 200 rev/s to avoid matching shutter speed with the ball spin. Single, "retail" camera for computer vision at 226fps is ~$335 (https://www.flir.com/products/blackfly-s-usb3/?model=BFS-U3-16S2C-CS), but that'd go down for bulk and even more for supplying a manufacturer, I'm sure. But, when you factor in three cameras, additional hardware to both drive general operation as well as timing the equipment, a mix of software development and R&D, and markups for profit for both Garmin and retail sellers, I'd guess it would be like the Skytrak at cheapest. Then the conversation on software licenses, etc.

The thing that they'd really have to get down is timing the cameras and knowing those timings well. That timing will be the basis for the calculations and appears to be a known problem in stereo systems for computer vision - which I am not super familiar with, just a casual Reddit reader at this point. I don't doubt that they can do it but that'll be the main problem to address with a setup like this. But, I'd be very interested in seeing what they make.

Second this - stinks that they have the data and just refuse to show it.

It has gone disconcertingly quiet on the full swing kit front. They didn’t show anything at the PGA show and there has been no communication to folks who paid the $100 deposit 4-5 months ago. I will be stunned if they deliver anything this summer as claimed (April round the corner, and no reviews, no updates, no leaked rumors or sightings - not a good sign)

At least one sighting... Found in another thread.

Personally, I'm pumped for this to come out. And hopefully followed up with a review or two from some early adopters. Sighting or not, I'm thinking fall is when it gets done. But who knows!

This was posted a couple of months ago on the golf simulator forum - I’ve given up checking in on it (others have reached out and got the same marketing spiel from FS, and nothing useful).  Anything in 2021 would be a pleasant surprise, and I’m not asking for my $100 back from them yet.

Interested in this product but there is no way I would give them $100. Price would be the same when it came out (if it ever does) and no way of knowing whether it is any good. This could die before ever being released and if they are desperate for that 100 dollars because they need the cash that is big trouble. I guess losing 100 isn't the end of the world but why take a chance?

Looks like the Garmin R10 is better than I expected.  Here's my source.

There is one YouTube video review so far and it makes me want it. I’m hoping a few more come out and they compare it to the others. $599 seems to be a steal for what it can do. I told my wife seems almost to good for the price.
