"Dummy" Putter Headcovers

I never leave my bag out of my sight. I never leave it at a bag drop either. 

 

Some years ago I parked beside a guy. I pulled out my Md Terps bag and he pulls out his Tar Heels bag. We had a little conversation while putting our shoes on. He and his buddy dropped their bags at the bag drop and I carried mine down to the widow by the check in counter. When I came out after paying I watched a pickup pull up to the bag drop and grab the Tar Heel bag and another bag and take off. I was able to get a partial tag and description of the truck. Stopping at the clubhouse after nine I was told they caught the guys out on a highway. The guy telling me this said they had been doing it for awhile at the course but no one ever noticed them doing it.

 

I sport the original covers and I also sport my after market stuff. Recently I bought some after market headcovers I have on my woods, hybrids and putter. And I shouldn't say this but I have iron covers on my irons. 

 

Interesting that this topic came up. Yesterday when I played I sat my bag by the door while I checked in. There was a guy sitting at an outside table waiting for his friends. When I came out he said I was thinking you must have some expensive clubs hiding under all those covers or you wouldn't be hiding them. I said nothing special I just like to take care of my stuff.

Fortunately, all my woods and putters came without headcovers which means my hand was forced to buy OEM or aftermarket.  I chose aftermarket because there's no reason for me to advertise to thieves...

After having my high-end sik putter stolen, I no longer will take any clubs worth anything anywhere. High end stuff is saved for tournaments. If I need to take nice stuff to practice, it’s 1 club at a time.

When we go on our semi-annual golf trips I leave all of my good stuff at home.

Being smart is the first step in prevention. I've used alternate covers (mainly Cool Clubs) on my 009 for the past decade or so after losing a Lime Hula Cover that was never recovered. I guess the thief didn't have room to stash the putter (THANK GOD). Anyway, I know a lot of guys like to show off their Circle T and Bee Hive covers for the world to see. I get you're proud of it but eventually you're going to advertise to the wrong person(s). Kinda like wearing a Rolex El Presidente in Tijuana...

I wouldn't mind having a plain AM&E magnetic putter cover.  I use my Byron Morgan putter cover. I have not played with anyone that knew who Byron Morgan is, except for the 2014 Sand Ridge Golf outing (PutterTalk members and Byron Morgan himself).

Gotta a Newport Select underneath my WGC FedEx St Jude Invitational cover. Reppin my local golf tournament.

 

Also use a University of Memphis cover during football/ basketball season
