2021 PXG 0211 irons

I just played my first round with these today. Started off with crappy balls and 35 degree temps so the first few holes they felt hard. As the temp warmed up and my swing came smoother they really came alive. On smooth swings where I made good contact they felt great and were longer than my Cobras.

At the turn I switched to my normal balls and the feeling dramatically improved. Even my playing partners commented about how good they sounded.

Good results for the first round of the year in NY with crappy temps at the start. Will do some more testing against my old gamers and will make updates.

I’m not a pro so for me my strike affects the gapping probably more than anything else if I’m honest.

For today’s round I’d use my PW or GW then maybe just need to chip with my 58 onto the green.

For me knowing that I had the distance didn’t make me swing to hard which resulted in a better overall shot. At times I’d overswing or muscle it thinking I needed and extra 5 yards and most times hit a crappy shot. Today I just swung easy and had no issues.

These are longer than my cobras, obvi due to the stronger lofts. What I did notice was that when I was in a distance between two clubs I’d stay with the lower club an wasn’t coming up as short. I did fly a few over the green but just by a bit, just required a chip shot on.

I know this is a silly question, but I just got my set of the 2021 0211s and there is an additional graphic on the back of the iron “DualCOR” - which wasn’t on any of the review pics or videos.  Anyone else notice it on their set?

DualCor is lasered on mine too.  PXG told me that is their latest designation for the second generation 0211 because people were confusing the first version vs. the second vs the 0211 ST.  That is the marketing name of their dual compound goo in the 0311 Gen 3 and now the 0211 Second generation.

Yep, $60 shipping and 11 days to arrive due to a 1 day delay by FedEx.  I’m not thrilled about the shipping cost.  But having had a set of clubs lost by USPS and another destroyed by UPS, I’ll pay the extra gladly to know they arrive as they should.

I'm really interested in the ST version.  A triple forged blade for that price is crazy!

Really good feel and great forgiveness.  To me they feel a little firmer than Mizuno MP20, softer than Mizuno MP18, but powerful like the MP18.

I have the 0211 DualCOR and 0211 ST.  My head says DualCOR but man, the heart screams ST.

Seriously, they are softer feeling than what I expected and more forgiving than any blade I’ve ever hit.

I think they are a little larger than I expected but they get through the turf really well.

Happy to post pics if you want them and can put them next to Callaway Apex 19 of Taylormade 770 (I may or may not have three sets competing against each other - lol).

These things are weighing in me. Currently play g410 with dg105s. Picked up the gen1 0211 with 80 gram graphite TGI shaft in a trade. At a fitting day, I had better numbers with gen2 0211 than either my g410 with both gen2 and g410 better than the gen1 0211 in graphite.

The gen2 had the Elevate 95s in them.

Yes. There was a gapping issue. Because I ordered 2 degree strong, the gap between the 9i and my Vokey W was significant. So I ordered their W, 2 strong. Was leery with that too, but am very please with it. Performs as well as the Vokey. I am now replacing my current (50, 56 & 60) Vokeys with (46, 52 & 58) to address the gaps.

My wedge setup is exactly like yours, except I went 2* strong with the 0211 GW. Vokey 52f and 58m

The rest of the set is 5,6 standard, 7-pw 1* strong with MMT 70 shafts.
I got a $115 credit when they lowered the price and used it to buy the set SW and LW both 2* strong (52& 58). They’re good, but I wish I’d gone with a 7 wood instead. That would have been fun to goof around with...

How do you find the gapping so far? The set goes from 2* gaps to 6* between W and G. Is that a problem or does the gapping work well?

I think a lot of you guys overthink it when it comes to gapping within the set. Wouldn’t you trust the person who designed the set knows enough to make sure they gap well?

where my concern comes in is with the hybrids. For example, the 0211 5 iron is 21*, and the 5 hybrid is 25*. The hybrid was either designed for the forged model, or would have to be magical. I just can’t see how a hybrid can replace an iron that is 4* stronger.... maybe I’m wrong, but no way I’m spending the $$$$ to find out.

My 18 & 20 hybrids are gapping fine, and I have a 23 if I want to ditch the 5i down the road.

As much as I like the PXGs I think I may be selling them. A friend is selling his 0311s and I can’t turn them down.

If anyone wants a “new” set of 5-GW 2021’s PM me!! They’re gonna be listed shortly.

After one round?

What exactly are you looking to get from a set of irons? I’m the last guy to knock someone for being a club ho, but but you have to know there isn’t a set out there that is going to transform your game...

Good luck with the 0311’s I guess.... 🙄

After reading the reviews and watching reviews on Youtube, I decided to pull the trigger. I'm coming from P790's, anyone out there that have come from the 790's to the 0211's?

Yes, I went OG 790’s to the OG 0211’s. Best decision. Much better in all aspects, especially distance control. Made a big difference for me. You might the right call.

I’m interested in these after trying the first gen model. However ive read that the spin is quite low and these may have a hard time holding greens. Wondering if anyone has played these and can offer advice?? I’m currently playing cobra forged tec irons.

I played them for a while.  They have no spin issues at all, they spin consistently with their loft.  You’re likely reading the anti-loft jacking threads which apply to ALL lower lofted irons, not just pxg 0211’s.

Unless you are playing super firm greens running 12 all year, you’ll have no problems.

They are wide.  That’s why I left them, they are really something between a players iron and a game forgiveness profile IMO.  I think they are slightly too big and have a little too much offset.

I took my 0211's out for their maiden voyage today. The first hole is a par 5 and I hit the 4 iron for my second shot, just to see what it would do. Truly impressed from the first swing. Contact felt great, trajectory was high but penetrating and this was the result of a swing where my only thought was "smooth" because we had no warm up.

While I didn't have my "A" game today, the round was about familiarizing myself with the clubs. Even though my swing wasn't what it can be, the 0211's are a club longer than my old forged players cavity backs on a normal day. Frankly, even loft for loft they're a bit longer.

One big change is that on mishits, these 0211's really made a difference and distance loss was not near as penal as with my old irons. Through the set, the irons all are excellent. The 4 iron truly surprised me. I have hit quite a few and none ever gave me better results than my old one. That is, until today. the 0211 is LONG, straight and flights where ever I want it. Fairway finder, green finder from trouble and forgave a very "heavy" tee shot and still ended up going 180 in the fairway.

As for spin, I hit the PW  to a pin 127 yards into a green that is notoriously hard to hold. The trajectory was my normal full swing wedge flight which can be pretty high. The ball landed near pin high, hopped and settled down about 12' behind the pin. I can be a higher spin player, but this particular result green established for sure, these irons will hit shots that hold greens. For what it's worth, I was playing a Bridgestone RX which is a lower spin ball.

These showed up today. Ordered 8 days ago by phone. Got the 8 thru SW as that is kinda like starting at 7i. Sadly I tore up my left shoulder swimming on Saturday so no full swings yet. Oddly I can swing but trying to lift my left arm/elbow up (like doing a freestyle swing stroke) is excruciating. I did take the GW and SW out to chip around and compare the SW (54) to my current S18 (55). Shafts are MMT 80g stiff but soft-stepped once. I wanted a bit more weight than the regular flex (which is 70g) but am moving to a bit more flex in my shafts due to miles on the odometer (mine, not the clubs).

I can say the SW (54*) felt really quite good chipping. I was able to open it up and get a bit of a flop, or just line it up and chip. The GW also felt good, and at 48* would be something I would use around the green - as is an 8i (for chip and run). Looking forward to giving these a full swing soon, maybe by the weekend. I also show the 8i next to the ZX5 7i as they are similar loft. The Srixon is 1/4" long as that is my typical spec.

Had my fitting yesterday. Right now I’m (still) playing Titleist 735cm from 2007 with Rifle Flighted 5.5 shafts.  Warmed up with the 6i and was hitting it my normal 160yds. It’s lofted at 31deg so definitely very weak compared to today’s lofts which I knew going in. In fact, the 0211 7i is my 735cm 5i loft.

I hit the 0211 and the 0211ST with Elevate Tour stiff, Elevate 95 stiff and the MMT 80g Stiff.  I had the best numbers with the 95 and MMT. The Tour slowed my swing speed down about 3mph.  I had left elbow surgery two years ago, hurt my back on deployment, and just turned 40, so the fact that the numbers were within 1mph for me on the MMT vs the 95 made it a no brainer to switch to graphite. I also didn’t perceive a real weight difference between the two.

The interesting thing to me was the ball speed difference between the 735 and the 0211.  I literally picked up 12mph of ball speed. It was crazy.  My miss is always on the toe side so we worked on what would be best for me for that.

Ended up I’m ordering the 5-GW with MMT 80g Stiff.  Even with a bit of a toe strike my numbers after an hour and a half on the one shot I took a pic of still were 89mph club speed, 115 ball speed, 6100 spin, 16.6 launch angle, 158 carry and 167 total distance. Sure I had some with 170 carry at the beginning but the fact I only lost 10yds after hundreds of swings made me happy.

Can’t wait to get them out on the course!

He also helped me dial in the Proto X+ since I didn’t do an in person fitting for it due to covid. Got my hook straightened out and I hit 9 fairways instead of my usual 2-3.
