ZX 7 irons, what AW?

In general, what is optimum may change for your swing speed, etc.  Here is one thing I found:

Across your irons, the descent angle will naturally be steeper for short irons and shallower for long irons.  Mainly this is because the peak height will be more or less constant or drop as you go up in irons than the distance, which naturally will shallow out the descent angle. 

 

Generally, you can get a steep decent angle by increasing launch at constant spin, increasing spin at constant launch, or increasing spin and launch.

This is for the driver, but conceptually will be similar to an iron.  But with an iron you probably aren't solely trying to optimize distance

I love the matching gw/aw for a set as it is a mostly full swing club. I also find it really easy to do some bump and run/chips with the non bladed gap wedge. Unfortunately srixon does not have an aw in lefty tho. So for the lefties we need to find something else. I found an apex pro 19 with a raw finish that is a perfect compliment. Not the same brand as the irons, but went ahead and got  couple callaway full toe wedges to round out the set. Now it looks great!

Got the ZX5s, and as a lefty it despises me that Srixon chooses to NOT make an AW in their lines.  I seriously have zero clue as to the reason why not.  If you can make the other irons, why not the AW?  Instead I get to go hunt for a similar 50 degree wedge.  

 

Seriously, someone give me a real reason for this.

If it’s a full swing club, you answered your own question. Grab the ZX7 AW and don’t worry about it another second! I wouldn’t put a specialty wedge in unless you planned on taking those delicate 1/2 or 3/4 swings, the one bounce and stop, or other hard shots around the green. The ZX7 AW looks good and will be better for a full swing than most speciality wedges. 
 

I play a 50* SM7 with my ZX7s, but I also use my 50* between 5-130 yards depending on the shot.

Got a question for the zx7 guys. 
I just bought a set of ZX7 irons 3-PW. 
How many wedges would you guys recommend for proper gapping? Could I get away with a 52 and 58 or would I be better off going with 50-54-58. I don’t care either way so whatever you have found is best will work for me. Appreciate any opinions.

50/54/58 for me.

 

I currently have the ZX7 AW bent to 50 degrees. I fall in and out of love with it. Probably more to do with that type of club rather than the brand. It’s been working for me lately on full shots, I don’t think it’s the best for chipping and pitching.

I’m also not a fan of the shape. I think they made it the way they did so it transitions well to the Cleveland wedges, but I don’t use those.

 

I have a specialist gap wedge on order so will see how that goes.  I use Callaway Jaws wedges. I find the shape and size matches the ZX7 nicely.
