Scotty shaft band issue

Hey guys,

 

got a 2021 phantom the week of their release as an order through my pro shop. It’s my first Scotty and my first time spending so much on a putter, but It’s been fantastic and has been worth the investment. 

With that being said, I have had an issue with the shaft band where they write the custom specs.  After my first round with the putter, one of the numbers on the length somehow smeared. No big deal. Now, however, the entire sticker is illegible. 

I am VERY anal about my clubs, and even switched out of my 14 way bag to avoid excess friction in the band. I never touch the band at all. I haven’t laid the putter on the ground. 
It looks like they write the numbers in silver sharpie- is there any way to have avoided this issue?
 

My pro shop contacted Acushnet and was basically told sorry- it happens and we can’t replace the band. They can take a return, but can’t guarantee the new band won’t do the same, and I won’t send  it back as I am getting great results with it.  Just a bit discouraging considering the premium I paid for the putter, and I’ve only used it for 3 weeks. I know it’s just cosmetic, but it’s disappointing.

Do you know the original specs? As you know the writing is just silver sharpie. You should be able to wipe it gently with acetone to clean and then re-write said specs with a silver sharpie if you wanted. Or you could just clean it and leave it be. If you really wanted to protect that then throw a later of packing tape over it.

You might have to do the return, and once you get the new one, take some UV resistant packing tape and cut to shape with a scalpel and cover the band the best you can to prevent smudging on the new one. If the first one did it, good chance the second will as well without some preventative measures.

If you really want it to not happen then I guess go ahead and go through the process of returning it during which you'll be several weeks or more (depending on how backlogged SC is right now) without a putter. You can then do what the others said and custom cut some packing tape to put over it. However, if you do that you'll have to hope you never have to replace the tape because I'm sure peeling it off will take the sharpie ink with it. Seems a bit silly to me to go through all that trouble just over a sticker. 

 

BTW it's a bit ironic that you're upset over something that happened to a sticker that literally says "MADE TO PLAY" on it while you were playing...

Lol. More just wondering if others have experienced the same issue, and if so what they do to prevent it from happening knowing it can occur.  Definitely won’t be sending the putter back.

I have the same issue with my wedges. Every time I hit them they get marked up.

That would bother me as well, great suggestions from members here. I would definitely wipe off what I could with acetone, and rewrite it. Then get tape and put over the sticker.

The guy who does club work for me smeared mineral spirits all over mine  when he reinstalled the grip and it ruined that same sticker. Not just the silver sharpie but the sticker got all effed up. I called Titleist and they just mailed me a sticker to replace it. 
 

fast forward a full season of use and the sharpie smeared from going in and out of the bag. I just hit it with magic eraser and wrote the specs back on.
