Mid handicapper MB/blade choice????

Recommended Posts

I have an opportunity to acquire some blades for very cheap. I'm a mid handicapper, and understand the consequences of playing something that is less forgiving. deciding between all these for the same price... PING blueprint, Titleist 630MB, Mizuno MP-20 HMB, KING forged MB, Taylormade P7 MB, Wilson Staff Blade. I like the PING blueprint look wise/ from what I have read. Opinions???

Probably the most forgiving out there at the moment would be the Srixon Z Forged.

Mizuno MP20 and W/S tour blade next in line.

The secret is find the magic source, the combination of right head, grip and shaft and suddenly you can play anything

I've only hit these in simulators at stores, so I don't have real world experience.  But my impression was that the Blueprint was the most user friendly of the bunch.  But I was a little annoyed by the weight plug in the toe.  If I could get any of those for the same price it would be a tough choice between the 620 and MP20.  I think I would end up with the MP20.   It has a more appealing look at address in my opinion.

The New Level 623-m is supposed to be very forgiving, and it’s cheaper new, than many of the aforementioned clubs are used.

They sell 623-M heads only (component) on their website. The heads are a .370 bore, so if you are getting shaft pulls from a .355, you will need to shim.

If you fit into their stock shaft options, (which they have a few) you could get them as low as $660. Custom shaft prices go up in price.

If you are not sure what you are wanting, I’d recommend the new PXG 0211 ST.  They are “Ping Like” in their shape and relatively inexpensive at $129/club.  I have found them to be very forgiving.  I’ve mostly used Mizuno MP4, MP18, MP20.  The ST isn’t as soft as the 4 or 20 (1025 vs. 8620 carbon steel).  But they are very similar to the MP18 in feel but with a slightly longer head length and better in forgiveness.

This may not be true for everyone... but for me personally I’ve always played better with blades or muscle backs compared to anything that has a thick bottom and cavity. You might struggle at first, but if you’re a decent player you should figure out how to hit them solid. I always got sloppy with contact when not using blades. Huge mizuno fan and can’t recommend them enough (no up charge custom options and just so pure)

620 MB, nicest blades on the market right now, at least from the big manufactures (NCW if money is no object). Sole design (pre-worn leading edge) is amazing, feel is amazing, look is amazing. You can't go wrong with them.

Not all CBs are thick. P7MC for example is a blade. It just happens to have some cavity milled out of it. Same for 921 and 919 tour.

Pretty hard not to be impressed with the looks of the Blueprints, Ping's best looking iron in my opinion.  Great feel for a non 1020 true forged iron. The club repair fellow I use wanted no part of adjusting the lie angles on the Blueprints, he seems to like sending any Pings out to Ping. Well with a bit of prodding he reluctantly gave it a go, he could not believe how soft and easy they were to adjust. He said they were easier to bend than my Stenson Legacy Blacks and my Epon 302's. I watched him do it and fully agreed with the lack of effort it took to bend them. As other's have said they are one of the more forgiving blades, sold my Mizuno MP5's, and numerous other sets.

I have also admired PXG gen 3 T's as well, reading Plugged n G---'s review and reply to questions on the Blueprints and the Gen 3 T's, had me wanting the T's even more. Matt was playing both sets last year, says the T's are more forgiving. The T's are obviously not a true blade, but they sure look like one from address. As a mid capper having the look with a touch of help can't be a bad thing.

I'm going to be testing out my BP's against my new to me T's come spring.

Best of luck in your search.
