Graphite Design Tour Ad Xc Reviews please.....

Recommended Posts

Hello guys, intrigued  by the GD AD XC, sold my ping G400LST to a friend and i'm experimenting with a G410LST head. I've found success with L/L Shafts like the Aldila Rogue Silver, Xtorsion Black and UST Elements.

Wonder if the XC in 6-X plays true to flex or a little softer, my days with TX are over as father time is undefeated. Really want to try the GD shafts and the Xc may be the one.

SS is about 107-109 in launch monitor.

Thanks for your input on the XC.

Works well in bringing down the flight of a spinny head. I had it in a PING 410 Plus.

I've only used the stiff, but I didn't find it too stout but quite smooth.

From you experience, which Shaft in the GD lineup plays closer to the Aldila Rogue Silver or even the UST Elements Chrome ? Thanks

I’ve never played the chrome or the anything but the original silver for a short time and that was many shafts ago.  I would guess the bb is probably going to be the closest but it’s hard to say.

Most of the Graphite Design lineup has a similar profile to Diamana blue profiles.  That equates best with Aldila Tour Blue and Rogue White.

Rogue Silver (and Tour Green before it) have a mid-shaft bump in stiffness, similar to Diamana white profiles.

So you would be looking for Graphite Design models that are stiffer in the mid.  BB, GP and XC come to mind.

True to flex, def low/low.  It launches slightly higher than the M9003.  Spin about the same.  It's not rebar, but pretty tip stiff and a little harder to load IMO compared to their other shafts in their line up minus the M9003.

I moved from an AD-BB 6x to an AD-XC 6tx.  Not a perfect comparison but the AD-XC is great.  The feel is not as smooth as the BB but it is not in any way bad feeling. Just doesn't have as much of a kick feel as the BB.  It launches a slightly lower and with less a lot less spin for me.  For me, the BB did not like to really be swung hard.  It rewarded good tempo and a smoother swing.  With the XC, I feel like I can go after it a bit more without hitting a high one that has too much spin.

I don't change shafts a ton and have not hit nearly as many as most on here but to me it reminds me of the motore speeder 6.2 non-TS (the blackish purple one with silver by the handle) with a little smoother feel and a little more spin reduction.  It's not a full on low-low shaft to me but it's also not a mid launch shaft either.  It's kind of in between.

I don't see myself changing anytime soon.

Do you find the XC 6X to be a true X or more like in between flex or softer to flex, like other GD shafts ?

Just picked up a XC 6TX and hit it at the range (note that it was straight into 20 mph winds) and found it quite true to flex, if not a tiny bit softer than I had expected. I'm coming from a Motore X F3, so one could say I'm used to butt-soft shafts. Flight was nice, not too loo and couldn't judge spin to be more or less than the Motore. Will check again tomorrow when the wind isn't nearly as gusting. I was hitting it about 30 yards shorter than usual with both shafts due to the wind...

I have one in a G410 Plus, and absolutely love it.  6X.  First driver shaft I've played sub 70 grams, ever.  Plays true to flex, and the combo has worked great for me.  I used to play lower spinning heads with mid/high launch shafts, but I've found this formula to be much more forgiving for my swing. Started off with an Evenflow Black in this head, and the XC blew it away.

I just got fitted for this shaft in a Sim2 head.  Im currently gaming the rogue silver 130 in a 400max and I would say the feel and stiffness are very similar in the 60g stiff that I was comparing....I wish I could comment on spin but the taylormade guys only had the rogue silver 110 which is not the same and spun way more...Before getting the ad xc I am probably going to have my club guy swap out my ping tip for a tm tip and give that combo a go once my sim arrives and I will reach back out.

I was blind fitted into the XC 6TX by my club guy coming off an Even Flow White T1100 6.0 (which I hit pretty good).  He quickly narrowed down on some profiles in different models and the XC won out. I picked up some yards, less spin, better flight, etc. A few weeks go by and I notice its a TX and ask him how that came to be as a match. He said that the profile of the shaft is what fit me the best and that the shaft weight was the final determination in fine tuning the ball flight. Since he is a friend of mine, he said that is why he prefers the blind fittings because I would have had bias in what I thought would fit me and he removed those. Then he told me that I couldn't argue with the results and not to believe that all stated flexes play the same to all swings. I am what I consider S to borderline X so the TX would never had been on my radar (that is why we get fit).

So if you ask me the TX is not harsh or boardy, but it is tip stiff and stable. I can smooth it or jump on one and it is very consistent. I don't see it leaving the bag anytime soon!

Anyone hit the tour ad di vs the xc and think the di felt stiffer?

I felt as though the XC was smoother which is probably a result of the softer handle but I wouldn't necessarily say that the DI felt stiffer overall.

Currently playing di 6x in a dark speed max head which this combo I find to be a little on the higher spin scale. I don’t mind the di but I think it lacks feel. I get along with butt soft shafts that launch lower so definitely thinking about trying the xc.

I think I posted this directly to you in another thread but if the XC doesn't work out for you there's other options to try if you're willing to look outside GD.  Within GD there's the VF which is what I have.  A little firmer in the handle yet it's still really smooth.  In the MCA family, there's the 1K Pro Orange which feels smooth that has a very similar profile to the XC but it's slightly counterbalanced.  Diamana PD and Kai'li White are also similar profile but it's not quite as smooth and harder to turnover than the 1K Pro Orange.

Check out the GD Lovers thread...yeah its long, but lots of comments from good peeps like @phizzy30 in there along with other GD models. Third Time's on a never ending quest to find the perfect GD shaft combo 🙂

I would not worry too much about flex per se if going GD...you need to get the feels right. they are very stable high quality, and materials do vary a tad and at that speed you could be an S or X depending on model and weight.

Yea I remember your posts. I’m not GD crazed I don’t neeed to play gd but it just sounds like it fits the bill of feeling like an x100 driver shaft with the softer handle. I’m just trying to bring down the spin on the darkspeed max head slightly
